Air Asia Bigger Than Big 10th Anniversary Sale

315

Air Asia is having a mega big sale starting tomorrow.

Whether it's any good or not; we'll have to wait and see.

Apparently there will be 10c fares up for grabs with no fuel surcharge. I'm guessing these will only apply to domestic routes but who knows.

Book from 23 (12pm GMT+8) to 29 May 2010.
Travel from 6 February to 20 June 2012.

Better start making plans for next year.

Mod: Edited year to 2012

    • there isnt any use with patience and w/o luck (or maybe good internet) . While selecting my seats, this popped up several times:

Sorry, an error has occurred. Please try again. If the error persists, please contact our call center and inform us of this problem.

      which is killing me.

      • +1

I have a damn good internet connection, the ability to switch proxies as i see fit… and no luck. I consider this no different than "We're giving away free cars world wide*"

        • 2 cars given away world wide, 17 year old model…
        • There arn't any point in this situation that you could help yourself with proxies. The site is being hammered. Even if you were in the same datacentre (I'm assuming AIMS in Malaysia), you still wouldn't be able to get in.

These servers are not on-demand/cloud-like. Probably a static amount of resources.

  • got melb-london, just cant get back :(

  • +1

    Promo (SGN - KUL)
    ≈6.88 USD2 Guest @ ≈3.44 USD
    ≈55.72 USDAirport Tax and Fees

Taxes are killing these great promos…

    • KL - Perth 341 MYR ~~(150 AUD)
Total price inc tax ~~ 469 MYR (Exclude the baggage fee)

      still a little expensive

      one way

Got the ticket total of 544 MYR 1 way. which is not really a bargain but still worth it

  • -1

Don't neg the deal, there are thousands of global bargainers fighting to get a cheap deal, ive gotten right to the end a couple of times and had it crashed, but I eventually got Melb-London for $500, that's cheap and well worth the battle

    • Im almost at the payment option for that type of trip too…..waiting - time out waiting…time out….GRRR!

      Crosses fingers

      • Nope….failed GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  • +2

    waste of time this site!!!!!

  • +2

    this site is just helpless.

  • where are 10 cents fares?

    • +1

Found heaps. Are still available except can't get to next option without timing out

  • Anyone succeeded to book a flight yet? to any international destination from MEL, or even to anywhere?

    • +1

I got to the paypal page, then error.

  • +4

This is a huge waste of time.

  • -2

I'd like to say a big thankyou to everyone who gave up trying, I'm sure it would have been tougher to get my second return trip to Bali without you.

The second return trip was $254 inc all fees. I could have gotten another $175 return, but I thought the extra $79 was worth it since it was over the Easter holidays and I'm sure not having to take an extra two days off of work will easily make up for it.

I'll think of you guys when I'm with a few friends in a private pool, and raise a longneck to your sacrifice.

And yes - I got every error described here multiple times, including getting to the Paypal step and falling short before that completed. Patience and perseverance, it works.

    • Thank you, Mr Smug.

      • -2

Hey little buddy! No trouble, I can hold ozbargainers hands any time they need a little lesson on patience. Seriously, it's no trouble.

  • Got my Per-KL return leg booked (End of April - Mid May).
Now to decide between Seoul or Tokyo…

This should be properly named as "AirAsia Lottery Sale".

It is like playing a lottery. You play, and you get close, and you lose. Try again. Lose again. But keep trying. Some 'lucky' people go through!. Others waste their time chasing the dream.

    Welcome to the lottery.

  • Their site is being hammered badly.

On a different note, Airasia is a point to point service so don't expect your baggage to be tagged all the way to your destination.

If you have no visa's in Singapore/Malaysia, then you'll most likely want to travel without check-ins. You'll have to clear customs to get out pick up your bag and then recheck-in your bags.

    • +1

No u will find they offer check thru service now when going through KL.
Last time i was able to check direct to Bkk from perth via KL.

      • Oh ok, didn't know that. I had a massive argument with the Airasia staff whilst trying to transit via Singapore.

But I'm sure they don't do inter-line baggage uplift then.

  • Do the baggage charges decrease (per person) when there are more people travelling together?

    • No, but you can get the maximum luggage for one person and get no luggage for another, and get them to pack together. They're also fairly forgiving on the carry on baggage, I've gone several kilos over with a bag that's probably too large dimension wise and they've just let it through.

      • Passengers in the same party share luggage allowance. It is better value (per kg) to buy a lower allowance for each passenger than concentrate the luggage allowance on a single passenger.

You can bring as many items/bags as you like, the allowance is a weight.

        • Thanks for the heads up!

      • The staff are fairly lenient to premium seat customers. I ran out of rupees coming back from India and was 3kg over yet the staff waved it through. Note: The scale read 1.2kg after I took my bag off. Very sneaky.

  • Was looking for flights for next June for our winter sojourn in Thailand. Gold Coast to Phuket promo price was $266, regular price was $280. Totally underwhelmed so decided to hold off for the time being - maybe they will have another 20% off sale like they did earlier this year. Our total (2 people) costs for this year's return trip, including luggage, meals and seat selection is about $780 - this current promo pales by comparison.

  • FYI - $800.00 return Perth to London

I've used AA twice in the last couple of years and had some really good deals, but this one looks good on the surface but as soon as you start adding taxes and fuel levies the price soars……I'll keep waiting for an all in fare sale.

      • That prices includes taxes and fuel surchages. Doesn't include luggage and meals.

        • Not when I tried booking, KL-Tianjin-KL went from 250MYR to 485MYR without adding luggage etc
I know this is still cheap but it is almost double the advertised fare

        • That's odd, every single fare I've ever booked through the AA website included all taxes on the first bump. Are you sure you aren't seeing the price of the first leg and the total journey? Did you look at the cost breakdown?

      • +1

Your completely correct. Been getting the 0.10 and $10 fares. Add about 80 bucks for most places with the taxes bleh

    • +1

fares outbound from oz does include tax but outbound from kl does not.

  • ERROR
    [5006:ExecuteDataReader]
    [10004:OpenDatabaseConnection]
    [5022:InvalidOperationException]

Those three errors in duplicate while trying to book a normal airfare with AirAsia. Seriously, it's not worth the hassle AA.

  • The whining and negs in this thread are pathetic. You expect 5 star service when they're practically giving flights away? Get a grip.

    • Why do you think they are giving flights away? Maybe this is a fair price. They are one of the most profitable airlines in the world.

    • Whining? The site doesn't work. It's the only way to buy an air fare from Air Asia.

It's now 1am here and 11pm in Malaysia, yet I still can't book an air fare to London. Errors galore when I try to select my flights. So, I happily paid almost double the price and went with Qantas. Luggage, meals, and frequent flyer points included. And a web site that works.

  • Aren't these flights supposed to be without fuel surcharge?

Come to think of it didn't AA abolish all fuel surcharges? They are back?

    • back since 1st May 2011.

  • +1

This website experience makes me never want to fly Air Asia again.

Same situation as the last time they had these sales.

    • I was trying to book for Melbourne -> Singapore (via KL)

Note: Luggage is being charged for each section. 15 kg is $19, 20kg is $25 or something. 30kg is $52
Then there are charges for meals around $7 to KL, and $3.50 back to Melbourne.

Taxes are included in the listed prices. But with that extra charge for luggage, for each section, it can add up a bit.

  • I guess it's about priorities - different for different people..some people have lots of time to have the patience to get what they want with AA…other people may not have the time, but may have the dollars instead.
I have s[pent hours on AA website at times to get the fares that I want - being flexible and incredibly patient (and also being able to let go if I cannot get what I want helps). I have been overseas several times in the past 3 years - only because of AA's prices. (and my patience). On one of my trips - thinking that Malaysia was just a place I ought to have a look at seeing as how I had to stop off, on the way to somewhere else - I met my partner! How about that for a good deal! heh :) MishyMoo thinks that Airasia rocks

    • after 1 and a half hours of booking 1 of 5 planned AA flights:

      "Reservation status : Confirmed"

the satisfaction of a 10 baht trip is good… so good

  • Today morning at 9:15 I booked 4 tickets from Mumbai to Melbourne and Return with 20Kg each all together just 1550AUD….. and no wait at all it was superfast…..Too Happy….

  • Despite what I said yesterday I have just booked my outward bound flights to Phuket. Here's the interesting bit - by purchasing separate flights Gold Coast to KL, KL to Phuket I saved $50 a head compared to their fly-thru price Gold Coast to Phuket. I know I now have to go through immigration and cart bags around but hey when you have a 5 hour layover you need something to pass the time.
Also the waiting room isn't as crowded this morning.

  • I have booked Mel-kl-lodon for $1100 Return (all inclusive meal, inflight, comfetkit all the way and back and credit card fee)

Flying out on 2nd April and departing London on 29th April 2012

    Thanks to OzBargain And OP.

Tip:I had the same problem of crashing or displaying error…all i did is keep clicking on back button..n it did work …as someone said..it is lottery sale….

  • +1

    I got Melb-Kl-London for $500, then Paris-KL then KL-Melb for about $450 total
It took ages of battling but I got there

My housemate then booked the same thing later last night, again about 1hr of battling but he got his flights

To save the $1000ish dollars its worth the pain, i had to hit back buttons more times then I can count, some times my AMEX worked, others it came up with errors, my Visa card failed, but then my girlfriends mastercard worked

for all its difficulties it was well worth it in the end

Some tips from a "seasoned" AA traveller:

    • cheaper to book separate legs than return flights eg. MEL-KUL is $200, KUL-MEL $150 for the return ticket. Booked indiviually, it is $200, and RM250 (after taxes, latter works out to $78).
    • party of 3 or more, if you search a specific date and there are no Discounted fares available, try a New search with just 1. You may find the site allows you to book individual fares, but auto-rejects multiple travellers. With a party/family of say 4 people, obviously it's better to have 2-3 members with discounted prices booked individually, and the remainder pay Regular fare, on a first choice travel date, than to have to settle for all 4 Regular fares, or a 2nd choice date.

Oh, and the fares from Aust are inclusive of taxes cos local laws mandate no hidden charges (airport & fuel taxes) in adverts. Fares originating from Msia or other countries do not have such restrictions.

  • Ok so it has taken me the better part of a whole day (meant to be doing uni) but I finally have flights to and from KL (including flights around Borneo) booked for April school hols 2012 for myself and my son…if it weren't for this promotion I would never be able to afford to take him! I reckon all in all he flies for free and I got a decent sale price on mine as well, so well worth the frustrations!

Yes, it took a lot of patience and time but I got what I wanted in the end! Now just to wait for the 10 months before we go…blah!!!

    • Rainforest Festival? :)

  • I bought the Malaysian Airline deal from Syd to KL for early 2012. Thinking of booking Air Asia flights to SG or Taipei. Firstly, are all Air Asia flights at KL departing from Low cost carrier terminal (LCCT)? Anyone have experience in transferring from Kuala Lumpar International to LCCT? Is it a lengthy process/travel?
