I think that luggage is the key differentiator. If you can manage with just carry-on, Jetstar is fine (for me at least). But if you need checked baggage, the price difference is probably not big enough to choose Jetstar over JAL.

    Geez thats cheap!

And a few of then a month away too

  • Does Jetstar come with food and entertainment?

    • +1

Not included, no. You have to pay extra for both.

Costs extra. If you need it, may as well go with JAL

      • I did Japan on Jetstar in 09 (shit, was nearly a decade ago!), and thought I wouldn’t need food. 8-9 hours with only Pringle’s and musile bars in my carry on was harder than I thought.

    • What I've done on many Jetstar flights to Japan - take the time to sleep, & take on some food. That way you'll be rested on arrival & eager for the wonderful local food.

But last few flights I've received free entertainment & last flight - also meals (dinner, breakfast, coffees).

I never book seats (easy as a sole traveller) - taking what is available. It's always worked out well on all airlines, with great seats & interesting company or spare seats.
So guess the person who had cancelled that seat… had booked my food & entertainment😀

      • It's there a website to do this, or do you just wait at the airport haha

        • It seems to be known by frugal travellers. As upgrades go - it's about the lowest possible. It's just luck what you get when you turn up😀

On a very packed discount flight in Asia, about 6 of us arriving without an allocated seat, were given long leg room seats or a row to ourselves. Couples were given seats together. We all knew this trick. Other travellers were offered better seats on that flight if they paid extra on board.
On a Scoot flight to Singapore, I was seated between a couple of local foodies - a man from Singapore & a woman from Malacca (my next destination). They taught me so much local knowledge!

Just in time for year 1 of Reiwa (beautiful harmony) era.

The new Emperor Naruhito ascended to the throne of Japan today 🇯🇵

Japanese date system can be confusing for Foreigners, but mainly used on official documents.

Celebrating with another ice cold Asahi Super Dry, brewed in Japan🍺

  • Never any cheap flights to Japan during September! Is there a reason for this I'm not privy to?

    • +1

School holidays probably don't help :/

      • That'd probably do it. Thanks for the info!

  • Who's going to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics?! As a result next year is gonna be chokkas around Sakura Season and afterwards for The Games…

  • It doesn’t seem working, can someone confirm these specials are still available?

    • Only a few at each date, I suspect, from jetstar, so as they sell out, some dates will stop working. Have to play around and try and find dates that still have them. The ones I did find took me a while, but it's worth it if you get one!

  • Anyone know how to find flights to japan from Adelaide?

So annoying to find these deals. OP didn’t post any for Adelaide either.

    • Yeah, I was trying, but kept coming up around high 400s/mid-500s with connections, and decided to focus on the other cities, sorry. Some of the same dates work with ADL, if you want to try. It was a lot of try/fail/try again to get the dates that I did, but if you find one that works for you, it's a bargain!

  • Can't get the 07 Oct - 17th Oct from Sydney to work. Comes up at $743. Nothing else much cheaper in October from Sydney.

    • They do sell out (only a few seats at each date). have to play around and try and find one that works. Ones that I posted earlier may no longer have any left.
