This sounds like a 24m plan. You sure it's 12 months? I hope it's available in Perth.

    • +1

JB Cockburn confirmed deal today and tomorrow only.

    • Can confirm this is indeed a 12 month contract. Ends 4/5.

      • Fantastic, thanks! Is it all stores?

      • I also would like to know which stores.

        • +2

Yes, it's company wide. If the team member isn't aware, ask them to check the store SharePoint.

  • If what you say is true I'll sign up. Wonder if it's available in Sydney

  • Says 24 months onsite

    • In store offers may be different. Online is also 80GB per month and $300/$500 phone voucher, not a gift card.

Minimum plan cost $1560 over 24 months.

    • +13

That's a lot of money for an iPhone 7

  • JB's website notes 24 months AND the credit value is subject to:
"To receive the $500 phone credit the handset purchase price must be a minimum value of $999. Phone credit can’t be used on any other items in store. handset must be purchased the same day the connection is made."
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/mobile/

  • what is the expiry date the for the gift card? two years?

    • +2

They don't expire any more, it's printed on the back now.

    • its illegal to have it below 3 years now

  • Its for new customers only.

Has anyone ever ported a phone over to a different provider for these sorts of plans? The MRS needs a new phone and we are on the $69 dollar 60Gb sim only plan reduced by $10 for having multiple services.

    • yeah my MRS did. Was with Virgib Mobile post and moved to Telstra post. No hassle.

      • Does anyone know if telcos put timeframes on how long between porting, cause if i port out of telstra and then port back in can this all be done in a few hours?

        • +1

Depends on the store/person. I've been told no wait a month, than went down the road and done it immediately. Two seperate occasions.

        • Yeah they changed it last year I believe. My wife and I switch carriers every year but make sure one stays with Telstra or Optus to get the perks from both. Ported to optus prepaid last October for a few days and then tried the JB gift card deal, but they said I’d need to be switched for at least 30 days. Then I was stuck in limbo and no carrier would treat me as a “new” customer= no special deal.

          • +1

@DryScissors: Wow thats a massive dissapointment. I know they offer these deals to get people to switch over carriers, but its more reason to jump shit to a different carrier because they dont offer the loyal customers these products.

            • +8

@Rangaskhan: I usually jump shit too as I hate getting it on my shoes.

    Rang Strand Pitt St store.

    Two long running deals:

    $45 for 50gb and $200 card, 12 month plan.

$65 deal for 60gb. 12 months gets you a $300 gift card, 24 months gets you a $500 gift card.

For two days only they are offering the $500 gift card on the 12 month plan. And it's a JB gift card, doesn't have to be used on a phone.

    • Solid deal

      Will upgrade the other half

    • Same for World Square Sydney.

    • When does the $500/12month start end?

    • -1

      $50 gift card for $45/m 12months plan?

      $45x12m=$540-$500gift card=$40for 50gb over 12months?

    • $500 gift card how long it’s valid for?

      • +1

        Forever no expiry

        • great! thank you

  • Can anyone confirm that this deal is 12 months not 24 months?

    • +1

      See post directly above.

  • +2

These JB plans don't have included international calls. Cannot add international calling packs either.

    • +4

Well, I think at this price you are asking too much. At least the plan cover all the basic need with heaps of data.

      • 300 AUD 12 months plan from Boost has unlimited international calling. Telstra need to bump their offering.

        • $300 for 240gb data over 12 months

        • are you comparing 20gb data p/m with 60gb data p/m?

      • Depends what you want from the plan. Also, the fact that international call pack cannot be added is not mentioned anywhere.

    • you could switch the plan to a Telstra plan later i suppose ?

      • You can, but not 100% guaranteed. I have moved from JB plan to telstra plan to get POM, but it took me talking to 5 different rep until the last one finally agreed to change my plan.

        • What's POM?

          • +1

@Rakddon: Peace of mind data. Basically when you run out data, you don't get additional charged, but instead your internet speed will be cut down to 1.5mbps.

    • Worth knowing but just use apps like WhatsApp or buy credit for Skype etc

  • +3

I was pretty set on Boost $300/24Gb before I saw this deal. I don't need more than 20Gb a month and the extra $480 I have to pay on Telstra pretty much wipes out the $500 gift card anyway. Boost is still a better deal if you don't need the extra data.

  • What's the minimum time you need to be a non Telstra customer?

I'm with Telstra now but can I port out to another provider tonight then port into the Telstra deal?
    (lets say 1 hour)

    • You need to use it for a month or 1 billing cycle before you could port out to this deal.

      • I'm with boost atm and I'm thinking of porting to Vodafone prepaid today then port to jbhifi tomorrow, will it be possible?

        • I asked the store this exact question. They said 1 month if was to port to another provider (eg Optus) and take up the plan. I am unsure how accurate this information was - as the person asked their manager

      • Nope yesterday i am still use telstra and bought $10 prepaid optus sim. Cancel the plan with telstra and get this $45 deals with jb with 50 gigs. I even got $10 discount monthly credit for porting in to telstra as new customer hahahaa.

        • Was the port in credit from JB or from Telstra live chat?

Edit - Just saw a post further down, for those also wondering it is from live chat.

          • +1

@mapax: Tesltra live chat but it depends on your luck. I got mine after second try. So good luck

    • i was in the store and they said this offer is also for customers upgrading their existing plan with Telstra

      • so it's confirmed $500 gift card with 12 month $65 plan?

        • +1

no for 12 months it is only $300.

          • @Jaff: Didn’t they confirmed it $500 for 12 month plan only for two days? Check above abc12345’s comment

            • +1

@Xinjiang: Confirmed, I just signed up for 12 months with a $500 gift card.

              Did 2 numbers.

              • @abc12345: As in you ‘did 2 numbers’ that already were on Telstra? I was told in store it’s for ported in numbers only.

      • +1

Would be interested in hearing if anyone has managed to get this deal being an existing customer.

I am out of contract so basically on a month to month plan.

        • thats what i asked and was told existing customers can upgrade to the offer

        • No go at the rude galleries store here in Sydney

        • They wouldn't do it at Germside

      • +1

I'd be very surprised if that's the case, and not a mistake.

      • I tried to port from boost (a telstra company) and got denied in Melb

    • +1

I was the same, Telstra to Voda, back to Telstra within 1 hour.

      Worked on 2 different numbers.

      • You ported out from Telstra to vida then ported into Telstra in this deal all within 1 hour?

        • Yep. No issue.

Voda store in Wynyard, went back to my desk and registered the sim card and for My Vodafone.

Waited about 15 mins then went to Pitt St JB.

          • @abc12345: Weird. They asked me if I was recently on Telstra as they could tell I recently ported out to Optus. Anyone know the deal?

  • +1

Anybody get the 128GB iPhone 7 for an extra $100 instead of the 32GB? ($749 for 128GB vs $649 for 32GB)

  • Does this sim plan allow data tethering?

    • -4

      no

    • +1

Like hotspot and stuff? I have the $45 one and I can.

      • Yes hotspot, thank you!

        • -1

Sorry I assumed you were referring to data sharing

  • I did a port out to optus for a day and back to Telstra for this deal last tie it was around and they offered a iPHone 8 for $600 with it.

    • Didn’t work for me today unfortunately

  • Any expiry date on the gift card for those that have taken up this offer?

    • +1

JB no longer has an expiry as mentioned above

      • Thank you. That’s good to know.

  • It would have been great, if it had international calls included in it. Telstra $59 plan has included in it.

    • i am in the same boat. JB said their plans are exclusive and telstra cannot add the pack later even if they wanted to.

  • +1

Let me know if I have understood this correctly. If I port over to JB and buy this phone https://www.jbhifi.com.au/phones/Outright-Mobile-Handsets/hu…

    I will pay the following:
    $1599 - $500 JB gift card = $1,099 - $200 egift card = $899 + $65 month for 12 months

    • Do they take the $200 off the phone? I wouldn't think they did, so it would likely be $1099 with a leftover $200 gift card to spare.

      • Yeah true it would be $200 to spend on something else instead so not technically off the phone

        • Still a good deal all things considered!

    • @Zinga, I assume you have seen the HN offer for Pro 30
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/454598

      • No I haven't. Wasn't after one but thought I would check out what would work out to be the best phone deal for my sis who broke her phone.

  • Tried to do it today porting from Telstra > Aldi this morning then went to JB HiFi, they put through the order but when I went back to collect my Gift Card Telstra had rejected the port-back and the JB rep told them I hate to wait 30 days, unfortunately.

    • Maybe because Aldi uses the Telstra network, so you wouldn’t be considered a new customer or porting might be a bit more complicated, instead of had you switched to Optus or Vodafone.

  • I just ported 2 existing Telstra numbers to Voda pre paid and then back to Telstra in the space of an hour.

All done. $1000 of gift cards.

    • Were the Telstra numbers you ported prepaid or postpaid?

    • 12 or 24 month?

    • Did they ask if you were on Telstra in the last month?

  • Checked with my local jb (the glen), only $200 gift card pkus $300/$500 off handset.

    • Its JB HiFi wide.Try a different store if they refuse.

  • Hi all. Looking for advice. Is it worth me giving up my Optus cable broadband and taking up this Telstra 4g option instead? I currently pay $65 for Optus cable with patchy service and I won't get NBN until 2021 (if I'm Lucky!) I figure if I buy this and a 4g router this could be a cheaper option when you factor in the gift card. Will I get better or at the very least the same quality of service from Telstra 4g as I'm currently getting from Optus Cable do you think? I'm in metro Melbourne…
