Harvey Norman - 20% off Almost Everything Electrical and Most of Store

810

Harvey Norman are having a 20% off sale for almost everything in the electrical department and also have 20% off non-electricals not listed in their current catalogue.

Whether this is a good sale or not for you depends on whether your local Harvey Norman are a rip-off (Gordon NSW) or price competitively (North Ryde NSW).

Tonight I picked up the following:
* Fisher and Paykel E442BRX 442 litre fridge for $1197.60 + delivery cost
* Bosch WAE2026AU 6.5kg washing machine $599.20 + delivery cost + free 6kg of OMO

Delivery was a flat $65 and would have been the same if I had bought 1 or 10 items.

These prices are VERY competitive.

Contrast that with Gordon NSW store who have the same fridge marked at $1991 less 20% - so that's $1592.80 after the discount - more than the $1497 pre-discount price at North Ryde.

If you shop at the Gordon NSW store you are most definitely paying TOO MUCH.

A few other bargains worth mentioning:
* XBOX Arcades for $148 less 20%
* Electrolux EWF10831 8kg front load washing machine $727 less 20% + delivery cost
* PSP 3000 handhelds for $148 less 20% (Gordon)
* 16gb Toshiba USB sticks $25 less 20% (North Ryde) or more expensive at Gordon…
* Samsung UA46C7000 46" LED TV - around $1450 after the 20% discount (again at Ryde)
* 55" LED TV - ChongHing brand or something like that - $795 after the 20% discount (Gordon)…
* Tivo 320gb $469 less 20%
* Whirlpool WRID41TN 410 litre fridge $899 less 20% + free $100 gift voucher + delivery cost
* Pretty much everything electrical, including the current Harvey Norman catalogue, reduced by 20%
* 20% off all computers
* 20% off still cameras and video cameras
* 20% off vacuums
* 20% off games and gaming consoles
* 20% off non-electricals not in current catalogues (if your local Harvey Norman sells non-electricals)

The sale is "while stocks last" but your store may or may not let you order in

Some brands are excluded - Miele, Apple, Asko, Falcon, Gaggenau, Neff

I am thinking of buying a full HD video camera - there were some decent looking Canons for less than $400 after the discount…

        • Gerry gonna sue you for defamation :)

    • +2

      I'm not sure about illegal, but morality varies from person to person.

    • +1

      prolly the reason Gerry doesnt want to go online is missing out on the kickbacks from tying the bogans into usurous contracts with the financial companies

      • Lol great article. I never feels right whenever i walked into his store. I have not bought a thing from them for the past 4 years and when i did it was some blank dvds. Their service and price are designed to ripe you.

    • John, i support you there. I am buyer most of my stuff online and overseas.

    • No need to insult Gerry, let the man do it himself:

      "The internet is a fad. It'll be gone in a few years"

      "There should be more tax on stuff bought online from overseas, so I don't have to reduce my profits to something reasonable. Not just cause it'd make me more rich, but because the internet is un-Australian"

      • Gerry Harvey

      (liberally paraphrased, obviously)

  • Are gaming consoles included?

    • Yes - I bought a PSP 3000 for $148 less 20%

      • Thanks I was just not sure about the PS3 haha. Will go have a look tomorrow.

    • Read description mate
      "A few other bargains worth mentioning:

      • XBOX Arcades for $148 less 20%

      • PSP 3000 handhelds for $148 less 20%"

      What I'd like to know though is if it includes dslr lenses?

      • Not sure about the lenses but my guess would be yes they are included as they are sold with the cameras….

        Probably depends a bit on the store you goto too - my guess would be the good stores would have them discounted.

        The bad stores are the ones that give Harvey Norman it's bad reputation….

  • Is this all stores australia wide?

    • +1

      I suspect so - definitely all in NSW.

    • Where and for how long ?

      • +2

        Ends Monday. I believe that is close of business Monday.

  • 20% off iPads 2 as well?

    • +4

      Made by Apple, so no.

      • -7

        Then it isn't really everything electrical 20% off then, yeah?

        • +3

          A couple of brands are excluded - Miele, Apple

          I've updated the title to "almost everything electrical"

        • +7

          Apple's fault for being control freaks.

        • -2

          Apple products look pretty. That means they don't depreciate.

  • So this is off ticketed prices only in store or does it also apply to their advertised prices on their website?

    • Ticketed prices in store. I found in North Ryde the ticketed prices were the same or lower than the web site.

      Take for example the fridge I bought - on the web site and in the current catalogue it is $1599.
      North Ryde marked price $1497 - then take another 20% off.

      In Gordon ticketed prices often higher than in the current catalogue or on the web site - fridge marked as $1991.

      • +1

        Shouldnt ticketed prices be the same as those advertised on the website?

        • In theory yes - in practice its not the case - I can attest to that.

          Put it this way - you should never pay more than the lowest advertised price, but in some stores you will find lower ticketed prices and in others you will find ticketed prices higher than on the web.

          Where the web price is lower they are obliged to sell it to you for the web price unless the web price is an error.

          For example the Electrolux EWF10831 8kg front load washing machine at $727 less 20% (plus delivery) at North Ryde is an absolute steal.

          It's $878 on the website and you can have it delivered to your door for $581.60 + $65 delivery.

          Note there were only 3 of those as of 9pm last night…

          I didnt buy it because I decided 8kg was probably bigger than I needed - but if you've got a family and need a washing machine that is an absolute no brainer purchase.

        • Interesting, what if the web price is lower than the ticketed price (before the discount). Should they honour the web price and then reduce it by 20%? Or just reduce their ticketed price by 20%?

        • Ambiguous - I would say they should honour the web price and apply 20% to that.

          You won't have a problem with the good stores, but the bad ones you might have to have an argument with before they honour it…

  • Tempting! want a ps3, and with the amex cashback makes it a more reasonable deal. $340 according to website price.

    @GreatWhiteHunter: which HN you shopped at?

    • +1

      North Ryde NSW. I recommend them highly.

      Avoid Gordon NSW.

    • How does the Amex cashback work?

  • cool i need more external hdd

    cheers

  • Woo possibly new psp and mechanical keyboard if Woden doesn't disappoint :D which they most likely will. Their sales staff are so nOt helpful.so clueless most of the time too

    • BTW the PSP I got was the Toy Story 3 red bundle one with the game and a couple of bonuses.

      They also had plain black and silver PSPs at Gordon…

      • could you check the firmware version on it and let me know please? =]

    • +1

      total waste of time. half of the store is like bare, they've moved everything around and it looks so empty. they just had clearance tables with tonnes of software from the 90's and a crap load of logitech and microsoft peripherals.
      Their games section is also now non existent - i wanted the toy story 3 psp but their price was $299 just for the console #@%#$^ :(. id say that woden is worse than OPs mentioned gordon store.

      I wont even bother with the store anymore…

  • Is this a nation wide sales event? It's not mentioned on their website.

    • I am not sure but it is definitely NSW wide judging by the newspaper ads…

      In theory it starts tomorrow (4 day sale ending COB Monday) so you might find it on their web site in the morning.

      It seems most NSW stores started discounting today…

      • Hmm, I've not come across this in their screaming ads on TV or the newspaper in Melbourne. May be it's restricted to NSW.

        • Starts tomorrow officially - I reckon it will be on TV and in your paper in the morning…

        • You're absolutely correct. The 4-Day "May Mania" sale has just appeared on their website.

  • A good deal, but my closest is Armadale WA - they have pretty much nothing interesting.

  • Any Kinect deals?

    • I'm guessing it's 20% off the bundle kit as well
      250GB + Kinect for $549 -> $439.x
      4GB + Kinect for $449 -> $359.2

      That's if they do have them for the same price as JB

      they may have cheaper bundles with less games

    • +1

      http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/search?addFacet=def_s…

      just found this on the website

      20% off would be $342.40

  • Is Auburn considered one of the expensive stores?

    • +1

      Hmm I have had mixed experiences in Auburn - on most recent experience I would say they are not a great store.

      Someone who goes there tomorrow might want to report in - they do have a pretty big electrical department so if they price well, it would be a good place to shop.

      • +1

        Yeah I could never find good deals there.

        Usually on ozbargain, all the deals are at Alexandria or something.

  • WANNA know if this is national wide, hope it is, time to grab a canon dslr

    • I'll go out on a limb and say it is nation wide. The merchandising in store is typical of the nationwide stuff…

    • If prices are good, I too might join the dslr wagon.

  • Anyone know how much a Dlink Boxee Box would be? It says $299 on the website but wondering if anyone has seen the tag price recently

  • D7000 here I come!

    • +2

      let us know how much you grab it for =)

    • yeaaaa, great time aye lol
      i saw they selling 60d for 1350 with single lens kit thats cheap even before the 20% off

    • +1

      Lol, it is not a bargain when the list price is $2050.

  • I reckon ASKO would be excluded like Miele?

    • +1

      Yeah I've found the newspaper ad and the excluded brands are:
      Miele, Apple, Asko, Falcon, Gaggenau, Neff

      Basically all the brands that maintain the prices of their goods..

  • +5

    I think this is confirmation it is a national sale

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/page/1256976621758/may-mania

    It also extends the sale to non-electricals that are not in the catalogue…

    • yeaaaaaaaaaa u are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • +1

    Nikon D3100 DSLR 18-55mm Single Lens Kit
    On the website for $848.00 (presumably same in-store price).
    Less 20% = $678.40, which is cheaper than this post last month ($707, 42 +ves).
    Less $50 (Amex cashback) = $628.40.

    So is this a good deal?

    • how do you get AMEX cashback? online or instore?

    • Sounds pretty good to me - and with a little luck you might find the instore price less than $848

      You'd want to be quick though because I doubt most stores would honour that price if they don't have stock…

  • lots of tempting stuff in HN… gonna camp at HN during dawn.. next destination will be DFO… oh gosh~

    • +1

      Don't forget the sleeping bag and lots of hot coffee.

  • Does that mean Optus Galaxy Tabs for $240?

    • -2

      i remember HN doesnt sell SGT for outright… how bout change your mind for buying acer iconia.. around 422 for 16gb.

      • There were reports of some HN selling them outright for $299. Depends on the store and sales person I think.

      • are the iconias really included?? :O

        been eyeing one of the 16gb units for a few weeks now, this would decide it!

        • thought i posted it earlier but didn't seem to be the case…
          bought the iconia tab a500 16g version for roughly $430. ($527 x 20% off)
          will get $50 cashback from the amex promotion as well so making it effectively $380.

  • looking to buy Toshiba 40" Full High Definition LCD TV.Harvey Norman price is $800 with 20% off.checked last week at the good guys it was $650.i will wait till 50% everything from Harvey.Mr Norman,are you listening?

  • +2

    I'm gonna walk into my local HR store with a look of utter cynicism on my face and sniff it out carefully. I've been duped one too many times by this mob.

  • +1

    seem the radio ad I heard this morning might be false …said 20% off storewide no expects ….
    but then I bet the prices are up over 20% in the last week!

    • thats technically illegal

      • Nothing technical about it, it's illegal full stop.

  • Good to see Harvey Norman here - up to now Bing Lee have been making the running here with electronics.

    Pity I bought my big TV already from BL!
