NB: This is the satellite only and does NOT include the router unit.

If you want both, you need the RBK not RBS.

    • +3

Description is misleading in amazon: "Standalone Orbi Router"

      • Yes you are right. They seem to have the description of the RBR (router) unit.

        The title shows RBS (satellite).

If you need both the router and satellite, that is the RBK (kit).

      • +1

Their description may not be the clearest, but their title is accurate: "NETGEAR Orbi Whole Home AC2200 Tri-Band Add-On Satellite Home System (RBS40-100AUS)". Suggest that your title be updated to match theirs.

BTW RBK=kit, RBR=router, and RBS=satellite. The RBK40 includes one router and one satellite. This listing is for those who wants to add a second satellite to the kit.

    • I think it’s worth mentioning the satellite will only work if you already have the router unit.
(Product picture makes it look like the router and satellite units are the same unit)

From Kogan description: Orbi router, RBR40 or RBR50, is required for satellite to work (not included).

    This is no deal.

Orbi systems will be dropping in price over the next few months, as Netgear have announced a new version that supports Wi-Fi 6 to be released during the second half of the year:
    https://www.netgear.com/about/press-releases/2019/NETGEAR-AN…

I think that the RBK50 system (AC3000) can support this via a firmware upgrade (but not the AC2000 systems), but I'm not 100% sure.

    • I think prices have already started dropping, the RBK30 model went for $116 in April. Happily paid ~$240 (double) around 2 years ago (and that was with price beat).
Great well made product with solid WiFi strength and speed.

  • Also worth mentioning I prefer the ‘wall-plug’ satellite which comes with the RBK30 model.
The wall-plug satellite has the plug located directly on the unit, which makes it simply plug into the wall socket (although it lacks any Ethernet connections).
The satellite unit in this deal has an external power supply, adding complexity to placement options with the messy cable getting in the way.

    • How is the ping going? I heard wifi mesh ping is a little bit high, not good for gaming

      • Never had an issue.

      • Sorry my knowledge in Computers is more consumer level, I would assume more advanced high-end routers will perform better for ‘ping’ and other areas.

  • Are there any stand alone satellite units that’s from the RBK 50?

I’ve got the RBK50 but looking at a matching satelitte

    • +1

The matching satellite for you would be the RBS50 (AC3000).

However, you can pair this AC2200 satellite to your AC3000. Orbi allows you to mix match.

    • Same here tried to find to RBS50, can't find it at all.

  • Get this or Tenda Mesh Wifi system?

  • Cheaper to buy a proper wireless access point
