  • yay! got the last one at telechoice marion SA, and the b*stards at optus have said it has left the warehouse when i went to cancel my online order. But i need to refuse the delivery if they cant cancel it. So someone may get lucky and get one that is on backorder.

    • Good luck with that because I had to pick mine up at the PO because the courier can't be bother ringing the bell and just left a card.

      • -1

successfully refused delivery.. now i have to wait for refund

    • +1

"The bastards at Optus" , you mean the ones that are actually making this deal happen ie you notice its an Optus prepaid phone that you want!

  • +3

Does this tablet come with 12 or 24 months warranty? The warranty card says 24 months but I thought it was only 12 months.

  • +1

Does anyone know how I can upgrade to 2.2 with MAC OSX? Tried searching everywhere with no luck!

    • +1

I think your best bet is to borrow someone's PC. Just download the upgrade file to a memory stick and then run it on any windows PC. It only takes a couple of minutes.

  • DSE sold out. Harvey Norman don't have any @ Alexandria. A few other HN out of stock in surrounding areas. More coming in stock on Friday or Monday -that's what I was told by a CSR.

Don't understand why Optus can't get em in stock, but HN/DSE etc can order them no probs..
And why are Optus charging $269 for the mytab if they're out of stock?!?! 0_o

  • +3

If you search the Optus site you will see three different prices ($269, $149 and $99). This is interesting as it is the same product, misleading or fraudulent?

By the way I got mine from AP on 31/5, thanks to the poster who alerted us to the availability via AP. I am very pleased with it and have an ereader as well as IGO GPS up and running. The GPS far better than my now outdated MIO. The IGO GPS does not require an active 3G or wireless connection and so it does not use data quota. So all round an excellent little device, especially for the money.

For anyone interested DSE at the Pines East Doncaster had 2 in the glass cabinet as of last Sunday. Note they were on the lowest shelf and wee out of direct sight, so ask.

    • +1

Hi, what's the full name of the gps app you are using? Can I download it from the market? I search IGO but get nothing, thanks very much.

      • +4

Hi, it is iGO MyWay 8.4.2.139242 for Android plus the R18 maps covering Australia. It is not from the market. Simply google the terms and I found a download an torrent listings. Use any version of the IGO (i.e. European, UK or USA) install then replace the maps etc with the Australian ones, transfer the software to the SD card via the USB cable, install the app and away you go. I hope this is helpful.

        • I have IGO MyWay also on my Tab. Its a great little gps now. Downloaded the latest Asian Maps also for next time I got to Malaysia.

        • I tried iGO Myway but it doesn't use the whole screen? It sits in a corner…looks kinda crap…

          Any ideas?

        • Re the small display, did you download the right one for the screen size? You need a 800 x 480 to work correctly with this unit. Hope this helps.

    • Update: Both units at DSE the Pines VIC have gone as of today (Thursday). So I hope they went to someone from here.

  • +2

The deliveries from Doptus should have been made. I think most would have received it yesterday or today. Else, you are in the far far away delivery group unfortunately.

  • +2

Updated mine to GingerBread CM7 and it's running smoothly, all applications can now be moved to SD card to get rid of the low memory crap notification.

    • gingerbread is worth the update. worth also getting as big and as fast an SD card as you can afford as possible

    • Do you have to go to gingerbread to put all apps on sd card? Can't you do this with 2.2?

      • +2

Yes you can, but only selected Apps, but with CM7, you can move almost everything to SD. I'm not sure if this is because of CM7 customization or built-in Gingerbread feature.

By the way, i also repartitioned my SDcard into 2 partition (Ext2 & Fat32), i guess the ext2 partition tricks android that it is part of the built-in storage, maybe that's the reason why I'm not getting the Low memory notification.

  • Could someone please confirm whether it is capable of playing xvid/divx and flash video smoothly with either Android 2.2 or hacked 2.3 CM7. Thanks

    • I believe read somewhere in a forum that it can't play flash, as the cpu needs to be 800mhz and above, unless someone finds a way to overclock it to 800mhz.

      • +1

Its not the clock speed, it is the CPU detail - v6 not v7.

        • are you serious that it can't play flash? cause I just did it…. what? CPU needs to be 800Mhz? where are you making this up? you can have pocket pc's running flash!

      • +1

FYI. Post #111 on this page http://android.modaco.com/content-page/337130/zte-v9-light-2…

        ========================
I can see some of the people here is struggling to install and run Adobe Flash Player 10.1 this could be reason why (the device is only 600 Mhz). Here is a reply from the supplier of the device in Hong Kong when I question them why I can not install Adobe Flash Player 10.1 when I thought when you upgraded the Android 2.2, you can use Flash Player 10.1, here is what they have said:-

        "Dear Dave,

        Thanks for your enquiry.

According to Adobe flash 10.1 system requirement, apart from OS 2.2, the CPU required 800MHz CPU for WVGA display.

ZTE Light only have 600MHz CPU, it is not possible to support adobe flash 10.1.

        adobe flash 10.1 "

So do you think if we can overclock the device to at least 800Mhz which May will allow us to Run Adobe Flash Player 10.1 (Attached File flash_player_10_1.zip ( 4.15MB ) Number of downloads: 11)? Any reliable App out there that can overclock our ZTE Lighe V9?

        =====================

        • I might be wrong. But what is the difference between installing Adobe Flash Player and playing Flash? I thought they are the same thing. And what you are using to play Flash?

    • plays those formats fine, although you will need to install a player to handle the formats just like a pc, the one you want is mobo player.

for flash video just use the youtube application , and for the above to work you dont even need to upgrade the firmware or os

      • Don't expect too much with the rendering of anything other than MP4 SP - the hardware format. With a 600Mhz processor it struggles to decode processor intensive formats in software.

  • DSE have finally reduced their price to $99 to reflect the rrp —-> sold out online though and very little stock instore. Might be useful if anyone has purchased one for $149 in the last couple of weeks to go back and get them to refund the 50 dollars. http://dicksmith.com.au/product/E6572/optus-mytab-7-quot-and…

  • I picked up an A-Ram 16gb Class 10 MicroSDHC from ITEstate (Sydney) for $32. Comes with 3 years warranty. Search for product code 11258 on their site: http://www.itestate.com.au/

Yeah class 10 might be overkill but can't hurt and I thought might be worth it given the Class 4 and 6 were $23 and $26 respectively. Can use it later in the Camera if need be.

Have never used A-Ram memory cards before but online reviews sound good. This fella from NZ ran a few benchmarks with his 32gb version of the same card and the results were quite alright: http://www.gpforums.co.nz/thread/421113/1/

    • +1

a-ram is a solid brand. I had issues when i purchased it in HK, and the shop replaced on the spot. for these devices always get fastest speed that you can afford. with the new ROM you will probably want most apps to run direct off SD

  • Good Guys in Warrnambool have 3 left in stock.
$97 plus $15 courier fee to Melb.
Need to pay on card over phone.

    Who wants one?

    • None left as for now. Called and was told sold out overnight.

  • +1

I have a juicy question! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So I updated to the official optus 2.2
    I then installed OneClickRecoverV9
    I then ran gapps-gb-20110520-signed and update-cm-7.1.0-RC0-V9-KANG-signed-20110520

    I then reset my tablet.

It is now stuck in the Cyanmod skateboard loop.

I have searched forums and tried the following
'-' & power on = stuck at the android logo
'+' & power on = boots to the Cyanmod skateboard loop
    '-' & '+'& power on = black screen

Really afraid I bricked my V9.. Any ideas?

    • Did you wipe the data and clear the cache? You must wipe it from OneClickRecovery menu before rebooting

      • Just a wild idea but what happens if you plug it into a PC via the USB? It may break the cycle enough to change something.

        • +1

it's not bricked. you might need to restart and run recovery. Else take battery out and start again. don't play around with the device when you're upgrading. always safer to do so from a laptop which has UPS. But theoretically should be fine, since a partial ROM won't work anyways. should be recoverable from where you are at.

  • '-' & power on = stuck at the android logo

Does not matter. Run the 2.2 tool and plug in the tablet. Should still work.

  • still waiting for the order to arrive, ordered mine at 3 June 16.00pm, optus just text me twice said the delivery is delayed yesterday. Is anyone who experience the delay as well?

    • yep received an email a couple of days ago saying it was delayed - i ordered about 2:30.
They haven't really said how long it would take…

      • I ordered via optus online at 11:30am on the 1/6/11. I rang them again today and they said that it will be more than 10 days, but should be less than 1 month…. then they trailed off in silence. To date I have not received anything in my email or sms saying that it is delayed.
They also seem rather keen to give me my money back.

        • You're not the only one, their story seems to have changed now to "I can't say when we'll get more stock" and that if I cancelled "the refund would be processed within the day".
Like you I have still yet to actually get anything from them notifying me of the problem, sick of calling them.

  • I received mine few days ago (Optus online)
Successfully unlocked and updated to 2.2

Activated the optus sim, only received $0.89 call credit
    Doesn't say anything about 3GB data…or sms

I guess I have to recharge to get the 3GB data?

    Any thoughts?

    • +2

It is there. Just sms 'balance' to 9999 from your tab, to get 2 messages with all of your balances inc data.

      • Thanks Mate

I went to Optus Bourke St (Melbourne) today and I was told that new stock is coming at the end of this week.

  • The Good Guys have this for $99 too, just saw it on their new catalogue.

    • +1

They have plenty of stock as well. They are getting 100 units to each store in Adelaide by Friday.

      • Hope it was a good sign that Optus backorder will be deliver soon.

        • No I had a call from them today
they are still saying 2-4 weeks

      • just went to a good guys in WA they had just received an email from head office saying that would not be getting any stock and no ETA they also ordered a 100 .

        • well hope they not getting into trouble since it might be consider advertising sale goods that they didn't stock like HN which busted by ACCC.

  • A lot of people here seem to be very confused about Flash.
Flash will not run on this device, but you do not need it if you just want to play flash videos.
No, making it run faster will not help. Its just not compiled for a v6 CPU.
See a more technical forum for details.

iPad is a v7, so can be hacked to run Flash. Not this one though, unless someone reverse-engineers it, or translates the machine code.

Got the initial email it was delayed but it turned up this morning which was a surprise
    Ordered late last wednesday

  • +1

I ordered via optus online at 07:30am on the 1/6/11 and confirmed at 8:30pm. Now it is trackable and said "Pick up at 8/06, 19:23 from GRANVILLE".

    • Yes mine also can be track now and it has a same pick up time, probably massive "My Tab" pickup going on :)

      • Yay, same with my order (orded on 1/6 at noon). Now it's trackable in Aus Post. Hopefully will get today.

Everyone who ordered online on that day should check your status now.

    • I just get it!!!

      • Got confirmation from home it already arrived … got to go home quick then …

  • +1

Called Optus yesterday and was told I am still on the waiting list. Checked the order number via the track link and status of my order changed to 'Received from linehaul' now.

    • It just arrived, so happy now!

  • I ordered mine at around 1pm last Wednesday and my order number finally works. Called them today and they said they attempted delivery at 9am, even though I was home(Cannot be bothered or couldn't find the apartment intercom I guess). They told me they don't have a depot so I cant pick mine up today, but they would try again tomorrow and then leave it at the post office if they "failed" again, an improvement. :)

    • +1

Gto several messages saying that it would be delayed but I just got mine. ( Good thing i live close to Granville, perhaps)

BTW, guys, you need to show your Drivers License or Passport.

Also, do you need to pick it up yourself or can a family member be present? Could we clear that up. My delivery guy even asked me as he wasn't sure.

      • +1

I was required to show my drivers License or any IDs with photo. But I dont think it's mandatory.

      • Wow, the thing actually fits in my pocket. That's a suprise.

Also, the old phone recycling pouch was a nice gesture.

  • +1

Just called Good Guys in Preston and they told me they had a shipment of 10 that sold out when the catalogue came out. Head office advises them that there is only 150 units for the whole of Australia and to not take any orders for it. Best bet is to call back and check on Monday according to them.

Anyone out there managed to score one with a front facing camera?

  • I wasn't home but missus was, she got suss coz delivery person asked for my D/L or passport! I should have really warned her I guess. Delivery person was extremely rude apparently >.>
So if you aren't going to be home, warn someone was is at home now!

    • That's funny. My driver seemed nice and polite. However, he seemed confused and had poor communication skills.

  • received mine this morning, can't find any tax invoice within the box, did you guys receive the tax invoice? (ordered online from optus)

    • received mine just now, invoice was in the postage box.

      • +1

but there is no $ amount showing on the invoice

        • +1

Yes, mine too, it is truncated in the printing (look at the borders on the left vs right). I'm planning on phoning them next week to get them to email me an invoice showing actual prices on it.

  • Received mine this morning at 11am. Ordered online last Wednesday at 1pm.

Could anyone help me to find the MAC address for my Wifi connection?

    • +1

slide to unlock. on the home screen tap settings. scroll down to about phone and tap it. tap on status. scroll down and you will see wi-fi MAC address :)

  • Hey just received mine today, this is going to be a dumb question but how do i open the back cover? the instructions are so vague and doesnt describe how to remove the back cover. Theres no button or anything.

    Thanks!

    • +1

Insert a screwdriver blade into the corner near the 'home' key and prise gently apart. Once the corner starts to move you can work your way around the casing.

      • you can actually just use your fingers. works fine too

  • +3

there's an indent on the bottom left corner of the tab, just lift that with your fingers

  • Just got mine through Optus online shop, ordered on 2 June. Not happy from the service optus gave, following the order. Not enough communication and misleading text messages. Unlocked using Nextgen, all good now.

  • After updating to un-official 2.3 firmware, has anyone had problems connecting with the 3gb prepaid sim it comes with or any similar issues?

  • Got a card from Messenger Post Couriers today following order at Optus online last week. Looks like Optus has finally shipped it and now it is waiting for me to pick it up this Saturday at the post office.

  • Finally it came. First thing I did was the official upgrade to 2.2. Seems a bit faster. Anyone think it is a big difference to go to an un official 2.3 android?

  • Should I upgrade to 2.2 or root it first?

    • +1

First thing I recommend is to upgrade using the official optus upgrade.

Then root using z4root from "http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1713293&p=1" under step 1 (He provides the username and password that allows you to download z4root)
Then I installed Launcher Pro. It is like a new device! I highly recommend this

For more experienced people I would also recommend titanium backup pro. This allows you to "freeze" all the bloatware installed by optus. after a reboot everything disappears and also frees up system resources.
(Be warned as it looks rather powerful and might pose a risk if you remove the wrong thing)

      Hope it helps

  • 3G tethering is only available once you upgrade to 2.2 and the connection to a PC is seamless using Ubuntu 11.04

Another good reason why the ZTE V9 kick ass! You can throw away the USB 3G key!

    http://jayhaich.blogspot.com/2011/06/usb-tethering-zte-v9-wi…

  • I want to tether my 2.2 tablet unlocked with my 3gs JB 4.3.3…
Peronal Hotspot on iphone.. just isnt working for me, I dont know why..
I am now trying via MyWi.. my PC can see the connection but the tab cant see the wifi connection.. any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Strangest thing, I checked the Optus tracking and the status has changed from attempted delivery(1) to delivered. Ive been home all day so they have clearly not delivered anything, the suburb is correct. I would think maybe this means it was dropped off at the post office though there's no note in my mailbox. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. FUN FUN FUN…..still worth the $99 so far

    • +1

Turns out they left it at auspost…didnt leave a note or anything. Im not impressed

      • +2

Same here. My order was to deliver to my workplace. But the guy didn't bother to get to the front door. I know because the secretary would have notify me immediately. No paper left or anything. The only way I found out that delivery failed to reach me was constantly checked with Aus Post online status.

The address was clearly spell on the box so no way the guy would have had any problem found the address. It's only abit hard to park close to the building. Bloody lazy Aus Post.

  • +1

hey, how do i get onto the FTM screen?

I switched it on and held the volume keys but it still doesnt get me there..

edit: im an idiot, suppose to do this on start up.. got it now

    • +1

It took me a whole day to enter FTM mode. Small tip guys, use both hands to press the volume keys.

      • +1

Also, don't wait for the android robot picture to come up (as the instructions says), start pressing the two volume buttons as soon as you have finished pressing the power button.

        • the instructions for moving on to gingerbread are so clear… seriously…. read the step by step instructions

  • finally mine arrived!!!
i upgraded to v2.2 this is probably the best 99 i ever spent :)

  • After 10 days, it finally arrive, nice toy for kids with reasonable price!

  • +4

If people want the steps to upgrade to 2.3, I've put a step-by-step set of instructions at the bottom of the whirlpool wiki page at: http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/zte_tablet_v9_optus ; Note this is very much based on the steps doc file that's in one of the zips, but one of the steps (installing recovery) didn't work for me, so I've updated it to include what did work + other stuff that was useful.

    • +1

Thanks very much for this. Do you have to do the first step, ie, 'unlock from optus'?
