Make a Visa In-Store Purchase at any David Jones Store, Get $5 Bonus (No Min Spend, + 7% Cashback) @ Cashrewards

1610

Hi all. Another nice deal for you. Make any transaction via our In-Store Visa program and receive a $5 bonus on top of the 7% already advertised. There is no minimum spend required and no product exclusions, so you could score a cheap drink or sandwich.

You must first link your Visa card to your Cashrewards account, then activate the offer before purchasing, and pay with the activated Visa card (works with Apple & Google Pay).

The $5 bonus is valid only for transactions made Saturday May 18 and Sunday May 19 at any David Jones store nationally. The $5 will be credited to your Cashrewards account no later than 14 days from time of purchase. Strictly limited to 1x $5 bonus per Cashrewards account.

Click here for a full rundown of in-store merchants, and here for the card-linked FAQs. Happy shopping, and thanks for the ongoing support.

Your Visa card must be an Australian issued card. This includes (but is not limited to) Visa Credit cards, Visa Debit cards and Visa Pre-paid cards. Visa-branded gift cards or cards that have expired, have been cancelled or are otherwise invalid, are not eligible.

Update Fri 7:30pm: Visa & David Jones have sent through approval to add the five missing stores (2x ACT, 1x SA, 1x WA, 1x QLD) to the list of participants, so this offer now applies across the board. Store page has been updated to reflect this. Have a great weekend.

Never had any issues previously, and I’m not the only one. Have you tried contacting them with any issues you’ve had in the past? I’ve always followed their directions exactly and it’s worked without any trouble. To neg the post without any evidence, after countless CR posts in the past with no problems doesn’t make sense.

If you do have any issues then by all means send TA a PM, they’ve always been very responsive and helpful in the past if I’ve had any questions.

    • If you have problems received cashback (I rarely do and both major providers have resolved queries pretty well), then why would you factor it into your decision making?

Given the long payouts and chance of non track, the best way is to simply take it as a bonus, and still buy from the cheapest out of pocket merchant.

    • +3

Again you are speaking against the vast majority of satisfied users and offer no specifics. Maybe you are dissatisfied because you did not follow instructions.

My statistics that point to satisfaction are $650 earned with 200-300 transactions over 4 years, and not one failure to pay.

      Yours??

No, your comments are still there. I’ll let you know if they get blocked 🙃

Not sure what your vendetta against TA/CR is. Hundreds if not thousands of customers have had great experiences with CR, as evidenced by the hundreds of positive votes on TA’s posts to date. Having a glance through I can’t find a single neg, with hundreds of upvotes per post. So I don’t know what truth you’re speaking of, sorry mate.

Also your comment has not been blocked, it’s still visible to everyone, but people are negging you because it’s misinformation.

    • Funny how comments get blocked

Nope, still there. Just downvoted into oblivion.
Fwiw please elaborate the issues that you had with Cashrewards instead of saying it “rarely works”.
For me it always works, only 2 times cashbacks’ve been (rightfully) rejected were an Amazon order that I returned and a Zavvi order that arrived damaged and was refunded. The other hundred something transactions have been tracked well and timely.
To me that’s a good track record.

      • While I agree with you slightly I also agree with Leaguepass101 slightly. I don't think they deserve to be downvoted to oblivion.

Cashrewards works most of the time but when it doesn't, it can be a real pain waiting for them to sort it out and you have to show a bunch of evidence for making a purchase. It is barely worth the hassle sometimes for that $1.04 cash back you might receive in three months time! It feels like a court case to claim that dollar.

I think the problem happens when you click on a link, say from OzBargain, that has a sale item on a website that also offers a Cashreward. As soon as you click on "Activate Cashrewards" it takes you back to that website homepage and you lose that particular item. Then when you search for that item you somehow lose the Cashrewards activation. Then you make the purchase and no Cashreward has been recorded, a real pain! The only way around it is to make sure you add the item to the shopping cart before pressing on "Activate Cashrewards". Oh, and as I write this I notice my Cashrewards button has disappeared from my browser toolbar?!
I can't see this system working with an in-store purchase?

        • Cashrewards has worked for all of my transactions apart from Expedia (twice) - unsure why but lost out approx $80 worth. Have followed instructions and also sent Expedia follow up emails but get the usual generic responses.

          • @lliw: Accomodation merchants in particular are tricky, mainly because a lot of members use unlisted coupons, click out from 3rd party emails, search TripAdvisor for reviews etc. Google, TripAdvisor, Button etc get more of your affiliate $ than I care to say. This means we miss out on commission, and you miss out on Cashback.

This partially covers it, but there’s just so much more that can apply:

Use of any coupons and/or incentive offers/links/secret prices (including Amex/Mastercard/Visa discounts) will invalidate any cashback and/or any cashback claims, including our cashback guarantee, unless specifically listed on this site.

While I agree with you slightly I also agree with Leaguepass101 slightly. I don't think they deserve to be downvoted to oblivion.

Fair point. But to someone who’s involved in customer service/relation Leaguepass101 comes across as the typical ‘I want to speak to your manager’ type (in-store) and the ‘I never go there because they’re sh!t’ type (social media). Both of which are an absolute pain to deal with and they always come back (despite what they constantly state).

Help the businesses rectify the issues by explaining it with facts instead of hit-n-run one liners, which sound more like you’re just trying to defame said businesses.

P/s: re Cashrewards, I find the following maximises tracking rates:
          - once you’ve decided on what to purchase, close browser completely
          - open new browser, go straight to Cashrewards, don’t open google, facebook etc.
          - open store via Cashrewards, again, don’t open anything else
          - conduct your purchase quickly (ie search for items, add to cart, add applicable vouchers*, check out)
          * If you use vouchers that are not listed on cashrewards, be prepared to have purchases not tracked, although personally I havev’t had any rejections due to this and I’m fairly sure I’ve used unlisted vouchers at times, YMMV
          - once done, close browser completely again before you do anything else

I’m sure some steps are redundant but my tracking rates have been 100% so I’m sticking to them.

          • @zonra: Point taken. But I think a "customer is always right" policy eventually helps the business in the long run, maybe not always in the short term, but I bet it always does in the long run.

This concept occurred to me at McDonalds of all places, you simply say the fries are not hot enough or you're just not happy with an item and they do not hesitate replacing it ASAP with absolutely zero questions asked. While I'm in no way supporting the quality of the food etc. from Macca's I think this model simply works and why they have been successful for so long?

            • @JTTheMan: Disclaimer: I'm not trying to turn this into an argument, but I reckon it's an issue worth discussing, especially with the recent waves of entitled customers threads.

But I think a "customer is always right" policy eventually helps the business in the long run, maybe not always in the short term, but I bet it always does in the long run.

The actual long term result is that all other customers end up paying more.
For the McDonalds analogy, the free replacement fries are being paid for by the other customers.
I have seen serial abusers across multiple businesses that I both work or frequent at.

Some examples off the top of my head:
              - People who constant leave bad feedback on KFC, Dominos, Hungry Jacks etc. facebook pages in hope of getting free vouchers (sadly it works)
              - People who will always find things to complain about a service (e.g. haircuts, meals etc.) and then blatantly ask for discounts. I have worked in a small business where the owner had to specifically ask one customer to never come back (due to her refusal to pay multiple times, citing a bad job yet keep coming back). The customer disappeared for a while but eventually came back after a a few month, obviously having done a round across multiple shops doing the same thing.

The customers are not always right, there was a recent thread where customer went in store and signed for a phone contract, went home, opened it up, changed their mind and came back asking for exchange, saying that staff didn't read the contract out loud (or something to that extent, we only got half the story). It's easy to absorb the cost of 2-3 serving of fries a day, but each and every $1000+ customer-is-always-right cost will be passed right onto other customers.

              TL;DR
It's naive to think businesses absorb losses into their profits, they simply pass it onto other customers and their staff (probably more on the former).

              • @zonra: No worries, I respect your opinion and acknowledge there are some bad, very bad, customers!
I guess there is always the exception that proves the rule?
I don't know enough about business to comment really but I guess small businesses are a lot more vulnerable to these stresses than big businesses like McDonald's, Coles, Woolworths etc. It's a shame that's the way the world is.

    • My Lifetime Rewards = $850.72
and I am not a big spender.
and I sometime forgot to use cashrewards link.

  • I am not sure I want to link my Visa card to cash rewards. I guess I will have to pass on the deal.

    • +5

Hi, you have nothing to be concerned about. Your Visa details are not captured or stored by Cashrewards. Your card details are encrypted, captured and stored by Visa alone from your secure browser session, and we do not pass this back to our system. Once your card is linked, Visa then sends us the last 4 digits for reference. Hope this helps.

      • +1

        Yes it does. Thank you

  • +2

TA, is the David Jones Canberra Centre store included in this deal?

It is not listed (or the Woden, ACT store) on the participating stores list

    • +5

We've sent an email to DJs hoping they will add these tonight, but until such time we get an update, it's limited to these 41 stores. If we hear back, I will definitely let you know. Thanks.

    • Store added. See my comment here…

  • Hi TA, can you please confirm this is valid at all David Jones stores as the post states?

Specifically I was interested in David Jones Adelaide City Store - as it is not listed as a participating store on the Cashrewards website.

    • LOL just read the comment JUST above you

    • Hi Eddie. I updated the post some 10 minutes ago for clarity. I've also supplied a screenshot of the 41 stores. Hope this helps :)

      • +1

Thanks TA, saw you replied before I posted my comment!

        • Not a worry. And apologies for not making this clear from the outset. Have a great weekend!

          • @tightarse: Interesting that the Perth City store is also not on the list.

            • @marketingpolice: There's 5 stores we believe that are yet to be added to the program. DJs and Visa will hopefully activate these in the next week or so.

            • @marketingpolice: Store added. See my comment here…

        • All stores now. See my comment here…

  • Does DJ sell spring water?

    • In the Foodhall, yes

      Source: worked there

  • +2

Is there a way to automatically opt in to all in-store offers?

    • +1

Unfortunately no. Once you activate an offer, it remains active for 30 days. So it's best to check and activate offers as you need them, as terms could change between activations. Hope this makes sense :)

  • You've mentioned that apple pay etc works but in my case I once linked my card with a Forever new in-store deal but used Google pay to pay for it and I never got cash back. I then had a word with a customer rep and she mentioned that paying via google pay doesn't work. Can you please clarify. Thanks.

    • Hi rkuk85. Confirmation that both Apple Pay & Google Pay work provided the card linked via Cashrewards is the same card linked on your mobile device (not a secondary card etc). We've had instances where members have linked a partner's Visa on Cashrewards but paid with a device that had their Visa details stored, so in effect they were different cards. This will not work, and your purchase will not track.

      • Thanks for that but in my case I had linked the physical credit card where as when you pay via Google/apple pay, you get a virtual card number which differs from the numbers on your physical card. I don't know if this creates a problem at your end with respect to tracing cash back since the numbers differ.

        • I don't know if this creates a problem at your end with respect to tracing cash back since the numbers differ.

Definitely not, as the virtual number is matched against the associated physical card by Visa. Cashrewards is not involved in the tracking process. Visa does the lot once your details are scanned into the merchant terminal.

          • @tightarse: Thanks bud. I have emailed back the rep to assist me with the cashback since she mentioned the usage of Google pay for an in-store purchase as not an eligible transaction for cashback. If you could help me with it, will be great. The reference no is 236073. Thanks

I wonder what the cheapest item in store is. Do they sell chocolate? Maybe some old Easter or Mother’s Day stock…

    • +1

Yes, in their confectionery department but it ain't cheap (especially if it's stuff like Lindt; stick to the supermarket)

  • It's taking ages for offer activation (David Jones)

  • -3

Should I trust Cashrewards by giving them credit card details? Probably not worth the risk for $5+7%. It’s just me though.

    $5 spend in a department store…

  • SA Adelaide city store is excluded?

    • Store added. See my comment here…

  • Sorry TA, a dumb question: are we able to link multiple Visa cards to one Cashrewards account?

    • Yes you can.

  • Is it just about activating the 7% off offer and that enrolls you for the $5 back?

    • Yes, that’s correct.

  • Ok. So this weekend there is a new competition to find the cheapest item at your nearest David Jones store…

  • TA, I have a CR question. I have changed my email address, and for the life of me I cannot find a way to let CR know I have done this. I have tried the online send a message thingy,, though no luck. Any tips on how how I can do this? Regards, Zonbie, a happy CR person/member

    • +1

Hi zonbie. Best way is to email us at [email protected] from your new email address so we can swap you over. Please quote the old address in the email. There’s a couple of security steps to go through to protect your acct obviously. Or simply PM me and I’ll sort it out tomorrow for you :)

  • Hi, I activated the instore cashback last week before this offer popped up. I see it’s still activated. Does this mean I only get 7% cashback and no $5? Thanks

    • +1

Hi. This is fine. You will get both provided the purchase is made today or tomorrow.

  • Sensory lab coffee in Melb CBD store

  • I tried to check but couldn't not find it. Is this offer limit 1 per card or limit 1 per cashrewards account?

    • +1

      It’s in the OP:

Strictly limited to 1x $5 bonus per Cashrewards account.

      • +1

        Sorry completely missed that.

      • Thanks TA got 7 % cashback showing in my account straight away. Do I need to wait for 14 days for bonus $5 cashback. Is that correct?

        • +2

As per the OP, all $5 bonuses will be added this week :)

The $5 bonus is valid only for transactions made Saturday May 18 and Sunday May 19 at any David Jones store nationally. The $5 will be credited to your Cashrewards account no later than 14 days from time of purchase.

  • +1

@tightarse linked my visa card this morning and purchase one $2.07 Mini Tongs at DJ Westfield hornsby. But I only received tracking email instantly for the item I purchased (7%), no for the $5 offer, also I cannot find this in-store $5 offer on CR website, would we be able to get any tracking email for this $5 offer?

    • Please see OP:

The $5 will be credited to your Cashrewards account no later than 14 days from time of purchase.

And you won’t find the offer advertised on CR as it’s an OzB special :)

    • Thanks for the purchase idea mate, I even got it with a 30% discount on kitchen ware!

  • Your Visa card must be an Australian issued card. This includes (but is not limited to) Visa Credit cards, Visa Debit cards and Visa Pre-paid cards. Visa-branded gift cards or cards that have expired, have been cancelled or are otherwise invalid, are not eligible.

Hi TA, would Visa stored value card like the Velocity Global Wallet eligible for this offer?

  • Hi, can I still have $5 credit if I buy DJ giftcards?

    • Unfortunately no. As per the terms for this store:

Cashback is ineligible on the purchase of Gift Cards.

      • Thanks. I have tried to link cards but the website won't load to next page.

        • Tested and works fine at my end. Please try a different browser, or via our CR App.

  • Once the $5 is credited, anyone knows how long to wait before it can be withdrawn?

  • is dj sydney market st count? bought a snack at food court downstair but didn't get confirmation of the purchase.

    • +1

Same here. Bought some stuff at DJ store which is on the list of participating stores yesterday. No confirmation and no tracking on CR account. It would be helpful to everyone that the Rep clarifies if we should expect any confirmation/tracking as part of the crediting process for this offer.

      • Provided you first activated the offer, tracking for the actual purchase at 7% cashback is pretty close to instant around 90% of the time. Strangely, delays can occur when merchants use the same bank as your Visa card, as there is no priority for Visa to cross-check details immediately. Under these situations, tracking can take up to 14 days.

As for the $5 bonus, it’s slready been clarified in the OP. Thanks.

The $5 will be credited to your Cashrewards account no later than 14 days from time of purchase.

        • +1

Thanks. Visa card was linked and activated offer on Friday and made purchase on Saturday. I'm using a different bank from the merchant. Yet no tracking on my CR account. Not looking good at all.

          • @F1ngolf: Hi F1ngolf, please see here as the same may apply to you. Thanks!

            • +1

@tightarse: Hi TA, thanks for your prompt pro-active help in sorting the missing cash back following my PM. All good now and have a wonderful week! Cheers.

    • Yes, Market St is on the list. Please see my response here re tracking, provided you first activated the offer.

  • If I do a split payment with 2 visas linked to 2 CR accounts (me and partners'), will each of us get the $5 cash back?

    • No. Each purchase must be paid in full with the matching linked Visa. No split payments.

  • +1

Hey TA. I linked my visa card and activated the offer on Friday.
I made a purchase at DJs Chatswood yesterday (sat).
No tracking yet of any sort.
Wouldnt have bought anything if not for this offer :(

    • Hi. Did you read this above? Also, please note that in-store tracking is totally different to affiliate tracking via cookies. As long as you linked your card, activated the offer, and purchased with the same card, Visa will track your purchase to your Cashrewards account.

      • So do we still wait for 14 days to see if CB tracking shows up despite following the instructions of the offer?

      • Thanks. Will wait the 14 days.

        • All good now TA, thanks!

  • +5

Hi all. Unfortunately, we've just been informed that transactions below $2 for DJs in-store will not report automatically to us by Visa. We've had hundreds of successful transactions made over the weekend above this amount, so a flag was raised when we noticed none reported below $2.

But don't worry, we're here to sort it out right away for you.

Please PM me your CR email address and your purchase invoice (upload to OzB / My Account / Files / copy URL), and provided I confirm the offer was activated prior to purchase with the same linked Visa card, I will credit $5.14 right away ($5 bonus and $0.14 for the full 7% on $2). Alternatively, send invoice via our support desk at [email protected] and the team will action ASAP.

Thank you, and apologies for this.

    • What about tracking for amounts over $2? I activated on Friday and shopped on Saturday and nothing is being tracked on my account on cash rewards. Do I wait the required 14 days before emailing support with the receipt?

      • Yes please. As an FYI, please note we’ve had quite a few instances of members failing to actually activate the offer, which would obviously exclude them from this deal.

    • +1

Big thanks TA, you sorted out the $2 threshold issue for me and I can now see the funds approved in my CR account. Legend!
