  • Thanks OP, just bought one.

  • Which one is better? Green/purple?

    • My understanding is if you suffer from allergies due to airborne particulates such as dustmites then the purple filter is the better pick. If you want to eliminate odors as well then the green filter is the better choice as it has the carbon filter.

I don't have real world experience to confirm.

Purple filter has a higher RRP than the green one $62 vs $54.

      • What got me onto this is when I was at my mates place a while back… I noticed no "man smell"

If you're a single male, your apartment smells.

        He had a standard filter,

So I am curious how much odor the green one would remove

        • Maybe your mate had a side chick come over and clean up once or twice a week…

      • All three versions have carbon filters.

    • Green is thicker but doesn't have the anti bac for some reason. So neither is definitive. If you have allergies and hay fever, get the purple. But Green normally costs more.

Thanks OP, made my blue filters last as long as possible (vacuum/blow with compressed air every 6 months) but after a couple of years definitely due for replacements now.

    • Did you disassemble it to do that, or just vacuumed from the outside?

      • Vacuum outside of filter, then use compressed air to blow from inside out.

  • Anyone knows if this is any different from the original one that was included as part of the Xiaomi 2S unit ?

  • Dang, I have a Vornado, I'd forgotten.

    • What does that do with it

  • Just bought the green one. Damn cheap!

    • Been this price since December last year.

does this work well for odours such as after smell from food preparation?

  • Thanks OP bought 2.

These air purifiers are a complete waste of time and are based on hoax science! (Keep reading…)

Is often what I get told…

My thoughts? Based on the power consumption of the device (some of mine are in the region of 10w) and the fact that if there is crap in the air, the filter will collect it, if not… it won't… if it doesn't collect the crap then I won't have to change the filter as often!

Basically I have a really cool fan and the fact that it DOES collect crap that hangs in the air… well…

I've been using an air purifier for about 13 years and couldn't do without one now! The biggest problem is managing airflow vs noise!

    Great deal op!

why the (profanity) would you need a formaldehyde filter?

    • +1

Are your neighbours polluting the air with wood fires?

      Formaledhyde.

      And harmful particles.

Large numbers of people die every year from car exhaust pollution at the levels deemed as safe.

    • Pretty common in construction products.

    • Living in China. :D

    • I built my bedslats out of wood from Bunnings.

    • Well if you're working near a morgue or anatomy lab the smell gets pretty pervasive.. in your home I'm going to say "pseudo-quackery".

  • Both these filters fit all Xiaomi Air Purifier models, right?

  • Has anyone with allergy to dustmites tried the purple filter before - wondering if it lives up to the claim that it can remove/kill them…?

  • They are sold out

  • Damn, no more.

  • Is it suitable for Mi Air Purifier 2S?

Amazon Aus got the purple one for $36.23 wtih free Delivery

    • That’s other brand mate not the original brand

  • These things are big.

How do you guys dispose of them? Do you just throw it in the bin, or is there a recycling program? Seems awfully wasteful.

    • good question - anyone know

I just vacuum mine and wash mine then reuse

      • Does the filter % indicator get updated accordingly when you do that?

I tried vacuuming the outside once which was dusty, and gave me maybe 4-6% more filter life.

        • yeah but i also used a wet paper napkin and wiped it as the vaccum didnt seem to get everything

It makes the light green again for another few month or 2 :p

I am literally cleaning the actual filter inside

          • @AussieMark: green light? Do you mean the line below the PM2.5 reading? I think that's an indication of the quality of the air.

            • @lostn: the light goes red when its time to change the filter i believe

But perhaps we have different machines

        • I'm not sure which unit you have, but on my v2 Purifier I think the filter info is all time based.
After vacuuming the filter out I reset the counter and it shows as a new filter.

The LED changes colour according to the PM2.5 rating, and also turns red once filter is at end of life according to the app.

          • @bamzero: Oh sorry I think you're right

I remember reading how you reset the light
PS got an email at 1am saying it's back in stock

            Still no stock though lol

            • @AussieMark: Antibacterial was back with low stock for a short time, for some reason promo code box wouldn't show for it though. Eventually it worked, nek minute out of stock again.

          • @bamzero: Vacuuming the filter did not treat it as a new filter in my 2S.

It did increase the remaining % of the filter life indicator though. So it is getting a reading of the filter somehow.

            • @lostn: You need to manually reset it when you install a new filter. From memory just hold the button on the back for a few seconds (or can do it in the app I think)

              • @bamzero: I didn't have to.

When I replaced my 0% filter with a brand new filter, it automatically went to 100%. If I simply cleaned it, I only gain a few %.

I don't use the app because I'm having trouble getting it connected.

                • @lostn: Ah you must have a 2S? They have an NFC reader to know when the filter is changed don't they? Not sure how cleaning it would affect the reading though.

I just have the 2, all manual.

                  • @bamzero: Yes I have 2S.

I don't know how they detect it, but when the same filter is reinserted, it knows it's not a new filter. I think it must have some sensors in there if it knows that after I vacuumed the outside of the filter, it's a bit cleaner than before.

Personally, just being able to maintain the old percentage is better than it resetting to 100% when you reinsert it. It seems the 2S is a little bit more "smart".

                    • @lostn: The 2S filters have an RFID tag on the bottom. Apparently you can block the tag with a few layers of aluminium foil and manually reset if you get annoyed with it pestering you about an expired filter (though since you're not using the app probably not such a big deal.)

              • @bamzero: Yeah this what I did
