Great price. Great phone. Wonder why they are dropping price so quickly!

    • +23

because its been 2 years already. and second its LG

    • +6

LG doesn't advertise its phones as much as Apple and Samsung do.

No advertising = no one knows about them = not "fashionable" enough for the youngsters = price drops to clear excess stock.

Having said that, LG probably saves a bucket-load of cash by not competing in advertising.

      • +2

Also Samsung and Apples repair/warranty costs are built into the RRP.

  • +18

    <$400 please. ThinQ.

    • I see what you done there. +1 vote for sure

    • -1

it is the ThinQ or at least that what it tells me when its booting.

Its a great phone at this price, unfortunately I paid $4 more for mine from the JB HiFi deal.

  • +3

Would happily take this over my Nokia 8, because everyone tells me the Dac is better.

    • +4

      It is. Best on market.

      • -1

It is the best with the camera quality?

        • +1

          No.

        • +4

Install Google Cam from XDA (software ported from the Pixel, super easy to do) and it's right up there.

(Camera quality is mostly software these days, the hardware sensors are largely the same).

          Amazing phone.

      • +1

But how accurately and intelligently can it create the analogue signal?

It surely must interpolate to smooth the signal. Just guessing here. Not an expert.

      • +1

I'm feeling like the bit rate or sampling rate has a role to play here.

But I don't even know if I'm using those terms right so… Harsh downvotes I feel for you dude.

      • +7

        This is so breathtakingly wrong.

All you have to do is listen a bunch of different external DACs with the same headphones and you will notice differences between them.

Will any old DAC produce sound? Yes. Will it still sound good with audiophile grade headphones? No. That's why audiophiles buy portable amps. But the DAC/AMP combo in LG's V series is good enough that you don't need one.

If you're just using the pack-in earbuds, it's the DAC is not a big deal to you.

        If you can't tell apart a $2000 DAC/AMP and a $2 one, you're either deaf or trolling.

      • Why do you spew such utter garbage misinformation?

      • Maybe read about this DAC to understand what it does.
Here's the ESS SABRE DAC details (the one in the v30)

        http://www.esstech.com/index.php/en/products/sabre-digital-a…

      • Yeah, not sure you know what you're on about.

  • better deal with jb before. $400/$500 gift card + $45 per month/12months plan

    • Edit: got it. You're right

    • When did that deal pop up was it on OzB?

      • Yea have the same question

    • $500 gc for a $540 plan, post link

lg phone have bad photo quality …

    • +1

Speaking from experience or simply parroting what you read online?

And are you talking about this model in particular or an LG phone you owned 7 years ago? Are the cameras bad, the software, or both?

The LG V series of smartphones has always been for those who want a phone that is a photo, video, and audio powerhouse. Now in its third iteration, LG aims to achieve that goal once again by refining its recipe even further.

Bit strange for a V-series phone to go against what it was designed for…

      • +1

hmm don't know about that. I have been disappointed with my V30, with its camera. Avergae over exposed pictures and no compatibility with snapchat and Instagram. Not worth it.

        • Look on dxomark …

          • @TheFrenchie: What do you mean? u called them bad and i agreed from personal experience

          • @TheFrenchie: Much better than the older LG G4 which people raved about but I found noisy and horrible when taking backlit images.

The speaker isn't as good as the G4.

My G4 is still alive but since they updated to Android 6 battery life was always bad and now is really bad on the 2 batteries I own. Which is why I bought the V30+.

I'm willing to concede that the newer Pixel and Samsung phones might have better batteries but that's not worth hundreds of dollars. If I want decent images I grab a DSLR.

        • Huh? I just opened instagram and used the camera in Instagram on my V30+? I didn't post it because it was garbage and I hate the Instagram format.

  • I heard the oled screen of this model is bad?

    • Similar to google pixel 2, same Oled display, at certain angle there is blue tint.

    • I have had one for about a year. I am not fussy about the screen so haven't had any issues. Great battery life.

    • +1

The screen is awesome. The initial review batch was bad (as reported by all the articles you may read) but they genuinely fixed it for retail.

I'm a screen perfectionist - the V30 is really good and doesn't exhibit any of the complaints the reviews were fixated on. Zero muddiness. Slight blue cast at extreme angles is all I can neg it on - not a deal breaker in the slightest.

  • Is this AU version or international?

    • +5

100% Au Version, 2 years LG official warranty and price inc GST. Thanks!

      • Can I buy it from Ebay and pick up in your store / Order from the store at the same price?

        • +1

Yes you can pickup from our Parramatta store. Thanks!

  • This or Pixel 3a?

    • The downside of pixel 3a is the body is plastic and issue with software was reported (shut-down bug). I'd choose 3a with JB $100 offer if you trade your old smart phone though.

      • +4

        No expandable SD card either.

I’d go with pixel 3a for latest software update and awesome gcam.

    • i'd like a Pixel 3a. Simply because my v30 doesn't get updates, plus it has horrible camera quality in snapchatand instagram

      • +2

Update this Monday and one before two month ago. On the way to Android P and this phone gets Q. Dont know what you are on about. If you are unhappy with this phone, I honestly don't know what will satisfy you.

Personally hate the Pixel phones, Google software is just terrible.

        • Mind you i did pay full price for this thing.
Android P has been out almost a year now, right? I've barely gotten any security updates.
Ultimately this phone has good hardware, let down by poor software. like regular and timely updates would be nice, and something similar to Pixel visual core would be awesome.
Tbh i should of got the s8 or pixel 2xl instead of this.

    • +5

      Pixel 3a over LG v30+
      smaller,
      lighter,
      better main camera
      better selfie camera
      more up to date OS.

      LG v30+ over Pixel 3a
      Water resistance
      Wide angle camera
      Wireless charging
Quality DAC and amp for high end headphone
      SD Card Expansion
      Dual SIM
      Higher resolution screen
      Daydream VR compatible
      128GB UFS 2.1 storage
UFS 2.1 storage faster than EMMC in Pixel 3a

Regarding Updates, my LG v30 has had 4 in the year I have owned it, two so far this year and it is slated for a Pie update after Q2 this year.

    • GCam works reasonably well on this. This processor might just edge it, too.

Couple that with vastly superior audio quality and SD card slot, this gets the tick for me.

The OS is stable, but not current. It just got the April 2019 security patches, too.

    • Isnt the Pixel 3A $100 more?

  • Its not coming $433 for me. I understand I will get only 10% since I am not ebay Plus member but its coming as $458 + $15 shipping. Is something wrong here?

    • +1

Checks out - 509.80 minus 10% makes sense to me unless my maths is borked

      • +2

Humpda has spoked.. and no, your maths not broked

      • +1

Yes but the description says delivered. Is it true just for ebay Plus Members? Thx

        • yes- I believe so.
          you can get free trial

  • what's a non-crappy screen protector for this?

    • And a non-crappy case? :)

    • +1

Also, do any of you guys know of a decent 15w wireless charger stand that would work with this phone?

    • +1

I got a SPIGEN case off ebay as a case but the screen protector is impossible to choose. The only one I've seen is the full military style case off ebay from the other V30 thread last week.

    • I bought a Spigen Dual Layer Neo Hybrid cover for my V30+ on eBay. Fits well. Wouldn't call it bulky but I'm sure there are thinner cases out there.

    • +1

I got Akcoo 3D Curved Tempered Glass liquid full glue from Aliexpres. Best thing. Little fiddly to apply, but not bad. Fits nicely.

      • I have fitted four of these now - they look great on the phone.

    • I got rid of my screen protector on the LG G4 on the assumption that it wasn't going to last anyway. It has lasted but also no scratches and much more pleasant to use, so I've decided to do the same with this phone. As for cases, I'm still looking for one I like but have a "temporary" wallet style ebay job that's likely to end up being my permanent solution because cases are harder to come by for this phone and I haven't found anywhere I can buy in person to try different ones.

  • +1

Great deal. I'd get this if I hadn't bought a Nokia 8 seven months ago. Have been enjoying Android Pie for a while

    • What could you possibly be enjoying on Pie that you couldn't already do on Oreo? I'm genuinely curious. Nobody I asked can give any sort of meaningful answer to this question

      • Did u ask google? Android pie vs oreo, first results seems to give u indepth of the differences. I didnt read i could be wrong.

      • -1

May as well downgrade to android 4.0 Jellybean. I'm sure it does everything oreo does too.

Actually let's not stop there, lets go to 1.5 cupcake. I can text and make calls on that too just like oreo!

      • Its a well needed overhaul…
for starters it provides a more update and pleasing ui. Digital wellbeing to monitor phone useage, nightlight, dark theme, battery manager/doze improvements, gestures, updated app API's for many things, recent apps, volume ui.

  • Isn't the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE a better phone? It is around the same price

    • Might be cut off from Android updates in the next Trump move so maybe not better.

    • The Mi 9 SE (or the Pixel 3a for that matter) does not have the Wireless charging, water resistance, or SD card that the v30 has.
Also, Mi 9 SE also missing a headphone jack

      https://www.kimovil.com/en/compare/google-pixel-3a,lg-v30,xi…

      • Still, the processor is 2 generations older and has less RAM. What do you think of the Galaxy S8? Even cheaper than the v30+ both same specs. I am looking to upgrade asap as my galaxy s6 edge died and currently using a galaxy S2 which can't run anything except for calls and camera

        • marginal difference in processor, not the same specs as the v30+ has 128gb, and the s8 doesn't sound as good as the v30. Photo quality about the same using gCam. So it's only a question of price and preferences?

        • +1

I have a v30 and my mum has an s8. The v30 is nicer hardware wise i think BUT trust me. The s8 works waayyy better with the new pie update it got. Way better ui, performances, camera is more reliable and works better in insta and snapchat, and dont get me started on the battery, it last a fair bit longer.
Both were bought within a similar time period.

          • @[Deactivated]: Thanks for that. So after all I guess the S8 is a better buy and a bit cheaper too. So many phones these days to chose from. I wish it was simple as Nokia or Ericsson back in the days

            • @Winston100s: Where do you get a s8 with local factorywarranty for under $433?
I was tossing up between a refurb s8+ and the lg and there was at least 150 difference at the time. Appreciate the s8 has dropped in that time whilst the lg has actually increased!

  • Does anyone know how to become ebay Plus member for free and then cancel after this deal is availed?

  • +1

Can any one comment on its comparison with another ozb regular phone Xiaomi mi mix2?

  • Picked up a brand new sealed S9 for $550 yesterday - I am as happy as a pig in sh!t !!!!!

Just need to find a decent case that gives best edge protection and preferably magnetic back for car holder.

    • gumtree?

    • it usually comes with the case - which has been good to me.

    • Where can I get an S9 for $550, can you share the link? Thanks.

    • +1

Hi all, it was just a random seller on FB, a lady who had an upgrade where optus screwed them, its awesome, very happy with it, upgrade from S7 Edge.

Regarding case, im hunting down a 360 case or a decent tempered glass protector. THe free one is fine but doesnt offer enough protection for my liking.

  • Im currently using a google nexus 5X. Its getting quite slow and Im feeling its time for an upgrade.
Ive had my eye on this and the huawei pocophone, but after some consideration I think this takes the cake

Im keen on the tough design, the DAC, and apparently good battery. Dont have much care for cameras and Im quite a light phone user (the occasional game), so dont think I need the extra RAM and processing power in the poco.

My one concern though; will this phone, being two years old, last another 3 or so years? Hardware wise and update wise (or whatever makes a phone slow over time) Im keen on getting a good phone which will last. My google nexus 5x has done the job

EDIT i purchased the google nexus 5X about 2 years ago, even then it was a few years old. But alas its still kicking. Im hoping for a similar life span

    • -1

jump before it gets looped. there are thousands of threads who are having these issues

      • my galaxy s6 edge got looped a couple of days ago on it's own.

        • My Nexus 6P looped a week ago.. using my nexus 5 atm. Looking for a budget phone to use temporarily..

    • If you are buying this phone which is an old phone, maybe you should also consider the S8 which has the same specs at least on paper. I am after a new phone and I am leaning towards xiami mi 9 se, doesn't have water proofing or wireless charging which isn't quite an issue for me.

    • as i said above the s8 would be genuinely better in the long run. Unless maybe the v30 got updated to pie anytime soon.

  • Audio people who really need a new phone should consider the V30+. Those tempted by the dac but have an otherwise good phone should consider a usb dac stick. My Nokia 8 sounds horrid. However, with a $120 Dragonfly v1.5 usb stick using bypass mode in UsB Audio Player Pro, different story. USB dac is cheaper option for those who already bought the Nokia. Dac is also transferable to other devices and hopefully durable for long use on future devices. There must be cheaper alternatives than the Dragonfly that work on Android. I got a great sounding $40 one (specs: SA9023A+ ES9018K2M+ TPA6113A2) from ebay which sadly won't work on Android (hopefully Audio Player Pro people will sort this but they're not sounding interested atm).

  • +1

Thanks OP…Finally made decision to jump on the deal.

  • +1

I got one from last deal for $448.
I went to JB and showed the ozbargain screen and they matched the price.
    Battery is so good.
Camera is good. I love the earphone hole with the quality earphones that came together. Unexpectedly it has a radio too. Perfect for my age.^^
Fast booting and perform very well.
It was a very good decision to buy this phone from galaxy note after a few years of enjoying.

  • +2

I grabbed a V30 Plus from a previous deal and loved it. Unfortunately, mine was stolen last week and I have two cases (Nilkin hard case and an Incipio Octane model) here going to waste. Anyone interested in them? Just pay shipping. Send me a PM if you are interested.

  • This phone (V30) or the Nokia 7 Plus that is on sale at Harvey Norman for 420 ish (less with Amex)? Both 6 inch phones, Snpadragon 660 on Nokia v 835 on V30, but Android One so more reliable updates. Not sure which camera is better?
