Telstra $45pm for 12m with 50GB & $200 JB Gift Card or $65pm for 24m with 80GB & $300/$500 Credit for Phone Purchase @ JB Hi-Fi

1060

I know this has been available before, but it's back again. Might be worth asking if you can get a $10 port in discount again.

I have been waiting for this one, but also considering Boost. This deal is better for me as I want the extra data, not the international calls. No idea of expiry date.

*Available to port-in customers and new Telstra customers only. Excludes Telstra Pre-Paid, Boost and Belong customers. Minimum cost $540. Offer not in conjunction with any other offer. For terms & conditions visit www.jbhifi.com.au/telstra-terms.

  • Pretty sure someone mentioned Telstra is bringing out new mobile plan offerings during June. Might sit this one out for now.

  • I was in JB last week and purchased a new iPhone XR and bloke tried to offer me the plan but I said no thanks as I needed to spend money for tax time, he was telling me that the old offer use to be port ins and new customers only but as of two weeks ago it is now open to upgrades(as I was already with Telstra BYO)

    • This was at JB Shellharbour.

Got this done today at JB and talked with a rep Online for the $10 credit a month. Took about 15 mins overall.

Take this with a grain of salt but the rep mentioned the port in deal ends on the 24th June, not sure how believable it is.

They also mentioned that the $10 credit monthly is per ported sim and not per account

Someone mentioned on the old thread that the $45/$65 deals expire at the end of this month.

Including the JB giftcard it works out to be $220 for 12 months, pretty hard to beat with 50GBs a month

    • Hi Would you mind to tell which JB branch?

  • +1

I'm on the $49 20GB deal, which expires in 59 days, I contacted Telstra and they indicated it'll cost me $71 to break my contract, so as far as i can see i come out ahead as this deal will cost me $60 less over the 12 months and be an extra 30gb. Assuming that i can port out and back in in a few days. This would work for me. Thanks!

  • I went to JB store in Springvale IKEA today for $45/month to get 200$ they didn’t agree to give $10 discount of port in. Also I chat with Telstra online chats they not agree to give $10 discount as well they ask me to ask discount from the JB store.

Who know how should I do to get $10 discount for port in please?

    • If anyone, it would be Telstra via live chat. Keep trying. But there is no gurantee.

  • Don't know why so many are after this deal, yeah I know 'gift card' but Telstra have the $49/month 60GB plan available online still. Also, was on this deal last year with JB's, but there was noticeable throttling compared to being on a straight Telstra plan. Know that people will deny it, but the speed drop is what made me go back to Telstra.

    • Where? All I see is $59/m with 60GB (normally $69/m).

      • It's an online plan only. Telstra chat 24/7.

    • Noticeable throttling?

      First I’ve heard of that.

      Got any hard evidence?
      Tested on multiple occasions?

      • I remember reading somewhere that it was confirmed by a Telstra engineer that there was no throttling for customers who are contracted directly to telstra. But there was for MVNOs since they can actually segregate those customers.

Since this plan is actually directly contracted to Telstra then there should be no throttling. From previous posts for JB Hifi Telstra plans, there were customers who managed to get upto 410Mb/33Mb. If there was throttling then i doubt they would be able to achieve that.

He probably doesn't know that bandwidth is shared depending on how many people are logged in within that area / tower.

        • "He probably doesn't know that bandwidth is shared depending on how many people are logged in within that area / tower." Actually I do know that.

As to evidence, it was multiple tests with Speed Testers, also the Ping was way off, large singular downloads were slowing right down, which is how I noticed it in the first place and why I eventually contacted Telstra over it.

Considering I was getting throttled at 20MBPs spot on, each time throttling activated, you can see a pattern develop quite easily.

And FYI, Telstra weren't the least bit interested in availing me of any info as to whether it was Tower congestion or JB's being a third party.

At the end of the day, I'd say it was Tower congestion however, I don't ever have the same problem now back as a direct Telstra customer.

          • @jonkvh: Damn, that’s really interesting…
I’m probably gonna hold of going for this deal then.
            Thanks for the good info.

    • If you get the online $49 deal can you then get the $10 discount?

      • No discount I'm afraid. It's already discounted. This is the deal (expired) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/458167

It only went for a few days but I managed to sign up people onto this via 24/7 Chat well after it expired.

Basically I'm saying, I'm a little against JB's for phone plans, considering that the gift card really isn't free, as I found out in the end, and JB's have setup an internal call centre to handle phone plan sign up's, the name of which I can't remember. I'm friendly with some of the staff at the local store. So I've heard first hand how bad it can be signing people up over the phone in store for staff. It all comes down to whether the store manager makes the staff use the call centre or not. In the early days 1-2 hours wasn't unheard of for signups via their call centre…

As I said try 24/7 Chat. I was helping people sign up on it nearly 2 months after it ended.

  • Just spoke with telstra 24/7 chat and after explaining the whole situation and attempting to verify whether they would honour the port in bonus, they responded by saying that since JB Hifi is a partner only they can not alter the JB plan. Therefore, no port in bonus could be applied. They said that they could only offer 24/7 deals which did not apply to the $45/month JB deal

I am extremely interested in this deal WITH the port in bonus as it would take the cost down to equal to what I now pay with optus, plus I would receive the gift card.

From what Ive read here it seems like others have successfully had 24/7 chat representatives apply the port in bonus. Has anyone had the port in bonus added to the $45 deal specifically? Was she essentially lying by saying she couldn't do it?

    • She probably wasn’t lying, per se, it’s more likely in my mind that they may have targets to meet, and perhaps each operator has the ability to alter plans to meet targets?

That is absolutely complete conjecture, I have no idea about how it works, but if some operators do and some don’t I doubt that the ones who do would be risking their jobs to sign people up for Telstra contracts unless Telstra Corp allowed them the leeway to do it officially.

I don't bother with arguing with them. If they say no, i just close the chat window and start a new one, until they give it to me. Persistence pays out in this case.

Keep trying. I got it with the $45 plan. Took about 6 times on my second service tho before I got someone to do it. By the way, don't use the Telstra app to chat. I did that and they can see what you've last chatted about. So they'll just say no.

  • Just letting others thinking about trying to get the extra $10 port in credit. It took me about an hour before I got someone that could do it.
The others said its a different system and they can't apply the credit. So good luck and keep trying.

  • Does anyone know if the $45 plan includes 13, 1300, 1800 numbers etc in their unlimited calls

  • Got a slight variation of this yesterday: 60GB/month for $65/month on a 12 month contract. Used the $500 credit to buy an S10+ which was on sale yesterday for $1199, so only paid $699 for the phone. Just now managed to get Telstra Chat to apply the $10 port-in discount to my account, bringing it down to $55/month. Not bad!

    • You got $500 credit towards a phone on a 12 month? I thought it was 24 months??

      • The JB sales rep told me that they'd dropped it to 12 months. Not sure if it was just for yesterday, might be worth checking. It's only 60GB of data vs the 80GB that is advertised with the 24m plan, more than enough for me though.

Edit: looks like they've given me this deal, but combined it with $500 credit on the S10+ instead of the S10e: https://imgur.com/a/eN2pHsT

        • Which would be $300 credit towards the s10e since its valued less than $1000 by a dollar right?

Working out the cheapest way to get the missus a s10e, both our plans are up so figured if we both got the 12 month deal $200 credit we'd get $400 off and decent plans if we both got the $10 port credit.

Edit: Just saw the $400 for the s10e with the $65/month for 12 months. works out to be $31/month if you value the phone for $800 which is good! Lets hope porting now I can get in on the weekend.

        • Where did you get that picture from?
          Is it an online catalogue?

  • I was able to get the $10 discount applied on my first try with web chat. The app chat rejected me straight away however the web chat guy did me a solid and said that it usually isn't allowed but he got it approved. My advice is just be polite and patient some staff will go the extra bit and give it to you.

    • Hey mate, do mind telling me how did you ask exactly on the chat?

      Any tips please ??

      • +3

Here is my convo if you are interested https://pastebin.com/ct9AQwdM. my tip is be nice and ask once. you dont need to push just move on and hope the next person on the chat is able to do it for ya.

        • +2

Thanks mate, appreciate your help. I followed your instructions and guess what, I got it applied by the first reps I chat to. She also sent me confirmation email.

So will be paying $18.33/pm effectively after the $200 JB GC

  • Hi, i ported out of telstra about a week ago to voda prepaid. Went instore to re-sign up to this deal and they guy called someone maybe telstra?? to do this but they advised i can’t do this as i have been with voda for 1 week and need to wait 30days. How have people managed to port in and out all in one day?? Any tricks that anyone can pass along?

    • They didn't call telstra, They called "Jb Connect Team" basically its a team which performs the connection/port over the phone.
Some stores perform the connection directly on the PC without going through JB Connect and those ones who do it directly in store doesn't bother checking for the 1month thing.

      Try another store.

  • Guys.

is that possible to add $10 unlimited International call pack to any of the JB HIFI telstra plan (45 or 65) ?

    • The $10 daily plan with 200MB/day data? Yeah it's turned on by default on the one I just ported.

    • It's enabled by default - when you visit the country, if your phone connects to a cell tower at all, you'll be charged 10$ for that day. So make sure you have it in flight-mode if you don't want to be charged 10$ every day it connects to the cell tower.

      • i was talking about international call not roaming, but i already "upgrade" my plan to telstra 69 per month.. it include international calls and roaming.

  • Ported over this morning on a $65 plan, messaged Telstra chat 30 mins later, got the discount applied first attempt. Thanks OP!

  • Got $45 at JB and used an online chat and managed to get $10 monthly discount first attempt!

  • Took 4 attempts this time but got the $10 discount on my second number.

  • possible to pass the gift card to another person? looking at getting AV Receiver and consideration getting $350 for $500 gift card… location in Sydney Parramatta area.

  • Spoke to someone at JB HIFI and apparently they have a promotion this weekend for a $400 gift card on the $65 per month contract for 12 months.
