  • Pity it doesn't support NTFS. FAT32 only :(

    • yeah that's a bit disappointing..

    • +1

It actually says "DVR Function via external USB Hard Drive can be either recorded on either NTFS or Fat 32 file system"

      • +1

Thanks. I stand corrected. Think I was reading the bit in the manual for doing software updates, which does require a FAT32 drive.

        • You don't deserve a neg :)

    $44.94 using the BDAY5 coupon.

Can't add to cart (says preorder only)..?

    • … there is anyone ordered via BigW's website and using "BDAY5 coupon"???
it seems no "buy" button there at all ???

      • They've removed the preorder button. Maybe they're out of stock…

        • There are plenty of stock in local Big W, selling for $49.95

  • hey will this thing be able to record my PS3 gameplay footage (via some input)?
or will it only record things off itself i.e. the Free to Air Channels?

  • Seems to match the popular Clive Peeters Strong HD STB SRT5428 $48 specs exactly, so I presume they are the same under the hood.
Warning, the listed video formats do all work, but I've had trouble with stretching/cropping/audio sync etc. Not sure what the encoding settings are allowed, but I know using Handbrake to create a MKV appears stretched, so need to experiment with settings…

  • Wonder if one can record on one channel and watch 2nd channel at the same time using only the settop box. ( TV still analoge )

    • Keeping my presumptions, the SRT5428 can, but only on the same network. Eg. record Ten, watch Eleven or One

  • plenty left at narellan bigw

  • Looking through the manual, I'm left with 3 questions or omissions that come to mind with this device:
    * It doesn't say what format it records in. I'd like to know, since the option of playing on a computer or tablet or another media player would be nice.
    * It doesn't seem to have the concept of a "season pass", whereby you can record all showings of a series on a channel using the EPG. Instead it looks like it's all time-based recurring recordings, which will break every time the broadcast times change. (IMHO, this makes it a quite weak DVR.)
    * I wish there was a LAN port, so that it could save recordings across the network to a NAS, instead of requiring local storage.

    • It saves files in the .ts container. 2 gigabytes each in size. The video codec is MPEG-2 and audio is AC3. If you're recording 3D stuff then the video codec will be something else.

Most video editors will be able to edit the video - simply rename the .ts file into MPG and you're good to go.

The vast majority of PVRs don't have 'season pass' functionality, unless you use IceTV. The exceptions being Foxtel IQ and TiVo.

  • Is there a restriction on the size of the HDD connected to it? I remember with the Clive Peters' one 1TB was maximum.

    • Got it today. Manual says 500GB.

      • +1

I've got a 1TB hooked up to it and it works fine.

        • Thanks for letting me know. I can get a 1TB then.
