51

Hi JB Hi-Fi is clearing old xbox models for $195. It might not sound a deal for all but it is pretty cheap for someone who don't want to spend too much money. I spotted it at JB Hi-Fi Indooropily thanks

How the heck would they have new launch models lying around?

    Let alone in sufficient quantities…

Need 10+ available to be a valid deal. Can OP confirm stock availability please?

    • There is no way they or anyone has 10 of these.

Someone clearly found something in the back of the store room.

      • Why not? If they have a few of them why couldn't they have ten or twenty or more?

        • Because this is looooooong outta production, pretty simple I would have thought….

          • @scuderiarmani: It's not simple, the point is that if they have one they could have ten or twenty or more. I've seen plenty of retailers that have removed stock from shelves or stopped selling a product as a new one has arrived and it's been put away or sent to an off-site warehouse where it has been forgotten about. This happens all the time, you only have to take a look at the amount of brand new old items that are sold in large quantities on eBay to see this. There are many other reasons why large quantities of new old stock are available all of a sudden.

            • @Maverick-au: Well till I see a photo with many available I'm skeptical. JB moves through stock enough to not allow such a build up.

One S has been this price a few times, so not sure it is a great deal…

Only if you want a Kinect for a specific game or purpose since it's been discontinued.

  • +4

    It's a 5year old system…. With no games included.
No bargain to be had here. Smh smh.

    • That's what I was thinking. It's the OG Xbox One right? Nearly $200 for a 2013 console?

      • +1

I sold mine second hand six months back for $200. People really want the kinect.

Hard to justify paying $195 for this when I paid $179 ($199 - $20 discount) for a 1TB Xbox One S with Minecraft.

      But this has a Kinect!

A deal from Amazon that was a short term promotion and no longer available.

Which will definitely become more common or even a normal price considering Xbox Scarlett (new Xbox tipped for release at E3 2019)

OG Xbox One already has one foot in the obsolescent grave.

        • Announcement at E3, not release. At best it's a late year release, but next year is very likely too.

          • @Smigit: So instead we should buy a console teetering on obsolescence for the same price? Even if it was $250 for an Xbox One which is not that hard to find, I think most people would pick that.

If one hasn't got an Xbox yet, I would be inclined to think they can wait a couple of months or would strongly encourage them to spend a tad extra on the One S.

            • @pennypincher98: I didn't say anyone should run out and buy this. I just stated that there is no real expectation that MS will 'release' a new Xbox next week, we just are likely to hear about one. Whether that influences peoples buying decision is up to them. Consoles aren't like iPhones where the first time the company shows us the product is weeks away from availability, expect at least close to half a year between announcement and availability as they build up to the release.

Also, in the past quite a few customers have bought previous gen consoles after new ones arrived if the price was reasonable too. The One S is a better system of course.

              • @Smigit:

quite a few customers have bought previous gen consoles after new ones arrived

Exactly. Like the Xbox One S when the new console arrives.
I'd be expecting a lower price than this for an OG Xbox One.

  • Saw loganholme qld had them at this price a month ago with GOW it was that old. One S can be had for this price so not really a bargain

Cash converters in fortitude valley sells the OG without kinect, controller or power brick for $20
or $80-$90 for a complete set prices varies depending on condition

i wouldn't spend $200 for the 5 year old console , when most of us bought an S model for less with a game

    • This. Its really the best way to go if you don't mind a second hand one, cashies does pretty decent warranty anyways depending on the store. I bought mine like 2 years ago for $120 over in Sydney.

Probably the best way to get a Kinect if you're after one, though. It's a good price based on the Controller + Kinect, making the console itself almost free.

    Thanks for the effort OP.
But it would be wise to avoid the OG Xbox One.

But as mentioned above, Xbox One S has been known to hit the $200 mark several times in the past and very likely again in the upcoming future.
Not only does it have 4K upscale (Not the same as native but still nice)

It also has a more than usable 4K blu ray player

  • Ebgames sells preowned Kinect for $28, I bought one a while back but paid a little more if I recall.

To make it work with PC and Xbox One S you need the power adapter.

The USB power adapters are rip off, even the third party ones.

    You can just modify it
    http://www.tatsch.it/kinect-2-usb-3-modification/

I did that mod it worked fine, damn dust getting under the lens when doing it.

The problem is the games! There are not that many.
I managed find about five of them.

The tracking of the kinects are great, if you play like Just Dance or Dance Central, it is properly tracking your limbs and head, not the dodgy mobile phone app ones.

    Too bad.
