  • I must have bought one of these 10+ years ago… it looks exactly the same. Unfortunately, don't get much time to use it anymore. Can't believe they still make the exact same model!

    • You are probably thinking of the mof001. The TRA001 hasn't been around for quite that long. They look nearly identical.

      • I've got a MOF001 also, and you're right, they look very similar with mainly just the depth stops and plastic shroud differing. There's the 1400W v 2400W also, though I've found the 1400W plenty powerful for even quite deep passes. Mine is sitting on the dining room table next to me at the moment as I'm using it to join some kitchen worktops together tomorrow.

1400W is powerful until you work on something like curly maple that is hard and tears out everytime the speed drops off.

Considering our timber prices are so much higher than the difference between the 1400w and 2400w, I can't justify not going with Mo Paowah!

@[Deactivated]: Jarrah's the most demanding timber I've worked with (old stuff that's rock hard) but that doesn't have anywhere near the tear out risk. I'm not jealous in the slightest of you with your 2400W, nope, not at all. :)

            • @banana365: I'll trade you my 2400w for a nice jarrah crotch slab :)

              • @[Deactivated]: If I were lucky enough to have one you'd be first on the list. A list that's unlikely to be called into action. ☺️

                • @banana365: Done. I'm always collecting timber… maybe I should actually do something when I'm in the shop.

      • The TRA001 has been around since 2001. The MOF is a newer model, the JOF is the latest.

I got a used TRA about 5y ago, and it's never missed a beat. Thing is a monster.

        • Couldn't find any info on them before 2009.

Whilst the tra001 is a good unit, they are known to just kick it but at this price, I'd just get another one.

I could buy 3 of these for the price of a Festool.

  • PIT. Price in title

      My bad. Fixed.

"To those who know what a woodworking router is, this particular model needs no introduction."

I own a woodworking router, I don't know this model. Silly thing to assert, no?

  • Damn I thought you could buy a Mitsubishi Triton for $395. I am willing to give up the free delivery offer.

    • *delivery: $50,000

    does this support 10Gbps?

    • No, this is not Xiaomi.

  • no only 1/2" and 1/4" bits

    NBN ready?

Will I be able to usse my Ozito batteries with it?

    • +1

Not sure why you'd want to route your batteries but sure. Just plug it into any 10A socket and away you go.

  • I was just about to buy the Ryobi 1600W from bunnings for $150 to flatten a jarrah slab. Obviously this is more powerful, but not sure how much I'll use it. Should the Ryobi be able to do the job, just slower?

    • +1

If you're going to profile the edge later, it depends on the shape.

If you're removing a lot of stock in a single pass, you'll need the power. You can negate the need for this buy having more intermediate router bits.

      Router bits are expensive.

      • Thanks, I think I'll just try and do shallow passes. Not sure how much I'll use the router as I'm just getting into woodwork, and I'm pretty good at dropping hobbies when I get bored.

        • Some hobbies are completely commercially driven.

Woodwork is almost a human necessity. You'll always come back to it when you need something you can't buy (or made of chipboard and screws).

Having said that, you may not want to use a router (although the router is such a versatile tool).
