Things are only worth what people choose to pay for them, plus this phone is lacking in a lot of areas compared to what else is on offer
No 3.5mm audio jack for example.
But according to Google boys, it has the best camera and gets updates, thus it's the best out there.

The Pixel line of phones is one of the most basic phones and doesn't have anything special from the rest of the pack, other than its camera. I honestly don't understand how people are willing to pay upwards of $1000 for a phone, when its clearly going to become obsolete within a year.
Would JB stack the price match and $350 trade in deals?

I correct my earlier comment. Went and got it done. Walked out with the phone for $548 after trading in a 5 year old mini Xperia worth no more than $40 :)

i went in thismorning to try get the $549 deal with a trade in, they told me it finished at 1159pm last night
store was pitt street mall sydney
thats what i thought too, until they told me no.. unless they means ends on june 11 as in literally as it hits 12am on the 11th lol

It's taking ages and took a lot of convincing that it would work (me telling them) but it seems to be going through now… 45 minutes so far
Update: further issues, trade in value $0,they are on their online help chat
Update2: they are calling people who have a day off to figure it out, 2 people over an hour so far

Tell them to put in other handset with IMEI number 190000000000000 (13 zeroes)

The final hurdle was trade in value showing $0 on their screen but it printed up fine
They were very cautious the whole time.

Call my nearest JB. They checked with the manager and confirmed they could do the price match and trade in deal.
The trade in deal was originally to end 29 May. How long is it extended?

I might try to return the Pixel 3a (still unopened) and get this instead for the trade in and Gift Cards! Very long shot but might be worth trying.
This didn't work. The sales guy was happy to a price match, in fact JB had just reduced the price following HN to $899) but due to the trade in already done it couldn't be reversed from $100 discount to $350 discount. If only I'd waited 2 days it could have been a Pixel 3 instaed of 3a for $49 (899-500-350).
Oh well.

I managed to price match the 3 XL at JB for $748.
It look like jb hifi has updated the same rate as Harvey’s.
But at last minute I scored $350 off on pixel 3 128gb.
