That's not how it works… maybe try the forums.

    • I disagree - it's a good deal. If it goes off it's a great deal.

      • +1

        An entirely legitimate post.

The difference is you've been up-front about your varied motives, that's all.

  • Says Euromatic on the indoor unit and then AKAI on the outdoor unit!?!

What are you exactly selling… so suspicious you have not detailed the brand etc in any of the listings :|

    • +3

You seem to be assuming the OP is the vendor, and they're not.

      • It crossed my mind too though - the old "seller that pretends they are a customer posting a deal" trick.

        • They've been around forever and simply don't fit the profile.

Folk should conduct at least some basic analysis before going off.

      • -1

with half the "deals" here majority are affiliated someway or another… regardless

I WOULD rather pay abit more to get a reputable brand with warranty… GENERIC WARRANTY…2 Years..Really worth the risk?

Bunnings sell the Akai brand and regularly on clearance or sale there…

        • Are you associated with Fujitsu? What about Akai or Bunnings?

The majority [of commenters] are affiliated someway or another … regardless …

I don't really think it's a deal. I'd rather pay $200 more and buy a Fujitsu when it's only sale. $200 for a much better brand.

What even is this brand? Cheap Chinese crap and it'll cost you $500-800 to have it installed. There is no point installing rubbish, because in 2 years time you'll have to install another one when this one craps itself and there are no parts available.

For split systems it's worth spending for a good brand - do it once, do it properly. I've had a Fujitsu in my loungeroom for the last 10 years, and hasn't skipped a beat.

It's a false economy buying cheap A/C - another reason is often these cheap units will consume more electricity. It's only 3 stars - most 2.5kw units these days are 5 star or higher.

This one also isn't even an inverter model, so won't have even heating/cooling, and will 'thump' on and off as the compressor kicks in and out.

It's probably only worth this price, not a bargain.

    • +3

Best advise ever don't save on the air con when installation is more expensive.

    • +1

      …so won't have even heating/cooling…

Yes it will - it's reverse cycle. Whether it has an inverter or not is a separate issue.

But you make a few good points, esp when it comes to installation cost. No point intalling something of unknown reliability.

Don't know why everyone's got a thing for Fujitsu - is that sell-out Mark Taylor still flogging them?

      • +2

Maybe because they're reliable, have parts available etc. Look at commercial buildings, you mostly see, Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric or Fujitsu, there's a reason for that.

        • +1

May well be, though i don't quite understand why i'm not being lynched for the Mark Taylor reference.

      • +1

I just had some units installed, and i got a number of quotes from various installers.

Every installer said the same thing.

For reliability AND availability of parts in the future these brands they ALL recommended. (In no paticular order)

        Fujitsu
        Panasonic
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (Not Mitsubishi Electric)
        Dakin

Like others said here, its not a big saving given it costs around $500-600 for a basic install to save $100 on a unit that just doesnt have a track record of reliability.

If it needs replacing, you have to pay for reinstallation.

We found out the hard way when we were given a Mistral Airconditioner that had never been installed but was a year old. Cost $600 to install then it died, couldnt get anyone to even quote on getting it fixed (well we did have one say they would inspect for $300 - then we would have to pay for any parts etc). So rather than throw money into it we just paid to replace.

The new unit (Panasonic) works reliability, is quieter and far cheaper to run

I'm all for bargains, but with the installation cost factor its false economy to save on unknown brands.

        My units recently installed -

2 X Fujitsu 2.5kw units bought at BingLee with rebates net $490 each
1 X Mitsubishi HI 9KW bought at Bunnings $1900. This required 30M of piping so cost a lot more to install. Meaning even more important that it doesnt get replaced soon.

I agree. I guess my comment about Fujitsu was it's the only alternative people were suggesting up to the point in time i commented.

As is now clear there's a whole bunch of alternative brands.

          • @[Deactivated]: BTW if the cost was the same for the other brands I mentioned Mark would have come second. Somethings just grate on you dont they!

            • @RockyRaccoon: Honestly though i remember when he first started spruiking for them years ago and he just seemed to be everywhere. This TV, that radio, this poster, that goddamn shopfront. Everywhere. Used to tick me off, but then The Phantom seems to be getting less patient as he gets older…

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: There are a handful of good brands, mentioned already. I only commented on Fujitsu because that's what I have x2, and I didn't buy them because of Mark Taylor. I bought them because they seemed reliable enough, cheaper than the competition and I liked how they don't have HUGE outdoor units (yes I realise this could reduce efficiency, but I don't want an eyesore).

Another thing I noticed after using a "Carrier" brand split system is how noisy the indoor unit was even on LOW fan speed. It was intrusive when watching TV. On high fan speed you'd have to raise voices. It was ridiculous.

Fujitsu just purrs along and I barely hear it.

You get what you pay for….

I said 'even' as in a constant temperature. Inverters can run at reduced speed to maintain temp. Non inverters run at 100% then off then 100% then off, so the room gets too hot/cold, then it cuts out then it drops, then kicks in again. Temp is constantly up and down.

Fujitsu have proven reliability, just like Mitsubishi, Daikin, Panasonic, etc.

We don't even know what this brand is!! Who do you contact when it craps itself?

        • I said 'even'…

          Oh yeah.
The Phantom apologises, which is not easy with an ego as colossal as his.

Who do you contact when it craps itself?

          Superman i guess.

Spend money on a good one.

Bing Lee has 20% off on eBay, use that to buy a fujitsu which comes with a $150 gift card. Then you've got a good quality air con with a longer warranty and better star rating for around $550-600.

  • Brand-less always means quality…

  • Always spend a bit on an efficient and reliable air conditioner, given they last for at least 7 years. The amount you spend considering rising electricity costs offsets a cheap air conditioner.

  • This could be good for someone who is doing their own install, knows a bit about AC units, or iz selling their property. At least. Whether it's a quality unit or not is unknown, but IMO the benefit of the doubt can be given and uts still a good deal for the right person. 319 for a split system is cheap
