Just checked with Live chat. "They said the standard wait for 3-5 working days to process. No issues with the order. Please wait." We'll see.

Believe it or not i did actually do what I said. And yes, I am impatient. I paid using PayPal. No refund so far.

by the way, this is one review of the phone. i guess no one care to check what they were buying on saturday haha
    https://www.wired.com/review/razer-phone-2/

    sounds like a dud

    • +5 votes

do you think people would have kept their 1c after seeing this review?

      •

no of course, people will still buy 10s.
just sharing/reading the review while waiting for decision from optus..

    • +4 votes

The biggest gripe in the review was that it's "Expensive" at 0.1c that's not really a factor..

      • +6 votes

Exactly, at 1c who cares about the reviews.

    • +9 votes

Djeez dodged a bullet there, almost wasted a cent on this dud.

Damn.. now I hope they definitely don't deliver

      Sorry peeps 😑

    •

      No cancellation from paypal (yet).

Maybe they are cancelling those who ordered via AfterPay, because of cost of processing payment or treating the purchases as a
      joke.

Did you purchase more than one?

      • +2 votes

        Implying that the PayPal/CC 1-cent purchases aren't a joke?

        • -7 votes

A significant feature of PayPal is you can pay for a cheap item from a potentially dodgy merchant and not expose your credit card. AfterPay is for Millennials who cannot resist impulse purchases and makes 30% of revenue from late fees.

          • +1 vote

@mathew42: Oh, you're implying that AfterPay initiated the refund process. If so, my bad, I thought you were saying that Optus saw the AfterPay payments as a joke and not all the 1-cent purchases made with CC and PayPal - which is what I was implying.

            • +1 vote

@Dr-Krieger: I am suggesting that Optus may have seen AfterPay as an indicator a joke purchase. It may also be easier to cancel AfterPay transactions.

It is also clear that I've hit a raw nerve with millennials. But the fact that a significant part revenue is from late fees. If you miss the payments on your 1c phone it will cost $68 in late fees.

              •

@mathew42: Don't understand the negging on your post. Good explanation, I wasn't aware of most of this, never used the service myself. Suppose you learn something new everyday.

          •

@mathew42: PayPal do not expose your credit card details to sellers, but they give them all other information about you (name and address etc).

When I rang them to complain about it they said PayPal was never meant to protect our privacy, but our security (by not giving out credit card details).

There is an easy way around this, if you want privacy as well - just upgrade to a business (it's free).

The only thing about the business account is that you will need an ABN, but those are easy to get even if you don't have a business (just say you're planning on selling hand-knitted scarves or something).

            •

@BooYa: Thanks for highlighting that PayPal share name and address.

Reflecting on this, I only use PayPal for online shopping and in that scenario the seller already has my name and address as it is a bit hard to post an item without that. However I will keep this in mind for digital purchases.

              •

                @mathew42: Yes, usually it's not a problem.

But there was one instance when I wish PayPal did not disclose my name and address - I made some donations using PayPal to some online streamers (on Twitch).

I wish I'd known that at the time, because I'd rather the online streamers didn't know my real name and address, so I'd use another way to support them anonymously.

Nope, just the one. Still no official notification from Optus, just a generic email from Afterpay advising that my refund has been successfully processed.

Not ordered this. Missed out, still keep coming to check the comments. I even imagined a news item on smh / abc news stating the glitch and headlined "Optus makes pricing error on website, offers a 8GB phone for 1c, accepts its mistake and honors all orders."

  •

I'm surprised someone hasn't contacted Optus to enquire why their order hasn't been processed… Just for fun.

Would've been better if they had made a joke out of it - "hey guys, it's Optus… look we f**ked up ay… sorry about that but you obviously know we'd lose like a shit load of cash if we were to give everyone a phone… Also sorry it took us so long to respond we weren't sure how to break the news to you, but we'd like to assure you that its not you, its us."
