True Ozb'ers are using Spotify PH. :)

      • +1

Real ozb'ers buy ebay special for lifetime subscription for $10.00

        • It's $1 on redditbay spotify lifetime

        • That too.

        • I’ve seen this on eBay but not sure how it works. Is it legit?

          • @padfoot07: iv been using one for 2 months now, works fine… i did register it to a dummy account though.
they send you a link to become part of a family account.

      • Could still get it for $6, it wasn't about getting Spotify.

    • Have they been delivered? I completely forgot about it

You don't follow OzB very well then. Want some tictacs? I can't eat them all.

  • +11

I think these will be in every box of Cornflakes soon.

  • +4

Could probably get Officeworks to price beat this.

    • +2

Curious if they will beat another Wesfarmers business lol

      • +2

        Yes.

        • +1

          wow they did

  • +7

Didn't know Bunnings sold consumer electronics!

    • +14

Google won't rest until it has always on microphones in every household.

      /tinfoil hat

      • +14

Your phone is far more capable than a Google mini when it comes to invading privacy, no one seems to bat an eyelid.

        • That's why I've been wearing aluminium foil as my undie for the past years, not only stopping govt listening to me but also the radiation getting into my genital

      • They'll enjoy the vast array of different sounding farts…

        …from my cat.

  • +12

OP, you’re gonna get smashed by posters saying “they were free here” and “why would you pay for them!”, but for people like me who weren’t looking for them then, but now want/need one, this is a good deal.

    • Dude, the thousands of people who got the free one's have them for sale for less than this.

      • +3

        Link?

        • +2

Probably beating Mario in Super Smash.

Jokes aside, there was a promo in which any two marked Tic Tac boxes would get you a free 1-month Spotify subscription, which is then redeemable for a free Google Home Mini in another promo.

      • Where are they advertised??

        • Look at your local Facebook marketplace or gumtree

      • +1

I wish, a lot of them in my area are around $40, some even $50. They dont pay attention to actual shop prices. I got one guy to $30 but was an effort 🙄

    • +4

Just becuase you can't find a use for them doesn't make them useless.

      bet you worship your iphone?

  • +1

Could just buy any of the 500 on Facebook marketplace… bordering on landfill at this rate.

    • +1

They're selling them for 40-50 in my area. One is selling one for $35. I should just low ball them.

  • Hmm not sure what to do with it?

    • +13

      You can always ask it…

    • +1

Set up morning routine with alarm, weather , news, reminders and music.

      • +1

Yea until this morning I asked "hey google what's the weather today" blablabla it'll be cloudy today

Went to the station and it was pouring…

        • Maybe google wasn’t smart” enough in your area

  • Good find! However, it's showing not available at most stores.

    • Got price matched at Officeworks. Nice one!

      • Curious, does OW price match if its not in stock at local Bunnings?

  • -3

Never got my free one from Spotify.

  • what do you use them for…are people getting lazy

    • Room tracking via home assist. Also a chime for doorbell.

      • +1

I find the Echo/Alexa devices work better for my Ring 2 doorbell (not just as a chime but can see the video and 2 way talk works on the Spots/Shows).

That being said, I do have google home hubs, minis and the full-size google home - there’s one device in each room, and it’s a great way to get music playing in every room of the house at the same time!

      • Are you using the bluetooth for tracking? how accurate is it?

        • No issues with bluetooth here. It's a new home (one of those long/skinny ones), so I can have my phone at one end of the house, and the other end, bluetooth devices like Google or my gen 2 AirPods still work 20+ metres away at the back without lag or cutting out. I guess everyone's experience is going to be different though.

      • What's room tracking?

  • +3

Imo, Coles could have given these instead of plastic containers

    • Yeah, they sucked me in with those Stikeez, but those containers are rather crappy. I didn't know Woolies were giving away a Google Home Mini at any time… must have missed that post. Oh well. Got enough of them anyway (from eBay Plus, Spotify and some other promo I can't remember).

Tell me about it. I have 9 google homes from codes I bought off redittbay. Cost me a total of $25 for the lot

        • Sweet! Put one in every house corner

  • Buy giving out free voice assistants, there is no doubt woolies will listen to what consumers are asking for or buying thereby gaining a edge through competitive intelligence

    • Our phones are already capable in doing so well before Google Home minis were around. Woollies (and other companies) already have the intelligence needed.

      • +1

True, lot of them are, I wasn't surprised when recently a dinner deal popped up on my phone minutes after using that brand name in my conversation

        • -1

And I thought I was paranoid too.

There has been multiple times I have a conversation about X item with my wife and a few minutes later I browse my phone and a google ad pops up about that same item.

    • I’m pretty sure that Woolies are already using some API that allows you to add items to your online Woolies shopping list so it’s all ready to go for the next time you order. This is what they’re trying to encourage you to use them for - more online orders.

  • New Gen coming soon..

    • -1

Same hardware, just a facelift and possibly an internal battery

  • +1

It's no longer listed at their website

    • I'm not finding it anymore either :( missed out on the Officeworks price match!

      • Just called Bunnings and my local store (Lismore) have 30 in stock and $36 until the end of today (even though they are no longer online)

  • Bunnings Springvale (VIC) has plenty in stock still. No price tag but scanned at $36 each.
