Tiger: Melbourne/Avalon to Perth from $69.97!

331

Now I know Tiger are not always in everyone's good books, but their cancellations on Perth routes are next to none, and they usually get away ontime considering they allow some downtime before the flight before the long trek. But this sale starts:
- tomorrow for Stripes members
-Friday for the general public.
From recent sales, they never appear to sell out on Stripes exclusive access. So gives you time if you want to add money to your debit mastercard to avoid the $7.50 credit card fee each way.

Melbourne (Tullamarine)- Perth $74.96
Melbourne (Avalon)- Perth $69.97
TRAVEL: 01 Sep 11 - 30 Nov 11

Unfortunately Jetstar dont have Perth flights within an hour of Tiger's so they cant be price beaten :(

Not sure on travel dates, have to wait until morning.

I have done a few Avv-Perth flights on them and they are never full so easy to get 3 seats to yourself compared to Tulla flights which are always chockers.

  • I've never flown tiger, but this could be the first time.

Personally I'd pay whatever I need to avoid flying with Tiger. I prefer to get to my destinations relatively on time.

    • +2

Cheap and best. I ve flown mel to perth quite a few times.. havent had issues seriously with them..i mean come on they give u a price next to nothin..its seriously a bargain, cant complain…

  • +1

does this deal go the other way round i.e., perth to Mel

    • +1

      yes.

  • What dates is it for?

    • no idea. will need to wait until the morning to see. I only got prices.

  • +1

I bought a return for around $160 a few weeks ago. Never been delayed on the Perth flight before and I find their on board service to be a lot better than Jetstar (and Qantas for the price you pay).

    • that what I was saying. They have not cancelled a MEL-PER flight since last year.

      • +2

they've cancelled the per-mel leg on 4 occasions in the last month though :(

May 21st tull to perth flight cancelled and tiger offered next flight 24hrs later. Started to notify passengers earlier that day (not me), then decided people were turning up anyway. I stood in line and wasn't told until at baggage belt even though staff directing cues had asked me where I was going. When I told them, they said nothing and just walked off directing passengers to other destinations.
Reason given for cancellation once requested: unservicable aircraft.
May 25th Avalon to Perth delayed and then last minute cancelled.
Reason given for cancellation: oxygen tank used by passenger during last flight had to be refilled by engineers who had to come from Tull Melb didn't make Avalon in time before Pilots assessed it would make them go over flying hours (so pilots went home). Oh and Tiger don't have an engineer at Avalon.

Some passengers surmise that when passenger numbers are too low flights often get cancelled. Who knows!

Bused to Tull Melb on the Wed making a flight 6hrs later. Made it due to bus company deciding to come and pick us up straight away as opposed to Tiger's suggestion so long as the bus company get us by *** time at the latest. Even then approx 9 people bused to Melb were left at melb airport due to lack of room on flight. Once on flight, two people were kicked off for being intoxicated (no time to check in two waiting people). On flight seat did not lay back as button was broken. Very uncomfortable flight over. Five dollar food voucher given to Avalon passengers as goodwill but not able to use on plane.

Perth to Avalon - perfect flight, comfortable seat, crew in good humour. If all tiger flights like my Perth to Avalon it would be among the best. Some Avv to Perth passengers reported they had flight Perth to Melb cancelled three times in a row when coming over east.
In Tigers favour - baggage handled well. Staff at Avv seemed to do their best to be helpful.

      • +1

they also don't have an engineer at gold coast, had to wait 7.5 hours for one to make the 60 minute journey from brisbane

  • Tiger = run!! :)

  • i booked a per-melb on 1/6 & the flight was re-scheduled to sun a few days later. I rang to cancel it and had to re-book on jetstar. Today, it's back on the schedule that was originally booked !

  • +3

Never again with Tiger for me. My Syd-Bris was cancelled while I was on my way to the airport for a peak Friday afternoon flight last month. They offered next morning as replacement which did not suit. Had to pay over $360 for 2 last minute tickets on Jetstar and was lucky to get them.

It could have happened with any airline I suppose but they obviously cancelled due to under-booking - I was auto allocated row 9 in web check-in 8 hours earlier. How could it be so empty for a peak Friday flight with all the specials they have been running?

And to rub it in they take 3-6 weeks to refund - I'm still waiting.

  • +3

    Dont do it man,
Melb to perth is a long distance to be on a tiger flight.

  • +2

According to my own experience and friends' experience, don't fly with Tiger.

There will be lots of dramas and uncertainties with Tiger. My suggestions is you pay some extra dollars to buy a better experience. If you plan for your holiday with Tiger because you are financially difficulty to fly with others, then please don't go and save money for a better experience. Don't let Tiger ruin your holiday.

  • +1

Hmmm. So far 7 of 15 independent posters have negative things to say about Tiger.

    • have flown with tiger on a few occasions…… no dramas for me thus far….

  • On the domestic flights, I have flown tiger airways only once which was MEL - SYD - MEL. It was a $40.00 return ticket. Didnt expect much at all for what I paid. Was going just to meet friends for the weekend. An hour and half delayed on the way to sydney and right on time from syd - mel. No frills airline.

However, I also flew Singapore - India - Singapore sector once very reluctantly and didnt expect much as well. I only wanted the flight to leave on time as my second leg of journey was booked on different airlines. The flights to and from singapore took off on time. No hassles there. Also, the flights were empty even with all the sale fares. I had a 3 seater to myself which came in handy for few hours sleep.

  • Good prices… if they end up honouring it. For anyone booking this, make sure your trip is not for something important. Tiger cancelled on me too, after I successfully booked for sale fares they pulled the flight. Still waiting for refund.

Have flown the Perth - Melbourne return route before with Tiger and had delays, expected that and factored that into my planning … You need a cut lunch and a water bag to get to them though (terminal), they are a fair hike from the other terminal (a possible problem if you are travelling with babies/really old people).

I've flown the Perth - Singapore return leg numerous times and have had no problems

  • +1

No more tiger trips for me. Its just not worth the uncertainty. I'd rather pay the extra $$ to go on virgin or jetstar. Tiger just have a reputation of moving flights to totally different days, delaying flights and what not.

  • +1

Personally I would pay Virgin Blue or Jetstar a bit more just to avoid bad experience.
MX Newspaper (in Sydney) has reported that Tiger airline fail has about 25% flights cancelled/delay in the past 4 months. It would really suck to be one of the 25%s

    • EDIT: NVM

  • +4

1.) I flew tiger twice and got both times delayed by more than two hours. But that's not the worse…

2.) They weighed our hand luggage and despite my wife having almost none (well under a kg) they've noted that I was a little over (7kg allowed. And they do check!). Then the rude check in lady offered me 2 choices: either to check it in for a hefty fee or to take something out. I took my jacket out while she was still talking, it took less than 5 seconds - zipper open, jacket out, zipper closed. She then ordered me to re-queue again at the end of the line - "Tiger policy!" I thought she was joking, but she was dead serious! "If a passenger opens the bag after being weighed he needs to re-queue" I pointed out that it's a really long queue and we would then probably miss the check in time to which she replied "yes, we might. But that's policy"

3.) We felt like school children being ordered to stand in a corner but had no other choice then to join the queue again. We just made it in time. A gentleman behind us wasn't allowed to check in for the same flight anymore. DESPITE BEING DELAYED BY OVER TWO HOURS!

Ask yourself if this airline is really worth it. They treat their customers like idiots. Plus, check their cancellation/delay rates and you'll see that it's a gamble if you really make it on time. Pity if you have already paid for a hotel room and can't use it.

    • +1

It amazes me that this kind of stuff goes on, I can understand that super-budget airline like that would do stuff to cut costs, but such poor customer service? Good customer service doesn't cost a lot more, MORE customer service DOES cost more, but an increase in the quality as opposed to the quantity does not.

And of course I have seen all the "Airline" "Airport" etc. shows, and they have portrayed Tiger in the same way…

      Why…

  • +1

As I have stated in the past, if you have somewhere to stay at the other end and you are after cheap flights then why not Tiger. However, as in my case where I didn't know anyone in Perth, you arrive at Perth airport at 8pm for your 12:30 am return flight home to Melbourne and they cancel the flight by SMS message at 10pm at night with no further news on when they will get you on a flight, it can be a risky proposition. Luckily Jetstar still had vacancies, otherwise it would have meant a return taxi fare to Perth CBD, another nights accommodation and possibly a day's pay. Before you buy consider the consequences of cancellations. Also, despite taking out Tiger insurance, they would only refund the airfare as they stated that it was a cancellation not a delay (wherein the policy provides for a financial compensation for delays only) - they consider a delay to be any delayed time after you have checked in and boarded.

  • Flown Tiger perth to Melb before…no worries.

Saying that… sister just flow tiger 2 weeks ago and her flight got moved 24 hrs.

I have a Wedding in November in Melb so perfect.

When I look on their website it already says "sale fare" and approx $200 return.

Should I wait until tomorrow or is this the sale?

EDIT: OK so $200 is normal fare and it will be cheaper tomorrow. cool hopefully not sold out by then

    • just had a look with my stripes access, there is plenty of dates available. Especially Avalon, its every day.

  • I wouldn't fly if it's an important trip and you need to guarantee your times. I purchased a flight in the last sale and it's already been rescheduled.

  • +1

    $150 return flights…sif pass that up :)

    got my booking in.

  • Only 1 sep- 30 nov. Was cheaper yesterday for dates outside then.

    • I noticed somthing funny going on with some of the pricing.

i.e. Before sale 99 each way perth to tullamarine and during sale 79 and 119.

      Bit dodgy.

Just booked Perth/Melb return for $162.50

A good deal is only a good deal if it comes off.

  • +1

Flown with tiger 12 times so far. Never had a problem except for 2 delayed flights, one delayed by 30 minutes and another delayed 3 hours. Tiger RARELY cancel flights. All you have to do is CHECK your airports website to see if your flight is running on time or not, and if it running late (sucj as 3 hours) simply get there 2-3 hours LATER (if you have checked in online) We have flown to brisabane, adelaide, alice springs, canberra - I would pick Tiger over other airlines ANYDAY, I'd rather have a delayed flight than a cancelled one.
