Unlimited Usenet Access USD $20 (~AU $29) Yearly (Recurring) @ Usenetserver

690

Identical to the previous newshosting deal which is now expired.

Lifetime Discount
Unlimited Downloads
Uncapped Speed
60 Connections
3962 Days Retention
Zero-Log VPN Service Included

The included VPN are generally rubbish but you don't need vpn for Usenet. Just use SSL if you have concerns.

For those sitting on the fence. This and the previous Newshosting offer was the best deal I've seen in 10 years.

They are a Highwinds provider that use DCMA takedowns

  • Can I browse Usenet and see what's there actually so I can decide if it's useful for me to get it or not? Thank you

    • +2

Yes. Go register at an indexer like Nzbgeek.

    • +2

wow what's going on with all these awesome usenet deals…

This is free to search and use (1000 nbz/day).. $10 gets you lifetime vip (10k nbz/day = 10,000 files or API calls per day, doubt you'll need VIP)
      https://www.usenet-crawler.com/

nzbgeek is good if you're looking for a lifetime plan. geek has a lot of stuff ($30 lifetime) and better than usenet-crawler.

DogNZB and nzbfinder are the best in terms of having everything but cost $20-$30/yr.

      • +1

mate, any site accepting paypal ?

      • Great to see Usenet Crawler back again. I'd given up on them after their outage lasted over 4 months.

  • What backbone again?

    • Highwinds. I'll add that to the description.

  • Is this any different to Thundernews?

    • +1

Same. Thundernews is a Newshosting reseller. If you need a backup block you should be looking at Usenet Express, Usenet Farm or Vipernews. They are independent Tier 1 providers. The latter 2 are NTD takedowns instead of DCMA. Their retention is no where near that of Highwinds though. Black Friday is the best time to pickup cheap blocks

      • Sounds like I should switch to this as my main and wait till Black Friday for some blocks. Thanks!

      • Does thunder do dcma takedowns? I haven’t come across any and I’ve been with them a few years. Astra on the other hand, nearly everything I tried was taken down within hours.

If these guys are identicle to thunder I’ll have to jump ship

        • All Highwinds are DCMA. Astraweb are no longer independent and also now Highwinds/DCMA.

          • @4agte: Cheers, I’ve made the switch. Hopefully I have the same luck with these guys as I had with thunder

  • +1

Thanks for sharing, this is indeed one of the better deals that I have seen. Pair this with a TweakNews block account as a fill and the world is your oyster!

  • Is this different to the one posted yesterday? Or is this just another company offering the same thing?

    • The both are Highwinds Usenet providers. The only difference is who is billing you

  • Bah. Shouldn't have jumped the gun on the NewsDemon sub

    • :) same
though that deal was $23 USD a year, ($46 for 24mths), so not really that big a difference ;)

  • I'll use this alongside my easynews account. I just can't give up that Web interface!

  • just cancelled by newsdemon :)
    I was paying 17 a quarter. lol

    • +2

I'm paying $10 a month on easynews. With download limits. Might be time for a switch.

  • Can you buy one off blocks with Usenet?

    • yep, plenty of providers have block accounts

  • +3

Friends, I'm still having trouble wrapping my hand around the benefits/ uses of usenet. After googling its like a torrent alternative (for linux isos of course)?

    • Me too.
I bought in on the NewsHosting deal, but I'm yet to see how its better than free alternatives.
Also, after you pay for usenet it seems like you need to pay for an indexer subscription to find "the good stuff".

I'll probably get the refund unless I can find some point to it before the weekends over.

  • Paying 8 bucks a month for Astraweb unlimited.

So these guys are reliable and worth the switch? I'm still new to this stuff.

    • I've used them in past - had brought 1 TB block.
Then moved to newsdemon and now switched back again to usenetserver.
      Pretty good service.

    • Astraweb is no longer independent and now Highwinds.best switching and saving money

    • +1

      Zero point staying with Astraweb.

    • yep, switching is a no brainer

  • Thanks, I'm actually the OP of the previous deal, but missed out of actually ordering it. Went with this instead.

    • Sorry I've never used usenets - Is there any difference between your deal and this one? apart from company is different, would the speed/performance/reliability be different also?

      Thanks

      • nope they use the same backbone. This is probably a better deal since they have a free indexer you can search from. The other deal did not include it.

  • How does this compare to Eweka?

    • I have been with UNS for years and have no issues, very fast and reliable.

      • How do you find the completion rate? Eweka completes most things on the first shot. Tried newsdemon ones and had constant missing articles. Switched back over straight away

        • Usenetserver have access to Eweka servers via their NL system. However, this Usenetserver follows DMCA while Eweka follows NTD. That means even if both receive a takedown request it will be available a lot longer for Eweka customers than Usenetserver.

I have used both used NewsDemon and Eweka. With NewsDemon I would use my backup blocks slightly more. However, with proper automation (sonarr, radarr, sickchill etc.) I have zero reliant on torrents.

If cost is a not a priority in both retention and completes. Usenetserver would be very very comparable given the few years I have used NewsDemon

          • @4agte: Thanks bud this convinced me to go for it.

So far speeds are 11.3 MB/Sec stable vs Eweka ~7-8mb/sec . Pretty impressed

    • I would keep both. Eweka is awesome. I used both Tweaknews and Eeweka and Giganews and even bubbanews as my main squeeze. You pay for quality. Was with Giganews for many years but their service levels degraded and it was too expensive.

Signed up for Usenetserver as my secondary. I always try to sign up directly with the main brand as they will always have the best service levels and retention. Resellers come and go- bubbanews. I thought the name was hilarious and signed up and forgeot about it. Tehy went out of business so I didnt have to cancel.

Eweka and Usenetserver have the best retention always. I pair it with my sab and slug.

  • I signed up for this deal yesterday and I like it a lot. However, I am a nntp newbie and I am having trouble getting my head around usenet providers, usenet clients and usenet indexers. As Newshosting has a search function in their web interface, is there much advantage in installing sabnzd or nzbget or a usenet indexer?

    • +1

Plenty of advantage, if your looking to automate your library (depending on what you're using nzb's for) use indexer like nzbgeek with sabnzbd, sonarr, radarr.

  • This deal appears to be for new customers only? I'm attempting to add to my existing account and says my account is not eligible.

    • This is correct. It appears to know existing accounts IP addresses. I tried using my phone network and incognito mode, and got the discounted price

  • +1

Can anyone recommend a good free NZB search site? Most to be paid.

    • Not sure on free indexers, the paid indexers are relatively cheap for lifetime membership, and well worth it. I recommend nzbgeek or nzb.su for paid, you may get some free searches with them on a non paid membership, you'll need to check.

      • Thanks I'm trialing nzb geek and it's working nicely

  • I'm new to usenet… was using a another program before isp cut it off.
I've downloaded the vpn which was sent in the email, but where do I go from here? Is there a link to download a program like newsreader?

  • Awesome deal.

  • its pretty cheap, i use frugal as its pretty cheap yearly, & being small, less takedowns
free indexers, cant go past https://filesharingtalk.com/nzbs/movies/
or nzb planet, only 5 freebies there tho

  • I bought it what next, I never used usenet before, any tutorial ??

  • Thanks for the deal OP. Been a heavy torrent user for years and for this price might as well give Usenet a go and see what it's like.

    • I doubt you will be going back once you get a taste.

  • Thanks OP! This is is a hell of a deal considering I was paying $40USD/yr for another highwinds provider.
