I saw this at the microsoft store in Sydney.
Very well specced for the price, great solid build quality, just a shame about the current situation.

    • that's interesting though microsoft followed trumps ban and stopped selling Huawei computers and phones

Quote from Microsoft 4 days ago: https://www.gizmodo.com.au/2019/06/huawei-laptops-are-back-i…

"We have been evaluating, and will continue to respond to, the many business, technical and regulatory complexities stemming from the recent addition of Huawei to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Export Administration Regulations Entity List… As a result, we are resuming the sale of existing inventory of Huawei devices at Microsoft Store."

Use of the term "existing stock" is perhaps telling here. Microsoft certainly isn't committing to anything beyond that. When pressed by The Verge the company reiterated, "Microsoft Store is selling existing inventory, which is compliant with current U.S. regulations."

In the meantime, Huawei has announced the postponement of a new Windows laptop that was originally going to be revealed at CES Asia last week. The company had previously shown off its new Matebook 14 and an updated MateBook X Pro line at Mobile World Congress back in February.

This doesn't look great for future support, despite it being a great product.

I might suggest HP Spectre x360 through the deal below (open in an incognito/inprivate window to get rates to activate).

        • 13-ap0003tu - i5-8265 8GB 256GB for $1693 w/$50 gift card and 2.4% cashrewards/2.45% shopback
        • 13-ap0008 tu - i7-8565 16GB 512GB for $2155 w/$50 gift card and 2.4% cashrewards/2.45% shopback

Note: HP use a 16:9 ratio screen w/ intel USD 620 graphics and Whiskey Lake series processor vs Huawei 4:3 ratio screen w/ Nvidia MX150 graphics and Kaby Lake series processor so pro's and con's

Hasn't Huawei has been banned by Google and US? When will Aus follow suit?

Support and updates have already been pulled from Huawei products

Australia isn't trying to win at trade deal negotiations with China, so I'm quite sure we won't.

      Yes and no.

ZTE was on the list last year but was removed 3 months later after they paid a fine and made some changes.

Australia sends it's young men and women stupid enough to join the Defence Forces off to their death so that US corporations can privatise the Middle East's resources.

Why wouldn't they follow suit? Voters are happy sending troops off to die.

A mere trade block is much less commitment.

Microsoft had removed Huawei products from their website at the time of the Huawei fuss. But they have now started selling them again. I think it's got to do with the 90 days exception Huawei received. And Microsoft has made an official statement saying that they will continue their support for exisiting devices.

I own one and it's a bang for the buck. No bloat wares except for a Huawei device maintenance app. Only issue I had with it is that the fan makes a subtle noise even without any load and that triggers me so much. But it could be unique to just my device.

        Have you considered undervolting?

        • Thanks mate. I mistook the coil whine for fan noise. I'm planning on swapping the SSD soon and I'll undervolt it and see how it goes.

  • Got mine for 2100
    Love it
Be aware, these are probably a us power adapter

If the seller is Amazon instead of a third-party seller, it will be an AU power adaptor as it's official Australian stock.

  • Thanks for posting the deal, you were saying that the Core i5-8250U/8GB/256GB was listed on the Microsoft Store eBay for $1,419? I can only see them at $1,619.00, are there any coupon codes I need to use?

    • with the coupon code PLUSWKND

      • Super! Thank you for such a quick reply! Have a great weekend!

      • sorry.. just tried it.. it does not seem to work.. celebrated too soon.

You have to be an eBay Plus member to use the code (might need to put that in description OP?). Free 30 day trial if you haven't joined previously.

I have this and it's an amazing laptop.
I'm not sure how much the whole Huawei debacle affects their line of laptops…. everything works well out of the box, updates are mostly software anyway and it'll continue to get microsoft updates.

Touch screen is responsive. 3:2 ratio is great for productivity. Keyboard is perfect for typing (I didn't like the feel of lenovo keyboards).

    • +1

Yeah that is what I am wondering too. End of the day it works and software updates will still occur as usual

  • +3

Personally went and grabbed this deal. Thanks OP.

The matebook 13 (non PRO) for $1249 may be a better deal for those who aren't interested in the MX150 and are looking so save a couple dollars.

    • Thanks. This is exactly what I am looking for

  • Could we install Linux and use it as a normal laptop?

How can this be cheaper than an iPhone Max 512GB? Mind boggles.

Ram? Can't see it listed anywhere.

      It's 16GB.

    • RAM 0 TB 😄

  • Can I have some opinions on i7-8550U MX150 vs i5-8250U?

Is it worth $580($340 if 12% cashback) to go up to the i7 with dedicated graphics? I won't be using it for gaming as I've found that my bulky laptop with i5 7th+GTX1060 still feels laggy for gaming but I also don't want the lag I get using my current i5 7th gen from daily tasks.

  • +1

When I was looking (if I recall correctly), my main reason for the i7 option was for the 16gb of ram. I don't think you could get 16gb on the i5. I also wanted the mx150 for the possibility of light gaming occasionally - which swayed helped justify the extra $

  • If I purchase this, am I eligible for TRS?
