Top notch service from Starbuy. I received my last order with blazing speed. And even more amazingly, the Seiko I bought was fully aligned.

    • Agreed, have bought a few watches from StarBuy now and the dispatch/delivery is fantastic. I wish I could say the same about Seiko's service turnaround time though…

    • what do you mean by "fully aligned"? sorry, i'm a bit of a watch novice

      • He meant fully aligned bezel. Unlike the Swiss, Seikos, especially divers are notorious for not having fully aligned bezels!

      • Seiko has patchy QC. Is not uncommon to have misaligned bezel inserts and dials. The rate of occurrence seems higher than equivalent Swiss and even Chinese pieces.

  • Missed out on last week's CA0700-86E offer. Hope there'll be a repeat (or even better pricing!)

  • +3

Citizen AW1490-84E might be my first citizen!!!
    Keen

    • It's a very handsome looking piece.

    • +2

cant go wrong with eco drive, have three of them love them

      • Same for me, 3 of them and very happy, great value they looks very solid and well built in real.

    • Anyone know if it is made in Japan?

      • Tis not. It's also sold out.

        • made in china?

edit: i managed to buy one straight away and it got delivered today. However as it is a gift, i can't open it to check where it is made from. It looks so nice, i may just end up keeping it rather than giving it away!

          • @Oneiricer: The box shouldn't be sealed, so no harm taking it out of the box to inspect it.

That's an almost 100% guarantee you won't be gifting it though…

  • +1

    I think I'll grab a samurai.

  • +4

The Citizen AW1490-84E is an insanely good price IMO. Eco Drive, Sapphire Crystal and Titanium. Three pretty awesome features.

    • +1

Agreed. 41mm diameter too, so should suit a lot of wrists.

    • My thoughts exactly.

Will definitely be biting the bullet on this one.

  • Hi OP,

Is there any deals for Citizen GMT BJ7111-86L Promaster as before?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/455821
    https://www.starbuy.com.au/citizen-promaster-titanium-gmt-20…

By the way, personally I see that Citizen has better performance/price than Seiko. Most of Seiko watches in the list of Starbuy are not utilized with sapphire. What do you think?

    • +1

I'll check in with StarBuy and confirm. It all comes down to the supplier and availability of stock.

You certainly get a lot more options of sapphire from Citizen, especially under $500 than from Seiko. Titanium too, if you prefer the lighter weight on wrist.

    • +2

Confirmed BJ7111-86L will be on sale.

      • Great :D
        Thank you very much :D

  • +6

IT is very good to see the interests in posts like this about traditional watches in the era of Smart watches.

    • +1

One of the limited ways most men manage to sparkle, unless you want to shunt a ring through your donk i guess.

  • +1

    Nice selection

  • Would love the sat wave, but apparently I have "more watches than I will ever need" according to the missy. :-(

  • Hi OP - any Seiko 5 deals?

    • Any model in particular?

      • SRPC61 please

        • Not sure about this one. Stock may be unavailable.

  • Arrrg, decision time. My 20 year old Seiko Kinetic has stopped charging and is due for a service, last time cost around $250. I only pause because it was a birthday present from my wife and has sentimental value…… Or a new citizen with eco-drive?

    • +1

      Why not both?

  • +1

Please, any mini turtle deal? :)

    • Requested.

    • I hope you have picked one up. After these are gone, there will be no more available from Seiko.

    • After a Pepsi mini turtle Padi edition but sadly no deal :(

      • +1

While I can appreciate there will always be some who are disappointed that their ideal watch is not on sale, there is nothing to stop you from contacting StarBuy to ask for a deal or when a deal may be coming up.

They are very responsive and easy to deal with, as many of the positive feedback comments will attest to.

  • +4

Always upvote Starbuy. Can't fault their service at all.

    • +1

Same for me, got 3 ecodrive since last October from Starbuy, all 3 arrived in 2days, perfect boxing and papers. All 3 watches looking way more premium than their price and photo. Can't reccomend starbuy enough, price was always the best around, with local warranty.

  • How long do citizen's eco-drives last when compared to seiko's automatics? Probably going to go for the Citizen AW1490-84E

    • +1

      As in charge or lifetime?

10 months reserve if fully charged.

      • Sorry I meant lifetime and general reliability.

        • +1

I can only speak for my small collection of three, which I have not owned for longer than 2 years.

Extremely accurate and comfortable to wear. They do have a low profile so can tuck away nicely under a sleeve and the divers are excellent in the water and on a dressier strap.

Anyone else care to chime in with long term ownership?

    • +3

I've got a CA0021-53E (eco drive, sapphire & titanium) bought in 2010. It gets used most of the week and hasn't had any issues since I bought it. I also rotate with my seiko automatics, the main difference is that the seiko automatics when left unused for a couple of days, is that you have to set the time again. Eco-drives don't have this issue generally.

      • +1

…the seiko automatics when left unused for a couple of days, is that you have to set the time again.

Unless you choose to invest in a watch winder - like an automated shaker-maker.

    • +2

      Hey.

2 citizen Eco drive watches in regular wear.

BN0000-04H dive watch and a BJ7000-52E nighthawk both bought at the same time approximately 10 years ago and haven't missed a beat.

Both regularly spent time in the pool/ocean and occasional Scuba use down to 40m at least once each. So far so good. Having said that my seiko orange monster is slightly younger and has been at least as good.

    • Cheers all, my Citizen AW1490-84E arrived and it's a beauty…

  • +1

OP, can these watches stand up to pressures of the modern urban crime environment?

  • +1

    Op any deals for srpc25?

    • +1

Yes I would like to know as well

    • +1

      Requested.

      • Sorry chaps - looks like there is little to no stock available from Seiko for a deal.

  • Anything Japan Made comin up?

    • You will need to be more specific with model requests.

      • Will the ssa379j1 be on sale, can currently get it for $500.

        • Doesn't look like it's on the StarBuy website…?

  • +1

I wasn't planning on buying a new watch but that AW1490-84E is gorgeous.

    • +1

That's a particularly good buy @ $199 - Titanium, Sapphire, 41cm (not too big for most).

      • That's great because my wrists are small.

        • +1

Instructions on the Citizen Australia site, not that you'll need them.

Make sure you keep the endorsed warranty booklet as the warranty travels with the watch (ie: is transferable).

  • +2

Cant wait to pull the trigger on the Seiko SRPB99K PADI Samurai in the morning.

    Thanks OP!

    • +1

Might have to wait just a little tad longer as OP mentioned, the sale starts from 'midday'. But agreed. Can't wait! I've been hunting for my replacement watch and birthday present and have been talking to starbuy recently as well. Can't wait for their sale tomorrow .

  • Any deal on this Gorgeous srpc99j please.

  • Note the Citizen Eco Drive BM8470-03A is back under $100 for those seeking a cheaper option.

  • @lesterfreamon Likely restocks of SRPC79J ?

  • Still waiting for the SRPC83J to come back into stock (if it ever does).

    • Most likely not. JDM only now.

      • So sad to hear that. :(

  • wondering if fools gold solar tuna is going on sale, missed out last time….or the padi turtle looks nice too. Decisions..

  • +1

I hope the new monster on the bracelet is in this sale. I'm ready to pounce.

  • +1

A handful more have been added to the list with prices TBC before the sale tomorrow.

  • +2

The SRPB41J cocktail is going to tempt me if it's on sale.

  • Watch noob here. I know Seiko are Japanese, but not all of their watches are actually made in Japan?

    • +1

Correct. Some models in their ranges offer the choice of both, but more often than not, are Japanese grey import if sold outside Japan ie Seiko 5, Prospex Samurai, Turtle etc.

Presage series are made in Japan only and are available in all markets.

An easy to identify J at the end of the model number will flag a made in Japan watch.

  • Great post, OP.

Any deals on the SPB079J or other SPB models?

  • Thanks OP, keep up the great work!
    Any deals on SRPC93K?

    • Not really. Very little stock on hand as it is now discontinued.

  • No harm in asking the question I guess, any chance of a deal on the JY8088-83L?

    • I've been advised no deals on any Nighthawk/Navihawk/Blue Angels editions from Citizen this time round.

      • Many thanks!

  • Kinda tossing up between the Seiko SRPB99K and the Citizen AW1490-84E, any advise? Or am I on the wrong track altogether? Just looking for something nice and relatively timeless :)

    • They are quite different. The case and dial on the Seiko are fantastic, especially at the price. A very modern looking automatic dive watch.

I would argue the Citizen is the kind of watch you would keep for longer. Titanium, sapphire and a sleek dial make it very versatile indeed.

Or, you could just get both.

  • Any deal on a SBDC063?

    • Negative. Don't see it up on their website either?

      • No worries, I noticed on their website it is the JDM version of the SPB079 mentioned above. I'm already well stocked in lower range Seiko divers.

  • +3

Been waiting for a deal on the original turtle SRP777K. Anything planned?
