This e-mail landed in my inbox earlier today, so thought this was a good offer for people in the market for a new telly set or a new PC.

  • Glad I didn't take the plunge last weekend!

  • I bought a VAIO vpcsb16fg several weeks ago when they were doing 30% off all computers.

  • wow that's good price. Do I get free delivery if I buy a TV?

  • This come of the $299 soniq 32" LCD?

    • Read 3rd line of description, "Please note that this offer excludes Soniq & Okano TV sets as well as Apple, Sony Vaio and Tablets"

  • Useless for TV's, if you're paying sticker price at any time you're getting ripped off. Should be able to get atleast 15% off, and sometimes these sales mean that they wont budge on that discount (when otherwise you can get more).

Great deal for laptops, the asus u31f down to $660 which is pretty solid for a powerful, longlife portable (could probably pricematch elsewhere to get amex cashback). Be sure to check if centrecom, mln etc will beat the price or throw in a small upgrade(or they may have the lappy you watch cheaper already).

  • JB Hifi extended warranties are the ripoff. They quoted me around $300 on a tv last weekend for a 4 year extended warranty. Bing Lee quoted me $189 on the same tv, & they matched JBs price on the tv! Also got the latest premium Samsung 3D glasses for $120 a pair, when the list is $189.

    • Note that pretty much all extended "warranties" are a rip off - if you ever need it fixed/replaced they have policies in place to stuff you around (pretend to test it, then send it back saying "it works" to see if you'll bother returning it again, then giving you one someone else returned, and so on until the extended warranty expires).

All of this happens years later, when the item you bought is now cheaper than the amount you payed for extended warranty in the first place. That is, if you managed to keep the warranty paperwork for years.

      • I couldn't agree more, the extended warranty is really just the salesman's commission. I can't believe how many people get sucked into though and think they're getting a great deal. I'd love to see the statistics of how many items get returned during that 'extended warranty' period, i'd bet it's not many…

        • If you check out eBay you can see all the recent model Samsung 'manufacturer refurbished' tvs on sale. These are all repaired machines. Grays Online regularly auction lots of repaired electronics for various manufacturers too, including Sony Panasonic, etc. If you are spending $2000 upwards on a tv you want more than a 12 month manufacturers warranty. If it's a $299 soniq tv I guess it doesn't matter so much if it fizzes out after a year.

  • Damn, only 50hz :(

    • Do you happen to know if DLNA only supports certain codecs and does it differ per brand?

Have not done much research in to this yet :P

      • Not really, my pc is plugged into my tv, my parents have the wdtv. Although i will say that there other panasonic tv has DLNA but couldnt play mkv files.

      • Samsung has it's own free DLNA Software "PC Share Manager" which supports limited codecs (not mkv), but works well.
Sony doesn't really have one so we use "Mezzmo" which is really good and supports most codecs.
Easily better than other software around in my experience.
Both can run on the same PC without any problem.

Great chance to pick up one of the new Panasonic range tv's, being a new model normally they dont discount them too much as demand is really strong.. so 15% off you would think would be worth while

  • Good deal on some of the catalogue lines when u take another 15% off them.

    LG 60" $1798 last week now $1998, so really a 5% discount !!!!

I won't buy anything from jb.bought logitech laptop riser n110 from OW for $19.50 but at jb $39.ordered home alone collection dvd from amazon uk for $9 but at jb jaw dropping $75 and so on.reailers here are so greedy however very poor customer services.

    • But I don't think you will buy a big TV from overseas.

  • Grabbed a cheapo Palsonic 32" Full HD LCD TV for $310 (I asked the guy for what it came down to after the 15% off the ticketed price of $399 and he gave me $310, I didn't even bargain down).

Good cheapo TV for the bathtub :P

    • Ha they need to learn how to calculate.

Yeah, that immediately popped up into my head (like.. $310? that's not 15% off mate…), but my ozbargain brain center quickly took over and shut my smart a** up :)

And he didn't even upsell extended warranty to me, just quick quote and pay. Lovely. :)

Castle hill branch btw for anyone interested.

Cut the poor guy some slack, I think that's close enough. It's great to see that JB is giving homeless people jobs.

  • Thanks for the heads up - looking at Hisense HL55V89PZ 55" Full HD LCD TV for $1094.80 with free shipping - anyone bought one of these before or seen one running and have an opinion on the image quality?
I have 5 year old 32" 720p Samsung which it would be replacing - surely it must be better than that?

  • Seems a lot of them have gone. Their website only shows a few models you can buy.

  • Good tip if you have time is to go physically into a store as you get a bit of bargaining power there (on top of the 15% off ticketed price promo). Whereas the online catalogue is much more limited. :)

  • Nice sharing
