Picked up one of these during the week and really happy with it, will be good for printing out the occasional family happy snap.

Usual price is $179 but normally dips to $140-150 on sale. $129 looks like the cheapest it’s been for at least the last 6 months judging by Pricehipster. Amazon was also $129 last weekend but back up to >$160 now.

Need to purchase paper/ink combo separately, Big W sells the 54-pack for $29 here which works out to be $0.54/print.

Further 5% off available using Woolworths gift card via Cashrewards

This doesn’t seem the OzBargain way when you can get snaps printed for 20c instantly.

Yeah, this would be more of a convenience thing. You can't even make the argument that in the long run it would be cheaper, since you'd have to print 645 photos for this to be worth it. And I can't see why someone would want to do that haha

      • You would have to print more than 645 to be worth it Paper and ink refills to consider

I have this printer, it's decent quality

  • 54 cents a print actually doesnt seem that bad (assuming the quality is OK).

In the past, portable printers have had astronomical per print pricing.

The quality is extra glossy as you are stuck with their crappy photo paper. It you prefer matte you are out of luck :(

Op I find buying from cannon themselves to be the cheaper option for paper (they usually have some level of discount from time to time also)

https://store.canon.com.au/postcard-size-paper-and-ink-pack-… is $39 for 108 prints. They also offer free shipping.

6x4 is 10c a print and I'm sure we all have multiple coupons for 50x free prints at HN.

They often give away free cards for 50 free prints too.

It would take years and years and years to pay this thing off by the time you factor in Cost of printer, Paper, Ink etc.

If you were to buy the printer and paper and ink it would be $148 for 72 prints.
    That's $2.05 a print!

    • You obviously dont buy this if you dont care about the convenience and am purely concerned about the cost factor.

And the more you print, the cheaper the cost per print becomes if you factor in the cost of the printer like you did

The 108 pack from Canon becomes 36 cents per print (not including printer). I think it is a very reasonable deal for the convenience

We’ve had these printers for years - great for single one off photos for the kids to take to school for show and share - and you can print to it over wifi direct from iPhone.

We found digidirect sales means you can buy 328 paper & ink for less than $100 which is a good price per print.

Was going to post this same deal but predicted the expected responses. I bought one last week and I love it. I don't have time to sit and think about which photos to send for printing or to go to a store and sit at a photo booth and my time is worth something too. I love that I can just print the photo right then and there from my phone, It's awesome for finishing off baby books, scrap booking, giving family a keepsake from their visit and the alike. Not only this but I can also print photos to test how they'd look in certain configurations for wall hanging, then if I need to send the photos off for a quality print somewhere I can. I am paying a high price for convenience and if you can afford the luxury then I do recommend this device.

I think some are missing the point here by comparing it to printing services at Officeworks etc.

The whole design of this printer is to be portable while still being able to print to 6x4 standards.
The design & the printing method they chose is very clever and suited to its purpose & compact size (Note: read the instructions carefully when setting up the ink cartridge, there were a few important steps when putting in a brand new cartridge).
You are able to print wherever you want (even cordless if you get the optional battery) and it produces a very good quality print which is instantly resistant to water, and according to Canon will last 100 years before any noticeable degradation, colour fading etc (Disclaimer: like with any other print prolonged exposure to sunlight will cause damage).

The resulting print reminds me exactly of a photo from a film camera. The detail & colour is very good, so you will easily notice the difference when printing a photo taken from a DSLR vs smart-phone camera.
The printer can broadcast its own WiFi signal, so anyone or you can print direct from DSLR or smart-device with WiFi, or just stick in memory.

    Some notes:
It prints by layering one colour at a time (blue / red / yellow etc) onto the printing paper, so the paper goes back & forth / in & out of the printer a few times, this requires it to need more room than the actual printer’s size.
Also because of the printing method used, I would be careful around dust & other particles. I myself keep it stored in its original box, and would avoid using it in windy areas with possible particles in the air (sand / dirt at the beach etc) if you want to protect the printer and get optimal prints.

Also depending on the light you are under the photos may appear too warm or cold (this threw me off in the beginning) and you will notice it’s only the light you are under (e.g. if you are under a warm light, take out your phone flashlight and you will see the print change in white balance).
You can also fine tune the colour balance, so I prefer to have it one notch towards red (from default centre) in the printer colour settings.
One annoying thing is it resets the setting every time you turn it on, so I have to set the colour setting everytime. When using the battery it may remember the settings (I use it only with the power cable).

  • Grabbed the last one at my local Big W, thanks OP!

  • Does anyone know the difference between the two inks from Canon linked above - KP-108IN and RP-108?

Both appear to be same qty, size and according to the specs listed is compatible with the Cp1300?

    Cheers.

I prefer RP-108 myself, as far as I can remember the difference is what’s on the back of the paper.
KP-108 (blue) has postcard format on the back (place for stamp and writing lines etc), RP-108 (orange) just has Canon logos (double checked this just now on a RP-108 print).

In the KP-108 description: “Get creative with these Postcard size images Ideal for albums and photo frames just print and post!

My guess is they are selling more RP-108 so they are trying to make the differences less obvious.
