I get heat pumps for dryers and A/C but is it really worth spending this much for one on a dishwasher, (unless its in a commercial environment?) I would have thought the payback period for the electricity would be like 100 years… after the dishwasher has died and been replaced…

I get that's its a premium product, maybe i'm just the wrong audience…

    • Agreed. Nearly 2 and a half grand after 2 and a half grand discount is just insane.

    • Agreed. A far better way is to go Solar Hot Water then buy a Dishwasher capable of connecting to a Hot supply (not all can!). Been doing this for the last 12 months and it's been excellent. Highly recommended.

    • Though I do agree with you that these are premium products at a premium price, with the discount and the price point that we are selling these the comparable products on the market still don't have the technology that this dishwasher posses, and when used comparably to a conventional dishwasher could half your energy bill as they do retain more heat compared to a normal dishwasher, it is essentially the same reason why Heat-Pump dryers are so much more popular these days.

Have 2 v-zug ovens and would've loved this deal a year ago. V-zug is fantastic

      • My point is, it takes maybe 5 minutes to heat water in a dishwasher, lets say a standard dishwasher has a 2KW element.
at even 1 full load (washes) a day, that's 6 loads to use 1kwh in heating (not over all electricity use of the dishwasher, only the heating component), so lets call it 30 cents in heating of the water in a dishwasher per week …(assuming ~25c per kwh) extrapolate that out to 1 year, =52*.30 - 15.60 dollars a year in electricity, (for heating) now if a heat pump saves half the half of that, that's saving about 7.80 a year in electricity for heating water.

normal "premium" dishwasher without heat pump is about 1,500 - so the heat pump unit is 1,000 dollarydoos more, saving 7.80 a year….. it will "only" take 128 years to pay off! - So my initial estimates seemed to be about correct. - 100 years - after the unit has died … to pay back the difference using the heat pump.

(Even if we double or quadruple the initial electricity figures, its still a crazy pay back - and my above figures have assumed at least 1 load per day, i know we dont use ours that much.)

Dyer payback is like a few years (because they do use so much more energy 2-4kwh per load easily enough, heater, even better, but dishwasher, i think the heat pump is a bit of a sales pitch.

        • My dishwasher uses about 1kwh of electricity to do a load on its least efficient setting. Let's say I like that setting and 60% of that is heating water using grid electricity so that is 0.6 * 36c = 21.6c per load (I'm in SA). (I could use solar or gas hot water with a compatible dishwater or run the dishwasher during the day using solar energy if I have panels or choose a more efficient cycle, but let's stick with that).

Over the course of a year using it once a day that's $79 and lets say the heat pump reduces it to take 30% of the original amount of electricity (quite plausible for a heat pump) - that's a $55 saving a year for pretty much the most optimistic scenario I can imagine. It probably isn't completely impossible to save money, but it is pretty close. Then again, sometimes these things do come down in price eventually and somebody has to fund the initial development, so maybe it will be a good thing one day.

          • @mps41: I think your numbers are insanely "optimistic" to say the least, even with your crazy high optimistic numbers of 55 bux a year saving, that's like a 18 year payback period… future value of a dollar, plus the fact that your paying higher than the rest of the country in energy means its just not worth it - specially for the rest of us…

imagine if you just invested the 1k in shares or similar, you'd probably make more than the 55 per year, lol. (5.5%)
or just invest it in solar panels, and run the dishwasher during the day.

          • @mps41: Where does the heat pump output the cold air? Will you be paying to heat the room being cooled by this dishwasher?

This actually makes sense for commercial venues in hot climates. But like someone else said, a rooftop solar hot water unit would be so much more worthwhile for the money.

    • I think the target market is 'idiot greenies', which is not a descriptive term for greenies (some of whom are quite smart), but rather a sub-section of the 'idiot' group, whose primary attribute is defined by their propensity to make bad decisions.

      • Id rather just pay momentum energy for our electricity, 100% renewable energy…

or invest the extra 1000 in generating electricity, heck buy some solar panels, will still end up ahead and generate more power than a dishwasher uses in a clean manor.

  • V-Zug standard warranty 2 years. Yes you would expect the ACL would extend this significantly, however curious when compared to BSH products like Neff (4 years) and Siemens (5 years). Especially the eye-watering RRPs…

  • Since it’s a heat pump does that make it too heavy to stack?

    • Hey Manny, I think you might be mistaking this for a dryer, it is a dishwasher.

      • +3

I was going for a stacking the dishwasher pun, but it seems to have washed out :(
