[Virgin Customers] Virgin Mobile Waiving Upgrade Fees (with Less than 6 Months Remaining on Contract)

100

I have a phone contract with Virgin Mobile who are closing later this year. I logged in to my account to have a look at the offers Optus are offering and noticed Virgin are waiving the rest of the contract fees if you port to Optus.

Switched from my current $60 a month iPhone plan to a $30 a month sim only plan without having to pay any cancellation fees.

Yep only available to customers with six months remaining. I was told at 8 months prior to contract end that I would get an email at 6 months but that never happened. I'm glad I waited an extra month because optus had some good specials on this month. Didn't know I could change to a sim only plan and save.

    • 7 months left on mine, d'oeth!

      • I'm sure you can negotiate, if you said you'd head to Telstra otherwise. I mean Virgin are owned by Optus, they'd want to get as many as possible over there.

      • You can just pay 1 month bill, thats what I did.

        • how? Optus plans aren't too good for me atm
If they had a 30/35 dollar plan with 20gb that would have been ideal

          • @shole: Yeah it's annoying that it goes from a 3GB plan to 40GB on the next tier up. I only need about 10GB or so.

this has been the case for the past year.

  • Yep, ported over a few months ago. Decent deal.

  • I did similar at 6months to go a year ago, not a new offer.

They've been doing this since at least last October. I had a plan with them due to expire in April and they waived the remaining phone repayment fees on my plan when I connected to Optus.

Great deal, thank you. I switched over, with $600 left on my current plan that I was going to pay anyway that brings the overall cost down.

  • I ported to Optus last year, no cancellation fees.

I'm with Virgin, with ~3 months to go and have seen the Optus offers. Given I use 3GB/month data, I'm planning on going over to Boost on their $150/yr plan, with 80GB data. I assume too I'd get better coverage given Boost use the Telstra network

    • That's what I did. Grabbed a first SIM card on half price special and used $100/6mths 60Gb recharge.

What happens if you have a mobile phone in the contract? I assume you will have to pay out the remaining installments?

I have an iPhone on the plan for $60 and they let me change to a sim only plan for $30, seems like Virgin are writing off the remaining fees.

      • Ah that's great! Thanks!

Been the same since last year. They keep sending me "deals" to change over with no penalties. But they're not as good as what I'm on.

  • I switched over when Optus had the BYO $40 80gb and 4gb roaming deal - the best deal so far. Virgin waived the cancellation (5 months plus remaining on $100 Ip8+ plan) and pro rata my old plan.

  • how about mbb? is it the same sort of migration?

  • is it possible to switch to a month to month?

  • I have 9 months left, virgin website said $459 will be waived. Head over to Optus website and it says I have to pay remaining $459 to Virgin?
