  • Anyone know if this deal is still valid for the original PS4 1TB, rather than just the slim?

    • Doubt it

      • +3

Damn, I am keen to trade in my original PS4.

        • +2

Bugger! I have the OG PS4 too and would want to take up this deal! Might pop into Melbourne Central later today and check options

          • +2

@nismo: Let us know if they have any options that aren't terrible.

            • +5

@lukebeau: Just confirmed in store, it will cost $229 for any other ps4, meaning 500gb or 1tb (non slim model).

The lady mentioned the games do not matter at all, it's any 2 games.

The trade in deal is irrespective of member level. The level only matters if you wanted to trade in more games than the 2 required (which you can do to bring the price down further).

              • @nismo: Not bad. Will call up first thing tomorrow to confirm then do it.

        • You can trade in your OG PS4, but you won't get the $199 price, it will probably be closer to $299(better depending on what lv of eb world you are). I got mine for about $250 about 12 months ago now with a launch PS4 with lv 4 EB world.

You'll be able to trade back the Anthem copy that comes with it though for an extra $1 off that though.

    • +2

I'm pretty sure they will do a deal, you might pay $30 or $50 more depending on the model. Give them a call or go in, there is a price list on their system which will tell you how much extra you pay.

I did similar thing with the last Xbox One X deal, deal was for a 500GB slim, i traded a OG XBONE and paid any extra $49.

    • +1

Fingers crossed they'll accept the original PS4 I've got that's on its last legs, lmao

      • They will, just wont be the $199 price

    • Yes

But it's the same price regardless of which 500gb/1tb console that you trade in.

  • +6

They're probably trying to get more sales before the release of PS5.

    Rumoured November 2020 @ US$399 - Source

Analysts have predicted the PS5 price to be $499, and Mark Cerny himself has said that the PS5 price will be “appealing.” While Cerny's statement is open to interpretation, it seems safe to say that Sony won't repeat the mistake of pricing a console at $599.

    • +1

Doubt it, they'll look to clear around Christmas this year I reckon.

PS4 Pros have recently been $424 or so, with no games (not that Anthem is worth anything), making it $225 trade value for the PS4 slim + 2 games, which EB are still selling for $278.40 (no games)

    • +2

Is that copy paste of the same text of the analyst price of ps4 and they just replace PS4 with ps5?

I don't see how ps5 could be priced cheaper than PS4 with the beef hardware that it will be getting. Expect launch price to be 600 aud at best.

      • +1

Couldn't edit the quote due to Spackbase's quick commenting, but it's in USD. US$399=~AUD$599.

        also; Quote source.

        • Yea but your whole comment block comes from the same source which is in USD. PS3 launched at $599 USD, PS4 at $399 USD. Estimate of $499 USD for PS5 is fair but $399 USD is not possible.

The part that tries to even say Sony won't repeat the mistake for $599 does not make sense because that was PS3 -> PS4 prediction and Sony indeed did not make the console expensive.

The sentence you quote would make much more sense if it was PS4 price prediction since it makes no sense to use PS3 price to predict PS5 price. Here is when I replace your quote text ps5 to ps4:

Analysts have predicted the PS4 price to be $499, and Mark Cerny himself has said that the PS4 price will be “appealing.” While Cerny's statement is open to interpretation, it seems safe to say that Sony won't repeat the mistake of pricing a console at $599.

          • @Letrico: I see where you're coming from, however they're using that as an example. PS3 = USD$599 - over priced, negatively viewed. PS4 = USD$399, positively viewed. PS5 = "appealing", so unlikely be negatively viewed like PS3 was.

Obviously, we won't know until an official press release or information is leaked. My guess is USD$499 / AU$799 (due Aussie inflation tax), but like you say, unlikely US$399. (One of the reasons why I added the additional quote / source in, to counter that US$399 source).

My point of posting wasn't to create fake news, but to allow OzBargainers to make a strong economic choice on whether to 'upgrade' now, or to hold off until either a) bigger bargains happen closer to PS5 announcements, or b) wait until next gen comes out. If PS5 was rumoured to come out in 2025, then it makes this upgrade a better deal.

            • +2

@rompastompa: I know what you are trying to say but if anyone is planning to get/upgrade ps4 now, they will not likely won't get PS5 on launch.

          • @Letrico: There's supposed to be an 8 core zen 2 processor and Navi 5700 equivalent GPU. The CPU and GPU alone retail for that price each. Manufacturer discount blah blah but no way in hell the whole console is going to be $399.

Even selling at $599 USD Sony would probably be making a loss on every console. They probably will bite the bullet and price it under that, but $399 no way.

            • @[Deactivated]: Consoles are all launched at a loss tho but I reckon the price will be minimum at what PS4 pro launched at. For sure we won't be getting zen 2 + navi gpu. It will be another custom APU with zen2 cpu and probably hybrid vega/navi gpu. If PS5 is launching next holiday, that means the dev kit and hardware would have been finalized last year at least which navi was not on the table.

            • @[Deactivated]:

The CPU and GPU alone retail for that price each.

              That means nothing.

Intel CPU margin is 60% for example - while delusional morons believe a theory that competition lowers prices and therefore there is no margin for business, every cost is passed on.

    • +1

I'm gonna say it will be very unlikely that the price will be cheaper than the current PS4 Pro price is.

  • Whats the trade in value on Anthem itself?

    • +2

Probably next to nothing. Big W are selling it for $17 new (and EB $19)

    • wouldn't be more than $5, if they even accept it. Some games they have too many copies on, they don't accept.

  • Any two games or? I like my current games and i wouldn't want to trade them. Is it possible to get two shitty dirt cheap games for the trade in?

    • +1

I'd probs give 'em LBP3 and Killzone Shadowfall if they'll take em.

    • Yes that is what I will do if I am in your place. Any two ps4 games doesn't matter what cheers

  • +3

Is the pro really worth the upgrade?

    • +1

It is good in performance wise as lot of games run more smoothly and with higher frame rates on Pro.I think it is very worth for a upgrade

      • +3

Worth noting that a lot of games do not have higher frame rates on a Pro. I was interested in trying out Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War plus a few others but they're still locked at 30fps even on the stronger hardware. I'm waiting to see if the inevitable PS5 rereleases support 60fps or if they're going to focus on silly crap like 8k and raytracing instead of smooth gameplay.

        • Yeah but it’s a smoother and more stable 30.

          • @cnut: Exactly, I play a lot of Destiny 2 and it can have a lot of chaotic events at once that cause others to complain about frame rate drop (from 30fps) that I never experience on a Pro.

        • its true that majority of games are locked at 30fps, but getting a new console with better hardware than its cheaper counterpart expecting for high frames is inevitable. games like HZD and GoD were made to be optimized on older ps4 models and the "PS4 Pro Enhanced" sticker is only a texture quality beautifier. a game that pops in my head that benefits for better hardware is fallout 4/76. less lag in closely dense areas that require bigger hardware to have a stable fps. but even fallout is locked at 30fps (even on pc but can be config to turn off v-sync)

i could be completely wrong and i welcome for people to argue against anything i said. havn't done my research and love to learn more

        • +1

side note. i really hate that sony and especially microsoft are advertising their next gen console for 8k output and raytracing.
first of all, i feel that majority of people are still using 1080p monitors (including myself) for their games and honestly is enough.
raytracing is such a silly gimmick imo but coming from a 3D artist background, having live raytracing is amazing when they first announced it but it eats fps like no tomorrow. im happy with my inaccurate global illumination and square pixel shadows.

i do like they showed off the new unannounced NVMe sdd for cuts load times by alot.

do wish they do a trade in sale like this one for the ps5

    • Definitely, especially with a 4K TV but a 1080p TV will also see a massive improvement.

    • If you have 4k HDR TV then yes it is worth the upgrade. If not the performance is a little negligible and not many games uses the extra power to provide more performance, it does make it prettier by downsampling.

    • +1

It isn't if you just bought a PS4 within the last 12 months.

It is if you can get a good deal and your PS4 is old.

You'll get just over a year of better performance with the Pro. And better trade-in deals when the PS5 comes out late next year.

Or if you opt to keep the system for a year or two then a better performance experience over the base model during that time (and eventual resale value).

    • If you got a 4k tv, i'd say yes.

other than that, you'd be getting more smoother and higher res/frames with the boost performance.

also loading the Ps store was pretty quick, unlike my OG ps4 which takes some time to fully load the page.

  • Good deal. But make sure you try and swap anthem for literally any other game.

    • Swap with Destiny 2? ;)

  • +2

If only they didn't throw Anthem in with it I might jump on it. /sarcasm

    • +1

At this point, they’d have to pay me to play it.

    • +1

They could've thrown in Fallout 76.

  • +1

Shame it's only slim and not OG PS4

  • eb almost certain takes the old ps4 but for a lower price.
dont forget amazon prime days are coming up very soon and u can bet the ps4 pro will b going fairly cheap.

    • +2

I like the idea of trading in (even though EB are double-dipping) because currently at home, I have all of the following consoles (not including any hand-held ones):

      1 x PS (original from the 90's)
      2 x Xbox 360 (one partly dead)
      1 x PS2
      1 x PS3 Slim
1 x PS4 phat with 1TB (probably upgraded it myself and forgot, bought from the Real Dick Smith in Dec 2014).

I don't really need more consoles without getting rid of the old one/s - (and yes, I cannot be stuffed selling on eBay / Gumtree and dealing with idiots to get a few dollars back)

  • +1

Last time there was a similar deal with the XB1X (trading in an XB1S) they allowed to trade in games from PS4 too, so I wouldn't be surprised if you could trade in XB1 games for this deal.

They also allowed you to trade in older versions of the XB1 paying an additional $50 AUD or so. Could be the same this time with the OG PS4.

    • You can trade in an original Xbox one and 2 games to get Xbox one X + 4 games for $399.

  • Upvoted. This is beyond tempting. :((((

  • +2

i rang an ebgames store and the guy on the phone told me you can trade any current consolde games but must have a trade in value of $10 or more for each of the games trading in. Also when trading in the conosole you must have the controller that came with the console, power cable and HDMI cable.

    • The controller charge cable is also required for console trade-ins.

      • Jeepers - I wouldn't even know which one that is! Cables aplenty! Hopefully they'll take any equivalent.

This does seem like an easy way to trade up without needing to sell on eBay etc, though I am tempted to see what Amazon can do on Prime Day… decisions decisions!

  • +1

I was quoted the following trade-in values when I asked at an EB Games store about two months ago (they might have changed since E3 and EOFY), excludes any EB World bonuses that stack on top of it:

    • PS4 launch console 500GB - $180 store credit, $150 cash

    • PS4 Pro 1TB - $250 store credit, $210 cash

I didn't ask about the PS4 slim console but you can extrapolate a value around $210-220 store credit / $180 cash from those two quotes if those trade-in values are still valid.

Also some old games I recently traded in as a guide to what you can probably get for other games around the same age (before EB World bonuses):

    • FIFA 16 - $1
    • Star Wars: Battlefront 1 - $2.50
    • Division 1 - $4
    • COD: Ghosts - $9
    • Do they pay you cash for your trade-ins?
I thought they only offer you trade-in values towards purchases from them.

      • they certainly do, when I traded in my Dualshock 4 v1 back in april, they offered me $36 in cash but $44 in giftcard, i chose the giftcard option and then bought a dualshock 4 v2 for an extra $5.

    • PS4 launch console 500GB - $180 store credit, $150 cash

Traded in mine very recently and got back $160 store credit (excluding EB World bonuses)

  • My slim is 2+ years old now. I'm tempted. I'll have to look up how to wipe all my account data off it though.
Also a little alarming that one person says you can trade in any ps4 games while another says the games have to have $10 trade value minimum.

Games locked at 30 FPS anyway do run better, and the console probably has faster load times in general over base slim/base ps4, as well as running much quieter at 1080p.

Some 60 FPS games also run WAY better on Pro, while on base, they struggle, even going as low as 40-50 fps. A recent example of this is Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. https://youtu.be/LcamTEsNu8k?t=924 timestamp 15:24 the base PS4 the game runs between 45-50 to 60 fps depending on the area, while the Pro runs it a perfect 60 fps, with the most taxing areas it barely dips to 58-59 fps. https://youtu.be/LcamTEsNu8k?t=820 timestamped ps4 pro footage

    • +1

I asked about the deal in store and they said there was no trade in value required for the games unlike the $10 min trade value of previous deals.

  • I'm tempted to trade in my PS4 Slim with a copy of NBA2K17 and FIFA17 if they're willing to accept it

  • Can you trade in a limited edition uncharted 4 ps4?

    • +1

you can they will still consider it as a normal fat ps4 model not slim. They will value it accordingly.

  • Does anyone know how long this deal runs for?
Away from the country and only will be back mid July.

    • I asked in store yesterday and the lady said the deal is indefinite (no end date as such), but added it may vary in price in future.

  • i still have the original ps4, should i wait for ps5 or trade it in for the ps4 pro?

    • Do you have PSVR?

    • Only you can answer that, do you want an upgrade now or can you wait?

  • Wondering how long will this offer last

  • confirmed $229 with original ps4 with any 2 ps4 games

PS4 pro will have sales throughout the year to clear all the old stock as the 2tb version should be releasing soon.

  • +1

Hi All called Ebgames this morning there Is no date when the promotion period will finish. I think they might have certain no. of consoles to trade. Once that mark is reach they might stop it then. Also it is any two games there is no value that it has to be $10. It can be the crappiest game you find dirt cheap or something you don't want to see in you collection.

    • Any idea on what the cost would be if we gave an Original PS4 and not slim?

      • $229. Read above.

        • I asked in-store and they said an extra $100. Pricks. $229 isn't bad.

          • @cyrax83: Really? I did mine today and they just looked at some internal page and told me $229.

      • Hey cyrax83. I dropped into EB at lunch and they said my cost to trade an old Destiny White 500gb console and two shit games is $229, but the price drops to $202 with EB Member level status. I'm in at that price.

        • Edit. EB backflipped on the EB member discount. Supposedly head office said to do so. Cost me $229.

  • Any PS4 Pro owners who have tried PSVR on both the standard and Pro and noticed any real improvement? The XB1x is my main console but I'm very tempted to trade up to the Pro if it will boost my PSVR experience a little.

Though, gotta say, the main thing holding me back is the extra width of the console - won't be as easy as lifting out the PS4 slim and putting in the Pro as it won't fit beside the Fetch Mighty PVR in the ent unit… wifey will notice things… ;)

    • I have a PSVR and traded my slim for a pro. I would say using the PSVR on the pro is more comfortable. The image is clearer and gives me much less eye strain.

  • +1

Hey. Thought I'd comment again. I traded in my PS4 slim and 2 games (cod infinite warfare and battlefront 2 lol) and it was all fine. They told me they will take any PS4, Xbox one or switch games that work. Thought I'd update.

Beware if you are trading in your old system to take your psn account user info off of it and then re initialise the device to it's default settings. (It can take a few hours, mine took 3+ hours). Make sure to do a full initialize not quick. Also when it is done triple check your info is clean and off it.

    • Most importantly, deactivate your PS4 if its the primary console as it can only be done via the console or via your account.
Below are taken from Sony Support webpage. The Deactivate all is a drag if you have multiple ps vita, ps3 and ps4 as you need to log in manually onto their security password generator.

If You Do Not Have Access to Your Activated PS4™
If your PS4™ system is lost or stolen, or if your account has been compromised, you can deactivate the PS4™ from your account on PlayStation™Network from the web browser. You can only deactivate the primary system once every 6 months via the web.

      Follow the steps below:
      Sign in to PlayStation™Network.

In the Account section, select [Other Settings].

When you see the message “You will go to another page”, click [Continue].

Go to [Devices] tab and click [PlayStation® Systems] from the column on the left.

      Click on [Deactivate All] button.

You will be asked to verify your decision. Select [Yes] or [No]. If you select [Yes], you won't be able to deactivate your system until after 6-months.

Keep your account secure and never share your account information with anyone.

PLUS always have the 2 step verification for the extra security but uncertain if that really helps as Sony has been hacked several times lol.

  • I took them up on this deal, traded Anthem back straight away and got $5 store credit, $4 if you get cash.

    • Wait, so if you don't want Anthem, they only give you $5 store credit? zzzz

      • yep, the game tanked hard lol

  • My ps4 slim has a busted optical drive.
Will they take it at all or not?

  • +1

Traded in my OG white PS4 today for the White PRO (OG well earned retirement for all those years)

They'll still honor the deal, but it'll be an extra $30 ($199 for the slim, 229 for OG)

You'll still need to trade in 2 games (i chose ME andromeda and Destiny 2 vanilla), along side you'll also have to provide 1 controller ( traded my extra V1 for a brand new V2 ) and the base cable for the PS4

Well traded because I have a 4k tv, happy with the deal and also got some discount off the final price because of my EB membership level :)

    Thanks OP and EB <3

Note: You can choose to leave Anthem out, for me they'll take off another $12, the game was selling for $15

Note 2: Also for those with PT (playable teaser) on your console, best back up everything before you trade, i don't think you can download that ever again.
Also check that there's no disc in the drive before you trade.
Don't worry about reformatting to erase all your data, they'll do it for you.

  • Traded in mine today. Only had one game to get rid of, so took whatever the cheapest pre-owned disc they had for $7 and used that for trade in :)
So paid $207 and got my Pro.
Didn’t have the USB cable.. gave them just the console, controller, power, hdmi cables.

    • Do they do a full test to see if it’s all working?

      • Not affiliated, can’t remove the tag though lol

  • On a Brand New PS4 PRO????

    • That is correct. If you click OP's poster link you will see the deal, which costs $549 if not trading in.

      • neW MODEL? the quiet one?
Yea i clicked the link but doesn't say new, just wanted in written form

  • Deal expired. It's now Slim PlayStation 4 Console + Anthem for $329.

    • Saw it at docklands eb today and still on

      • Likewise Brisbane city

        • Don't think Sydney has it still on. Went into my local EB Games, didn't see a poster, I even asked. Told me trade in value is $370 trade in for the Pro.

  • I managed to trade my PS4 original 500gb this morning at EB games Macarthur Square in NSW. I did have to pay $30 extra to make it $229 in total.

The guy took it no questions asked so the deal was still on this morning. Not sure if it is definitely expired.

They didn't even check anything to see if it's dead or not. Mine was working fine though. I included the HDMI cable, USB charging cable, power cable and controller.

We tried to remove the Anthem game but the guy said only will reduce the price by $5. Another ozbargainer managed to reduce the price by $12 by removing the game from the deal. We just decided to keep it instead.

Thanks OP for posting this. I saw this deal a few days but finally decided to take the plunge. If it is expired then very glad i did :)

Edit: Now when i click the link in the OP it doesn't show the trade in deal. It mentioned it when you scrolled down a bit. Also on the homepage i can't see the $199 deal. So maybe it has been replaced by the slim deal. However best to phone in to your local store and see if they still offer it but not advertised.

  • Yeah, the deal is not on their front page banner anymore it seems.
I traded in my OG PS4 and 2 games (I bought 2 PS4 games from EB for $6 total, then drove 10 minutes to another EB to do the trade-in), to get the new PS4 Pro for $229 (or $235 essentially).
Thanks OP and other helpful comments that stated ANY two games were applicable! Saved me some bucks!

Unfortunately, I did it all so quick the other day so not to miss out on the deal, that I forgot about all my saved games progress, did the 'deactivate account thing' through the web browser because I didn't want anyone logging in, and now I have to start afresh with my progress again in everything =[
