Panasonic CU-Z25TKR 2.5kw Reverse Cycle Air Conditioner (Bonus $100 Cashback) $759.20 + Delivery (Free C&C) @ The Good Guys eBay

PGUY20

Good guys is having a 20% off promotion, and panasonic is having a cashback promotion. Combine the two, and you can get a highly efficient air conditioning system for cheap cheap cheap. Regular listed price is $949

The panasonic promotion was set to expire on the 30/6, but its been extended for another month. Truly savy ozbargainers will snap up some cheap ebay gift cards to buy it with, bringing the price even lower.

They also have the following systems listed:

Panasonic CS/CU-Z35TKR3.5kw system for $1149($820 after discount)
Panasonic CU-Z71TKR 7.1kw for $1699($1159 after discount)

Once you have the unit, installation should be as easy as calling up a reputable air conditioner installer, and telling them you already have the unit and just need installation. It generally costs about $500 per unit for an average dwelling to get them installed, which makes it tempting to get a larger single unit, BUT the smaller units are often significantly more efficient. Its up to you to weigh the lower runnings costs VS the higher initial install costs, and see if it works for you.

Note, these have been pulled before, so it might be wise to act sooner rather than later if you want one. Also note there is a max of 4 claims per household. Full t&c here

Another thing to note is, that to claim you need a copy of the invoice. This is generated by The Good Guys from information on the ebay purchasers account, and cannot be changed. It needs to match the claimants details, or you may run into trouble. I got into an argument about it last time, the gist of it being that online orders have to be cancelled and redone, forfeiting the 20% discount.

MAIN DEAL FOR THE 2.5KW UNIT HAS EXPIRED, BUT THE OTHER LISTINGS ARE STILL ACTIVE

Data point for those looking at these puppies … We have the 2.5 & 7.1 kw models listed. Both are fantastic units and very, very quite inside and out. Both use same remote. We can't fault them. We selected two different sizes for energy costs. The installer (swapping them out for existing old units) had no issues. I would happily buy again. YMMV

    $1159 for a 7.1kw system? What am I missing here, that's a great price.

That system has a COP of ~3.6 vs a COP of ~5 for the smaller units. You get 3 times the capacity in the same space, but it runs at 72% of the efficiency of the smaller units.

      • Really this is mainly due to the size of indoor and outdoor components. Usually the larger units are barely bigger footprint than the smaller ones, so have to shed the heat in the same size fins, etc.

In saying that, if you have a large room, you need 7.1, unless you want the ugliness/expense of putting in several smaller ones, which also might look odd in a house.

        • Yeah. Its too bad you can't get some sort of 'pre-cooler' type heat exchange to go inline with the first heat exchanger, so you could have the single unit inside but get the efficiency.

      • +1

COP mean nothing when your system is undersized, in fact no one will look at COP first but should consider room size first. Running 2.5kw system with COP5 in an open living area will end up costing more in terms of energy and comfort whilst shortening lifetime of the system

        • When I said that, I was thinking in my head multiple units. So 3x 2.5kw units VS a single 7.1kw unit

          • @outlander: What sort of room size for 7kW?

            • @brettd: Big one. Like a large lounge. Really though it depends on many factors. You want to have more cooling, than there is heat coming in. Big, north facing windows? Need a bigger unit.
Heavily insulated place surrounded by shady trees? Can probably get away with a smaller unit.

Its all very dependant on personal circumstances. Generally though as a guide, the 2.5kw=bedrooms, the 5kw= closed lounge, and the 7kw= open lounge with adjoining rooms.

      • I meant, compared to other branded 7.1kw systems, this is very well priced.

  • We need a multi head system for 2 rooms
Can anyone recommend a unit ?

  • Would this be better than the 2.5kw Fujitsu on sale recently, which was quite a few hundred cheaper?

    • would like to know this too…

  • would you be able to click and collect with a small hatchback?
dimensions are given but not sure how much to add for the cardbox
    Outdoor Unit Height (mm): 542
    Outdoor Unit Depth (mm): 289
    Outdoor Unit Width (mm): 780

    Indoor Unit Depth (mm): 194
    Indoor Unit Height (mm): 295
    Indoor Unit Width (mm): 919

    • I was able to pickup two units in a 1988 Corolla with the seats down. It was a bit of a squeeze but it got in there.

    • Managed to find the details for the boxes I got a few years back. Its an older model, but the same family so the specs should be very similar.

Compressor box was 95cm by 65cm by 42cm, and the head unit was 38cm by 25cm by 96cm

  • Great price for the 7.1kw.

Ive got 2 X 7.1kw Pana that are a few years old each and can't fault em so would definitely recommend.

Had a minor issue with one of them that Panasonic quickly rectified so warranty is top notch

    • Thanks for this. Found out there's a store just 10 mins away

  • On a tangent, I noticed that these aircons have plug in Wifi modules
    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/panasonic-rac-wi-fi-adaptor-c…

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with these modules? and any idea wether purchasing one from say Hong Kong would be the same?
    http://www.panasonic.hk/english/products/living/ventilation-…
    or https://www.fortress.com.hk/en/product/cztacg1-air-con-acces…

As $HK480 is a lot less than $AUD179
