  • Any stand out oil ones?

    • Literally any oil heater, the cheapest one from Kmart, is no different from the most expensive. As all electric heaters are 100% effecient (basically) just buy the cheapest of whichever style you prefer.

      • Not quite.
The less metal there (thermal mass) the more it cycles on and off. The constant clicking can get annoying.

Best to buy an older, second hand model off ebay.

        • Second hand ones?
They don’t die over time? And start leaking/exploding?

  • Can anyone recommend a small, cheap-to-run heater to use under a desk to keep my feet warm?

    • small, cheap-to-run heater

These don't exist - any plug-in heater converts power to heat at near 100% efficiency, and still use a huge amount of power. Cheap-to-run just means not very warm, so just choose one with low power consumption - or buy some nice thick wool socks.

Heated blanket. Cheapest way to electrically warm, period.

      • Also wear a merino undergarment.

      • Spot on..

Stay clear of euromatic. Had 4 die one after another within days of buying them. Got a refund, but no one needs to do that many trips to bunnings.

  • What’s others opinions of cheap to run reasonably priced to buy heater?
Currently using a bar heater but don’t find it very effective unless constantly on and sitting on it! Lol

The more watts the more expensive to run. If you are heating a single room go for less 1000-1500 watts. If you want instant direct heat go for fan heater (if you can stand the noise) or a radiant heater. If you want to heat the whole room go for an oil heater or convection or panel model. Though these require more planning and are best used with a timer since they take longer to heat the space. They can also be made more effective using a ceiling fan on winter mode (running backwards) to circulate the heat. Bigger spaces will require more watts and will therefore be more expensive to run.

Heatstrip 3200W Classic Radiant Outdoor Heater - Jeezus this uses almost as much power a our massive reverse cycle ducted unit that heats the whole house!

And almost as much as my older AMD graphics card. Bet it doesn't produce as much heat as my GPU though.
