      wii u
since it can play wii games as well, including wii fit
      or the wii fit u

      •

        Thanks I didn't know that :)

    • +1 vote

The wii fit works on both. I'd personally rather a Wii U.

    •

      Thank you @pinkybrain @Munki

      •

I just got a Wii U the other week to upgrade from Wii Fit to Wii Fit U version. Same exact game honestly but Wii U has HDMI out so it'll look a bit cleaner. Also little faster to load the game. If you only going to use Wii Fit, I don't think is it worth paying extra for the Wii U.

        •

But in the long run, it is still better to get the Wii U,
since it has like you said HDMI which would give a HD graphics (clearer and sharper images), more powerful specs
and supports both Wii and Wii U games.
You also get the Wii U gamepad that lets you play other games on the smaller screen etc..

So you get two consoles in one
          ie wii U, wii
and you also get a portable handheld gaming console via the wii u gamepad (of course only playable in the same location as the wii u due to it being streamed)
but it is still cool to have it.

And the cost to get Wii U is not that much more than the Wii selling here (using the same ebay discount code)
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/467531

That is a pretty good deal for not much more money.

          •

@pinkybrain: Yeah I don't disagree with most of what you said, Wii U definitely makes more sense if op wants to use it for more than Wii Fit. Though if is only just going to be used for Wii Fit the $70 difference doesn't make sense to me.

  •

Was thinking about grabbing one so I can battle my 4yr old in Wii bowling and the like.
Any other recommendations on games that are child friendly?
    Cheers

Exact same reason I bought one too :)

We brought a ‘kids dance’ game which is used along with wi sports. It’s good for an hour on a rainy day.

    •

Get them started on Mario Kart. I found the Wii U version to be more kid friendly though.

    •

When my kids were toddlers, they loved Wii Sports Resort (fencing) and Wii Sports (boxing).

Wears them out. Make sure they have the wrist strap on otherwise there's carnage when the wiimote goes flying.

    •

Mario Power Tennis can be found cheap enough and is great fun for the whole family. Other multi player classics imho are Donkey Kong Country Returns & Sonic All Stars Racing.

  •

Super deal!! ordered one, thank you :)

  •

    Got one myself, cheers OP!

  •

Thanks OP! Got one and already ready for pick up :)

  •

Keep in mind this has no HDMI port and no component cables. It’ll look pretty blurry without the official component cable.

Smart money is on a WiiU, which has hdmi and a Wii built in.

    • -1 vote

How would one plug it in then? I think I jumped the gun too early

      •

Yep need to know this too

      • +2 votes

The little yellow composite cable it comes with.

      •

It'll come with old style RCA jacks. Red/white for audio and yellow for video. Maybe 480p? Can't remember exactly.

        • +1 vote

          More like 480i.

        • +1 vote

You can get component cables for them too.

      •

It will come with composite AV cables, although a set of component cables are really cheap. You can also get a Wii2HDMI adapter if HDMI is more convenient, although I don't think there's any actual up-scaling through it so the image will not be any better.

    • +7 votes
      •

If using HDMI and this adaptor will a 3mm cable be required for audio?

    •

Third-party component cables work fine BTW. Example for $7: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Component-HD-TV-Video-Cable-AV-4...

    •

You can buy a component cable for under $10

  •

Thanks Op. Needed another remote. Cheaper to buy the whole console.

  • -1 vote

Should I buy two of this (so I will have 2 controllers) or the PS classic?

    •

      Yeah I just bought two

  •

Cheers OP. Just waiting for an email for click and collect.

  • +3 votes

I bought on earlier this year for my 5YO, easy soft mod and download games. He's loving Mario Kart and boxing.
I owned one back in the day, brings back a lot of memories. lol

  •

    Excellent. Bought one!

  • +4 votes

Make sure you get one with GameCube controllers slots if you plan on modding. Then play all GameCube games with official GameCube controllers. Its fantastic.

    •

      Do we get a choice?

      • +1 vote

If it’s delivered, no. If you’re picking up, maybe.

  • +4 votes

Can anyone please direct me to a good YouTube video so that I can mod my Wii. thanks

    • +1 vote

Just use ModMii its the easiest method to use when modding an original Wii.
More information on Official ModMii gbatemp forum.

      I'd recommend this guide: https://wii.guide

It has a couple of different entry points you can choose from depending on if you have an SD card and if your Wii has the Internet Channel installed.

  •

Anyone here able to recommend where you can get inexpensive Wii remotes

    • +5 votes

      Buy another console

    •

It took me a while of collecting, but I ended up with a few with motion plus built in (also there was a super target clearance for $20 brand new)

Best way I found was when EB has the 50% off I went in store and asked to look at all of them to find the motion plus. Seeing as they sell all the generic, normal and motion plus ones for the same price.

  •

    What price are these usually?

    •

      Usually $48 @ EB Games.

  • +2 votes

    There's 10 of these for every 1 Wii U.

If you're into retro gaming the Wii is absolutely the best console you can get.

It has a complete range of emulators:

    • NES, SNES, Gensis/MG, MS, GB, GBC, GBA, NEO-GEO, Turbo-grafixCD, Gamegear, N64, Gamecube, Wii.

And it can most importantly do 240p output.

It is the last console to do 240p output. Nothing else modern does.

It also uses the snes/nes classic mini controllers so you can have real controllers when playing NES and SNES games.

Put a Wii with a CRT and you have the SUPREME retro experience.

    • -2 votes

The WiiU can do exactly the same if you use a composite cable instead of HDMI.

      • +2 votes

No it can't. WiiU cannot do 240p. I have a WiiU too. The min they can do is 480

        • -2 votes

Games won't use 240p if the component cable is detected. Using HDMI output also makes the game think component is being used. But using the composite cable works.

          • +2 votes

@ssquid: Wii virtual console and emulated games use 240p with component, composite, or s-video. The Wii outputs an SD analogue signal and outputs 240p natively.

Wii-U games NEVER use 240p. Doesn't matter if they are emulated games through hacking, virtual console games, or whatever. Wii-U is not capable of outputting 240p.

This is just a fact of the console hardware.

            • -2 votes

@thord: Firstly: s-video was only meant for NTSC regions/software. If you try and use it on a regular PAL system you get no image as the software defaults to thinking it's an RGB (SCART) cable, as that's what PAL regions had instead.

Secondly: if a system had a component cable connected and was configured for progressive output, the SDK disabled the use of 240p. This was a restriction inherited from the GameCube days, due to many TVs not supporting 240p on their component inputs.

Thirdly: your "facts" are incorrect. A WiiU with a composite cable, set for 480i output, can do exactly the same video modes as a regular wii when in vwii mode.

              • +1 vote

@ssquid: You can region change your wii using anyregionchanger.

                PAL - Composite, Component, RGB
                NTSC - Composite, Compoennt, S-video

Wii uses the same pins for RGB and s-video, if you switch regions your wii will switch output modes.

Your PAL wii can be region changed to USA and output NTSC 240p content.

"if a system had a component cable connected and was configured for progressive output, the SDK disabled the use of 240p. This was a restriction inherited from the GameCube days, due to many TVs not supporting 240p on their component inputs."

If you're running a pal system, or if you're running a ED TV or the system in ED mode (i.e. 480p mode). Yes, 240p is disabled. But if you run it in 480i mode 240p works perfectly.

WiiU categorically CANNOT do 240p. It is impossible. Stop downvoting me when you are the one that is wrong>

                https://www.neogaf.com/threads/does-the-wii-u-output-240p.50...

WiiU with any cable, in VirtualWii mode or not, it CANNOT output 240p.

Even WiiU hacked in Vwii with 240p suite in NTSC mode, it CANNOT output 240p mode. It always upscales. It's a limitation of the WiiU.

The Wii doesn't have this problem - making it superior for retro gaming.

I have 2 WiiUs and 3 Wiis, I use a region modded wii just about every day for retro gaming on a CRT. I know what outputs a 240p signal and what doesn't.

Supreme retro is a c64 with a 1541 and a cassette on a Sony trinitron.

  •

Are they no longer available for Click and Collect through eBay? The option is not coming up for me

    •

Ahh yeah, C&C has been removed atm, will update.

    •

I guess they got sick of people doing C&C for 10 of them (which weren't in stock at the store), and getting free shipping :)

A friend told me that's what happens.

  •

Good Deal. I've had my Wii, with 500mg hardrive and 30 games on Gumtree for $20 and not had 1 response in 6 months.

    • +3 votes

maybe cos you listed it as 500mg..

that is as small as a panadol tablet.

      •

My first hard drive was 10mb.

  •

I picked up two at different locations. Both were not cleaned, covered in food stains. They came with the standard RCA cables and basic remotes.

    •

      2 remotes?

      • +2 votes

you only get 1 remote, but he bought 2, so yes, he would get 2 remote

  •

Picked up mine x2 just now .. mint condition- 1 black and 1 white … must have been lucky .

  • -1 vote

Mind you this comes without batteries and charging station which are ridiculously priced well over the console price. I too purchased one from the last deal and it is sitting there somewhere like junk in my house.

    • -1 vote

Shell out for the charging dock and rechargeable batteries from ebay for $10 dude, I know, it's a lot.

    •

IKEA LADDA rechargables are the go. According to the Internet they're identical to the Eneloop Pro, and so far I'm very happy with them.

    • +1 vote

They didn't come with a "charging station" when new, what made you think they would come with one now?

  • +3 votes

just picked up my wii from local EB shop! Does not come with AV cable!! Please check the components before you leave the store!

    •

      Nice tip!

  •

Man great deal. But that Ebay+Plus is bullshit. who actually is a part of the ebayplus program? Everytime i buy something,I still have to pay for domestic shipping.I thought EBGames would be apart of it.

Lucky im just on the 1 month free trail version

  • +3 votes
  •

Wii motion plus controls will cost far more than the console. But for a 1 in 4 dice roll plus the console this price isn't bad. You might be better off buying a second hand one somewhere that comes with enough wii motion plus controllers though, for say… $100.

    •

I am still on the fence on purchasing, I hesitated and lost the ability to Click And Collect which would of meant I could ask the guy to check all the controllers in the boxes (he is a top bloke and did the same for me when I grabbed the Wii U Premium console in the other post).

Now it really is a gamble.

  •

    Back in stock!

  •

Collect mine on the weekend at local shop.
    Tested briefly and it's working.

  •

Going to have to neg this, I ordered and got one that looked trashed, asked for a different one, which they didn't seem to like doing and that one also looked like it had been used since release

Quality varies wildly and it might not be worth a lot of people's time the hassle

    •

I grabbed the Wii U Premium from EB Games from a previous post and was able to Click And Collect.

Really handy to be able to ask the staff member if they can check all the Pre-Owned Consoles and give me what he thought was the best one. When I took it home I used Isopropyl Alcohol to clean it all down (it was not dirty but I wanted to give it a once over) and was pretty happy with the condition of the console for a second hand unit.

TLDR: If you miss out on Click and Collect your really gambling on what you get.

    •

      Thanks UC :)

  •

Also, I might be a bit of an eBay newb but the delivery cost listed is $6.95 and $2 for each additional item. I bought more than one and the postage and handling was only $6.95 in total which was less than I was expecting.

  •

I bought two but ended up returning them due to the condition that they were in. If C&C was still available, I would recommend inspecting the units first.

But For anyone interested, the returns process was a breeze and they organize a new postal label for you to send it back to the warehouse for free.

    •

I got mine today and it was fiiiiiilthy. I guess these are so cheap as they're the bottom of the barrel last ones they had in stock
