Do you ask her to accommodate ridiculous requests from you? (ie a reduction in shoes, make up, clothes, other hobbies that are of no interest to you?)
If your shed is anything like my shed, it's pretty much the only area of your house that's "yours". She has overarching authority over most other areas of the home. So her insisting on imposing her will on your hobby is the same as you imposing your will on hers.
Informing your loved one that a suggestion by you to increase your shed space to her wasn't a request for approval, but as a courtesy to something you intend to do… as it doesn't affect her life in the slightest, is perfectly fine.
Unless she would also like to commandeer said shed area and belongings (and associated responsibilities within it such as mowing grass and repairing things etc!)?

I need another shed to lean against my existing shed but my wife insists I clean-up my existing shed before I purchase more shed space.
