Just going through stuff on the Amazon US site and noticed this one. Appears cheapest price has been. Great if needing some controls on your wifi for kids.

Far as I can tell this should work fine whether bought from the US or from store locally. Just powered by Micro USB so simple to power locally.

  • MANAGE WI-FI CONNECTED DEVICES: Circle recognizes and manages wired and wireless devices on your home network.
  • Software requirements: iOS and Android
  • Set time limits: create daily time limits on apps and popular sites like Facebook, Instagram, snapchat, and YouTube.
  • Filter content: set individual filter levels by made (pre-k, kid, teen, and adult) for each member of your Family.
  • Pause the internet: pause the internet for a single Family member or the whole Family with a single tap.
  • ONLINE USAGE AT A GLANCE: See where your kids spend time online by app and category.

RE Is there a subscription? As per the customer questions and answers:

Question: Is there a monthly fee?

Answer: As of March 2018, the cost for Circle Go is now $4.99 a month. The premium features for home network use only are now included for free.

So the only susbcription is their mobile parental controls like for when they have the device outside the home network.

Great if needing some controls on your wifi for kids.

My 8yo has already worked out how to get around this by hot-spotting to Mum's phone….

      You're doomed

I suggest you instruct your wife to stop exposing her hotspot so readily.

Lol… This has to be the quote of the month. :)

    • Turn your hot spotting off. Problem solved

        It’s not mine

  • I have this. It's fairly buggy. Destroys network performance over time with a tendency to disconnect other devices. It's also not compatible with some routers. A new circle home plus device has been released - it's apparently much better and doesn't affect other network users in the same buggy way.

    • I've got one too, and kinda agree. Needs a reboot every few weeks, but does exactly what it says on the box.

Don't really agree about killing network performance. I'm sure that it does, but with the speed of the NBN you can't really tell.

I think it depends on the size of your network. As it spoofs the gateway, forcing all traffic to go through it (whether managed or not) it just doesn't have the capacity to handle largish networks - that's my experience anyway.

      • Stick a lamp timer on it to reboot every couple of days :)

        • Yeah i already stick my router and nbn hfc modem on the timer, so will do the same with this.

I was toying with the idea og a pfsense box to do this for the kifs internet. But the thought of the setup nightmare has kept that on hold. But i really need something now so will give this thing a go.

Have been running this for about 2 years now, best to have it hardwired via ethernet, only manage the kids everything else put in unmanaged and it won't slow down. The new model, the circle plus has a gigabit ethernet and 40% faster CPU, but nearly all the features you have for control with the Disney circle will move to a $10/MTH subscription service on the new one after the first 12 months…..

  • In-Home Parental Controls

SO kids can control their parents to buy more Disney crap?

  • +1

    Isn’t there a monthly subscription?

    • +1

Only for Circle Go which covers devices when not connected to the home network.

  • This will be perfect to stop my parents browsing pr0n and reddit

  • +1

if it goes subscription, consider a new router …… my tplink comes with parental controls alteady for url filtering and timing and volume based accounting.

    • I was gonna say…the crappy Huawaei router that came with my NBN plan does some of this stuff out of the box (schedules on specified MAC addresses), and the rest I do with OpenDNS. A bit clunky, but so far my 11yo seems to be under control.

This sounds a tad more comprehensive, but when you mentions subscription service…blegh!!

  • Circle go discontinued for new users.
The device will still work fine for home network but you can no longer purchase the subscription for mobile devices.
If using for kids mobile devices they can easily switch to mobile data and avoid all blocks.

Couldn't you just get your kids a sim with no data on it?

  • My 14 year old managed to bypass/hack the Circle within hours of me setting it up, just by following instructions on Google

    • +1

      So it's an educational device : ).

I've been reading up posts from kids trying to bypass them, yeah looks like VPN might do it or other ways to bypass. But all the posts the kids calling these "the box from hell" "demon box" hahaha thats great that should be on their advertisements.
