  • nice…i was waiting for this aft I heard they wer shutting down stores due to 400mill debt…thanks

  • Woah.. off clearance stuff/stores as well…

    • do you know the store location in Melbourne

      • almost at large shopping center eg Chadstone, Southland, DFO Moorabin…

  • +2

Great for shoppers, real unfortunately for the 1000+ staff getting sacked.

Anyway, there'll probably be even higher discounts on the way before they close for good next month…

If only there clothes were better

    • +8

There shoes are good though. I normally destroy shoes after I've worn them for a few months but Colorado shoes normally last a year.

      Thanks OP.

I haven't bought a lot of their stuff, as I find their clothing sizes are for "American sized folk", but will check the sale if I can.

      • Last time I checked Australian sized folk aren't that far behind on the obesity scale!!

        • You need a trip to the states for research purposes then, maybe even just Hawaii…there's some big folks there, I've not seen bigger in Oz! :o

    • negged for spelling

jking. Their clothes aren't that bad, from memory… Some nice belts.

Their clothes were AWESOME in the old days; but quite a few years back they started to drop their quality to Rivers level! Better off shopping at Target IMHO! ;)

        • +1

          lol, 'to Rivers level'.

Rivers really are garbage and a waste of the consumers time/money. Hopefully they will be next to go down down down to Devilgate drive.

        • rivers clothes are horrible, a small selection of their shoes are decent..

If you do not wear popular size clothings, wait for the next phase of discounting - 70%.

  • Its a sad day for quality Australian mens work/dress boots. Might have to buy an extra pair now seeing i've not found any other brand as good.

I read yeaterday that their shoe division will continue with sales made online and via mathers/williams.

      http://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/industry-sectors/co…

"Colorado-branded footwear will still be sold online and through 200 Mathers and Williams outlets."

      • Thats awesome, thanks for the update. Its good that they recognised that their shoe department was a well respected brand.

  • Ouch another retailer going down. Who's next?

    • Pretty much all of them - unless they can get price competitive.

      • +4

Nah, they already made everything in China.

Retail sales are down because everyone is maxed out on mortgages or rent. Its house prices they're competing against.

Actually it's just poor management decisions - plain and simple (eg. product selection, pricing, marketing, store numbers, etc). They are run by investors looking to make quick money not retailers in for the long haul who understand evolving customer desires. Blaming the internet and overseas manufacturers is spin for the media to regurgitate (which they do well without due analysis).

Books and clothes have plenty of successfully run competitors/chains locally. The biggest joke is Borders and Colorado both have online stores (eg. http://www.colorado.com.au/Womens-Clothing/) and source stock from overseas. So who are they blaming again… Hmmm.

There's plenty of customers who can't manage their spending (look at personal debt) and if they are "buying online" the money is still is there to be spent (even if it's credit) and gained by retailers.

Poorly run businesses don't succeed and go under or get bought out. Nothing new in that.

Feel sorry for staff affected by (and not aware of) bad management decisions though.

  • Their clothes were never much good - very boring and ugly fit.

But the shoes! They were fantastic, always looked great and were so comfortable. I suggest if anyone spots the Bailout boat shoe, grab em! They look hot and for 50% off would be a bargain.

    • What shoes will the private school girls wear to school now? butt ugly ascents maybe? Haha but seriously colarado seemed to do well with their shoes. When was in high school all the girls had that colarado shoe. They all dragged their feet across the ground and they had terrible posture coz their shoe was grinder down but on a 45 degree angle

bailout is a guys boat shoe dude

lol, maybe s_agno went to high school in the late 80s

  • The one at Liverpool in Westfields had a long queue out the door. Much like Zara.

  • Went to DFO in sydney. There was heaps of stock left but clearing quickly. I usually like and buy often Colorado but couldn't find anything to my taste today.. (Tshirt $10, JAckets $70, Most shoes $35-$40)

Went to Macqaurie and it was chaos!! Even with 50% off I dont think anything is that cheap..

    • +1

Went to Macquarie as well - good mens stuff like casual pants , half shirts, jackets - less selections for women. Shoes were good, all brand new . Nothing I bought will go wasted. Pity about the shut down - they were always reliable with moderate prices and very friendly staff.

  • I was considering getting a pair of the mens boots but wasn't really that keen on the style/quality for the price.

The clothes I have never really liked but they had a few nice jackets I must say. Didn't get anything though as all I really buy from Colorado is shoes but I have enough for now.

  • yeah i agree.. their clothes are very meh (and usually expensive) but the shoes are good

  • Went to the Burwood store and its was chaos.. most of the decent stuff was gone other than jackets.. I did pick up a sleeve from my transformer though for 5$.. they had different sizes and pretty good quality.. fits the TF w/ dock perfectly..

  • I went to Hurstville, it was a joke. They had a queue outside but there was only 10 people in the shop. They could have let everyone in and it still wouldn't have been as crowded as most the other shops in the complex.

No wonder they're going bust, can't even get a liquidation sale right.

  • Went to DFO South Wharf outlet on Friday. Hardly anyone in there. Plenty of stock but didn't see anything I liked at the reduced price.
