PILOT

Pre-order available at a good price for the newly released Hisense 65R8 (2019 model).

This is the successor of the 65" P8 from Hisense that was listed for $1,288 on Ozbargain. Effectively ~$500 difference between 2018/2019 model, but 2019 version has newer OS and Bluetooth included. Maybe useful for anyone who missed out on the P8 or cannot wait for prices to drop further.

Was just in the process of posting this one.

The gadgetguy mini review seems pretty high on it https://www.gadgetguy.com.au/product/hisense-2019-series-8-r… and it seems to be a decent improvement on the popular P8. Would be interested in knowing how much of an improvement as I'm still in an area that has the $1288 P8 one available.

Hoping some more reviews pop up, but I guess we aren't going to get impressions from the public with it not being released.

Side note. I just saw an ad during the footy with Harvey Norman giving pracitcally free upgrades in size on select Hisense TVs but I can't find any info online detailing it.

    • Lucky bastard! I saw the $1,288 P8 deal an hour after it was posted and they still had stock in my area then. But by the time I’d made the decision to buy, stock had already run out. Massive regrets now lol

  • I don't think it is pre-order, I already received my R8 this Wednesday.

    • I think appliance central has not received stock yet which is why they listed it as a preorder on eBay. The other big retail stores may have received preferential treatment and thus are already able to deliver.

I added preorder to this OP so there is no misunderstanding that there is a bit of delay and won’t be delivered/shipped in 1 day. Listing says stock expected by end of July.

      • I didn't notice they update the title with "new orders dispatch late JULY".
When I placed my order on 16/07/2019, there were no such terms; and I received the TV on 17/07/2019.
From one label on the box I can see two R8 in the batch arrived BETTA WILLAWOOD (retail department of ApplianceCentral) on 17/07/2019.

        • So how is it?

          • @Buzzkill: Very impressed with its graphic and colour (upgraded from my old Panasonic Plasma); Dolby Vision is amazing with Netflix Our Planet; Sound didn't feel special because I didn't connect it to sound bar.

            • @jl434: Good to hear. Not bothered with sound, I have AV/Speakers.

Not everything is 1080 or 4k. So I was wondering, How do theses TVs handle SD content?

I recently upgraded from a 5 year old Sony 50" LED to the 65P7, and obviously the HD is better and 4K is great, but wow SD content is absolutely terrible on a bigger TV. Trying to watch some older shows on foxtel like Seinfeld for example, or the Non-HD free to air channels. I'd rather just switch it off.

      • I suspected as much.

  • This or the Samsung RU7100?

  • How do Warranty claims work with places like this? Do I have to deal with Appliance Central or Hisense?

    • From their site: https://www.appliancecentral.com.au/warranty-and-returns

      "Making a claim under warranty

All Air Conditioners, Fridges, Washing machines, Dishwashers, Ovens and Large screen TVs come with an in-home service warranty.
You can book a service call by contacting the manufacturer directly.

Warranty contact details are packaged with the product.
Warranty is valid within Australia only.

You will need your invoice when making a claim under warranty.
Your tax invoice will be emailed to you when your order is dispatched."

      So deal with Hisense

  • Hmm… this TV or Samsung Series 6 65" QLED for a few dollars more.. Any idea?
