  • Cheers OP. Good price. Grabbed a few

  • Thanks for this, was waiting for a while on a deal on a lock for my scooter.

Just so you know it takes about 3 seconds to cut through these, the false sense of security is real with cable locks. Get a D lock if you want to still own your scooter, I suggest a Giant LS D lock which are around $55 and need about 2 mins with an angle grinder to get through them and will not be compromised by bolt or side cutters.

      • +1

Yeah I agree they don't have particularly good security, I just need one for when I run into the supermarket or stores for a short period of time and don't want to carry it around :) Might cancel my order and have another look around though.

      • +1

        Agreed.
Bored & looking for a new puzzle, I learnt how to 'crack' these 30 years ago.
Granted, its a decent brand & great deal.
But as stated above, it'll only slow someone down.

        • 45 years ago I had my first combination bicycle lock. Never memorized the code, always picked it blindfold for the fun of it…

        • +2

master lock isn't a decent brand, their consumer accessible locks are the most easily cracked and shimmed locks on the market

          • +2

@Dubsys: I feel some lockpickinglawyer here. Shame the ones he recommends start at 0.5kg+, and are around $100, if not more.

      • -2

I takes few more seconds to break D Lock with Car Jack.
The best solution is to mature the Community from selfish Capitalist to caring Social system.

        • +3

It takes even less time to break a D Lock with a grenade launcher.

        • +1

Shall we all aim to care as much as Stalin did?

      • What is the best deal for a Giant LS D lock?

      • -2

Just so you know it takes about 3 seconds to cut through these,

The problem around here is junkies and indigenous youth, who just steal unlocked bikes and dump them.
This is good enough for the kids bike, or beater ridden to the shops.
Professional thieves don't take K-mart bikes.

Thanks op also at super cheap for $8 for this who prefer bricks and mortar.

Regular price $10 so Bunnings seems inflated. Could price beat if identical.

Today's 20% off deal at SuperCheap.
Pay with up to 10% discounted SuperCheap eGift cards & 10% Cashback with ShopBack… & get it now!
      A much cheaper deal👍

      • Better to use the gift card if you have it as using it avoids cashback. Also the cashback is really 9.09% as gst isn't counted for cashback so use a giftcard if you have one.

        • The ShopBack conditions are frequently vague…
No cashback: Gift card purchases unless otherwise stated

Is that purchases of gift cards, rather than purchases made by gift card??

I only have 8% discount eGift Cards with Suncorp Rewards.

Are you sure - Cashback is only on price before GST. Hasn't been my experience with SuperCheap / BCF in the past.

Tracking will show expected Cashback, but may not be granted by SuperCheap.
No harm buying via Cashback - we may be rewarded much later! Or not.

  • Where will you secure/hook this through the Xiaomi?

    • +1

I put mine through the rear wheel.

kiss whatever you want to lock up goodbye

    • That's my rule for my dungeon😱

      • let the children go please.

        • I have one of those you must be this high to ride signs😀

    • +3

Better than having nothing, would stop most would-be opportunist thieves.

      • +2

fine for cafe stop. nothing more.

      • +4

        Your 2nd point: Not really.
        It's 2019, and idiots/scumbags are getting smarter.

        • to clarify, only if you're within a few metres and line of sight of your bike. that 30 second delay might be enough time get up and stop them.

but if it's around the corner out of sight, or you pop into the cafe to order, or take a whizz then absolutely not.

LPL has taught me that, if it's worth locking up, it's worth more than a cable lock.

    yep, stay away from masterlock.
if you really need to lock something, buy a chain and a decent pad lock.

  • +4

Yes the wires can be cut, I'd recommend something thicker to make it a bit harder for any thieves. But there is actually a much easier way to get through these combination locks, it takes like 30 seconds to a minute and it's very easy (no tools required).

    This guy demonstrates

How do you use this to lock a scooter? Thread it through the wheel?

    • Yes through the rear wheel.

  • +2

I'd avoid these type of locks for anything you leave outside. I've seen a person using a wood saw in broad daylight cut through these and take the bike it was attached too (even told the cops who were just up the street, they didn't do anything). If you want to secure, use a hard metal U bold type or a thick chain.

    • Who carries a wood saw around? Cops around here would be right onto you, can't even go for a walk at 5am in the morning without getting questioned.

    Master Lock:

    The world's #1 self-opening lock brand.

  • Bad reviews

  • bargain for a backup.

Another vote for 'buy a good lock' to buy anything that costs more than a couple hundred bucks. Cable locks and combination stuff like this is barely a deterrent

    • Seriously? It's not even the same product.

      • +2

To be fair, it'd probably provide just as much protection.

  • +6

As others have said, Master locks in general are about the worst name brand lock in existence. They really are god awful. I actually own this particular lock, and it's complete trash. Like many combination locks, you can get the code simply by applying pressure (pulling on the cable etc) and turning the dial.

  • +1

I just thought of an actual use for this lock. It might be good to lock your front wheel to your frame using this junker lock and then get a real one for your back wheel and frame.

  • +2

I got some of these for some cheap bikes, but no way I'd be using these on any sort of scooter like the OP is suggesting.

Maybe they went to the pub first, then decided to post this?

  • Gosh please dont ever get this to secure anything unless you're prepared to lose it.

    • I have seen a $2k TREK MTB locked up with a 2cm thick Kmart lock. Through ONLY the front tyre, no less (yes it had quick realse). At least it's better than that?

  • Uses this on my scooter leaving it outside the dairy.
    Nek minit gone.

  • Anyone have recommendations for ski locks?

    • You want to lock up a pair of skis?

    • Maybe get a metal box and padlock it.

  • Bought and cancelled.

  • Master Lock is the worst possible thing you could use to protect your bike. Not only are these locks very easy to cut, but because the combination can be changed, it very likely doesn't contain features which circumvent quick jiggle/tension attacks.

  • Don't buy a combination lock. They're very easy to defeat. Buy a sturdy lock that requires a key with a decent chain.

  • Or you can buy from Kmart for $5

    • Sorry, we found no results for "Master lock"

      They don't sell them
