  • what's the original price?

Just to let people know how small they are, here is a photo of the pan on a cooktop.

That's not a reason to Neg the deal!!!

    • +11

Wow the cook top is so big

    • +4

I don’t know why this is getting negged so much! It’s a legit mistake that people have made, I’m trying to warn and help people.

      • +4

Thanks for the warning about the size. Unfortunately you're probably getting negged because you didn't follow voting guidelines, specifically you negatively voted on a legitimate deal when you should have just commented without voting:

        No Vote
If the deal doesn't apply to you, you don't like the company or you want to leave a warning for people about the business or deal, you can leave a comment and then not vote.

      • +1

I think you was negged so much because of your original comment which seems to have been changed since :)

    • +2

Its basically to fry one egg.

    • "+" just to override the "-" :D

    • I have bought one previously and it is now in my daughter's toy kitchen. A bit heavy as a toy pan but she likes it. She got a red staub mini cocotte for her last birthday (wish they are this cheap too but that is the price you pay for looks). Even preschooler loves cast irons!

    • Frypan for ants???

  • is it like a hand size?

    • +1

Depends on how wide your palm is.

    • From the photo, looks smaller even. Haha haha.

    • ball size i'd like to say

  • What heat source is this designed for? Seems like it would be too small for most stove tops.

    • +1

Too small for my induction stove as it is less than the minimum size (12cm /4.7").

Watch the video - it looks a bit precarious! I've had problems heating a similar sized pot on my stove top - spilt many times. Was worse on a portable gas stove.

Something to consider - do you have a suitable cook top for this?

  • +1

it’s ideal for egg breakfast in a pan, like that middle easter shashooka or whatever they call it …..tomato onion and spice base in a pan, and an egg on top.

grabbed 4 as it is one pan person for breakfast.

    • Shakshuka. Although is the acidity of the tomatoes going to be a problem for amount of time it is cooking for? I never try on account of tales of it ruining my seasoning/affecting the taste.

      • thought the same thing but when i go to cafes, they serve it in cast iron pans ….. possibly for heat retention, presentation ….

Would be good for burger for ants

  • +1

Pretty sure all OzBargain regulars now all own a complete cast iron set due to recent Lodge deals and I’m also pretty sure we’ve only cooked eggs on them.

    • Agreed to the 1st part of the comment.

    • I’ve cooked eggs, bacon, sausages, chicken kebabs, burgers and pizza so far. But that’s the clobbering 12 incher, not this dollhouse pan.

  • +1

perfect for always round fried egg

  • Good if you want to cook half an egg?

  • I can highly recommend these guys https://www.murdockmetal.com.au/services/frying-pans-and-pae…

The small size paella pan works v well for shakshuka and their black steel is naturally non-stick. And it's made in Australia.

Fe fi fo fum, has anyone seen my tooth filling.

  • daiso sells them for $5

    • In Cast Iron - that's the Deal??

    • think the lodge and victoria deals have been popular as they are preseasoned pans, many others you need to boil or burn away protective covering.

  • +1

What damage does it do as a melee weapon?

    • +1

not much but shove one in ya pants and it would be perfect groin shield during melee combat

    • I've got an 6" cast iron skillet (like the one at start of video). Used almost every day for years.

If I want a higher egg (rarely) I use a simple 3" egg ring suggested in video (bought 2 for 10c @opshop, $3 @woolies) - cheaper than buying a new skillet for very occasional use. Easier to clean & store. And a larger pan is more stable on stove - looked precarious in video.

This size skillet won't work with my induction stove as it is smaller than the minimum size (12cm /4.7").

He finishes his egg in another pan. I have a glass lid which fits the skillet, keeping the heat in cooking the top of the egg. That way I get a soft yoke, as I like. Being glass, I can see when its ready.

doh mine have shipped and i have induction cooktop …. guess it will be bbq when i make burger with the lot.

      Great link - thanks!

But that is literally the saddest review I've ever watched. The intimate detail and tireless effort that the author has put in to reviewing a pan that is half the size of his palm - and the time and range of tools to cook one solitary egg - only for it to fail twice due to lack of heat and a heartbreaking broken yolk!

I really like the concept of this skillet, but will avoid just to ensure I don't end up like the reviewer…

  • I have the bigger one but food sticks to it when I try to fry something. What am I doing wrong?

    • Check out Youtube for some seasoning guides. If it’s sticking a lot, it might be worth doing a few rounds of seasoning in the oven over the top of the pre-seasoning.

You’ll also need to reseason after you use it, just a tiny bit of oil rubbed around the inside of a hot pan after you clean it (check Youtube for guides).

I’d also advise using a little bit of extra oil while cooking if the pan is still new.

And keep in mind that with things like meat, you don’t really want food slip-sliding around like teflon - it’s better if the pan ‘grabs’ the meat and sticks a little bit while it sears, then once it’s done it should release easier.

  • too small for me :(

  • +1

Guess it's available again. I just bought two for $7.90 each.
