    Different Market, XPS is high spec, bleeding edge Gaming Multimedia. Where Latitude is business grey, Metal Chassis, Docking ports for the business Market.
    The latitudes are definately build a lot better, but the XPS is a lot more sexy.

        That is the conventional wisdom
        Personally - I would buy Inspiron all day long at up to half the price for similar specs
        $100 odd extra for 3 yr NBD warranty and you are set
        If it lasts 3 years you are miles in front

  Concerns me that they have Vista Basic SP2 as the default OS on the E5420, would be better off shipping it with a crate of bricks.

    Most purchasers of these machines are big corporate
    They load their own OS licence (often Win XP) anyway so they include the cheapest OS licence they can to keep the price down - as it will just be replaced anyway
