                    • @FreoIsaac: yeah you are right, Telstra tech came in, disconnect my old line connection (to the room - he said the line is good and shouldn't cause major issue, but he disconnect it anyway, some dodgy tech do tee-line will make it worse). speed increase by 2-4mbps….

he said the main exchange is actually over the standard 1km, will be lucky to get 25mbps…. so i shouldn't upgrade to higher plan (no point)

i was in the impression that the exchange is the split point, which is 300 meters away.

                      • @edgar28: NBN for FTTN basically goes exchange > Node cabinet > your place . fibre to the node is likely to take the form of a street cabinet. Each street cabinet will allow the nbn™ access network signal to travel over a fibre optic line from the exchange, to the cabinet, and connect with the existing copper network to reach your premises

so the problem is with FTTN if the distance between the cabinet and your place is longer then 1km your basically screwed as the existing copper line speed and stability gets worse the longer it is and is affected by weather and other things like Corrosion.

so your options for faster speed would be fixed wireless if you can get decent signal at your location and its not as cheap as standard NBN or to apply to NBNco directly to upgrade you to FTTP which extends the fibre optic line from the exchange all the way to your premises but that is very costly and they charge an arm and leg to do it if its even possible. better off waiting a few years see whats available then maybe tesla/spaceX satellite broadband will save Australia from our mixed technology NBN,

remember when NBN was going to be FTTP for everyone until one side of the government thought they could save a few $ and time by using what was already in place. not only did it not save time as they had to install a bunch of node cabinets anyway, it hasn't saved them any $ either. and NBN became the shitshow it is now with majority on people stuck on FTTN.

least with Belong with what speeds you have now, your not going to find much cheaper then $55/mth for unlimited data on NBN25 and your not going to have to worry about congestion as even peak speeds would not effect you if your syncing higher then 30Mbps.

so what do you sync at now that tech disconnected the other line. any better then 23Mbps?

                        • @FreoIsaac: The tech said my line is in good condition with or without disconnection of the room line(previous telstra tech did not do a dodgy job by tee in, if using tee in, he said might reduce 30% speed)

but he disconnect it anyway and improve by 2mbps. 22mbps to 24mbps - telstra webpage speed test. (sync at 24 to 26mbps)

  • This is not expired and the $55 starter is still available.

  • I thought this was their normal price?
Keep in mind people shouldn't get this expecting to get the 50/20 type speeds (if you do treat it as a bonus rather than expectation). Belong only state 30Mbps down. If they have to change from speeds many are currently enjoying (due the the moving mess that is NBN wholesale pricing) don't expect to argue for more than 30Mbps.
