$69- FIVE YEAR UltraTune Car Care Package (NSW-Marrickville)

27

First time poster and never really thought about submitting deals (sorry I admit it!), but this looks well worth it.

Hopefully I’m not mistaken but looks like a real good deal especially with the yearly pink slip check and certification included. This normally costs over $30 each year for cars over a couple years old, so this alone is a massive saving.

Also includes is a full major logbook service, and 5 year road-side assistance (and a hand wash & dry chucked in for good measure). I normally get anxious about letting the common car servicing companies touch my car, but for this price I will grin and bear it.

Enjoy fellas!

The below is a cut and paste from the Scoopon website.

did you watch the current affair story on deals like this, call me skeptical, however, all of a sudden your car which hasn't had any faults will need a few costly replacements…
oddly enough these costs will be enough for ultra tune to make there money back on the "69" dollar servicing…
1 lot of decent synthetic oil costs the amount here… dont see how they could do it without finding a few "major issues" with each car they service…

either that or they will be charging you an arm and a leg for the items listed in major service that are not provided…

as they say if its seems too good to be true….

  • Looks too good to be true? Replacement parts may be costly but remember - YOU CAN SAY NO and just do the standard oil change!

  • yeah i saw this. Didnt make a deal about it but made a forum post because I too am skeptical. But it looks worth it for the pink slips and roadside.

"Okay, servicing a car with one of these deals can be hit and miss, but you get:

5 yrs roadside assistance (from experience, NRMA about $90pa
5 yrs pink slip (from experience - $32-$35pa)

(Yes, they might try and pull you up with unnecessary problems when going to pink slip)

Thats $625 over the lifetime of the deal. Sounds good right?

Anyone have experience with their roadside assistance?"

    • Keep in mind that when you need roadside assistance, you're probably already in great deal of frustration (ie. missing appointments, stuck out in the cold, etc.). The last thing that you need is to have to wait 2 hours for a mechanic to come. I have no experience with UT's roadside assistance so I can't comment. But when I last had a flat tyre, NRMA came in 10 minutes and I was driving again in another 5 minutes. When I last had a flat battery, NRMA came in 15 minutes with my new battery installed on the spot.

Yes i agree with all comments and skeptical also.

As delfredo suggests, you can always say no and thats what ill be planning to do. Get them to do the major service and say no to any of their recommendations to replace parts. I will express this to them before they look at the car.

Didnt really think about them making up unnecessary stuff to fail your pink slip, but if your car is stock and roadworthy (my car has a few mods) im sure worse case scenario you could ask for a second opinion from a friendly mechanic. If the other mechanic passes it after ultratune dont, Im sure you could complain to someone in management at ultratune to reimburse or atleast cause a bit of a scene in front of everyone there.

As I said before, the tempting part of the deal is less about the car service and more about the roadside assistance and pink slips for five years.

Whoops, and the "massive saving" is meant to be $980 not $98.

DO NOT buy this voucher! I made that mistake. This shop is dodge as.

I was ripped off by them a couple of thousand dollars, not too mention all the time wasted. They do not deliver what they promise and they have the worst service I ever experienced. All they do is lie lie and more lies. This shop is run by two brothers, and their father works there occasionally as well.

They lacked the experience to fix my car and towed it to a couple of different electricians and charged me for the tow truck. When I have time I will write the full story about this place.

A comment from someone at Ultratune would be good?
This offer would be impossible to maintain over the 5 years. This smells.. :-(

  • Removed. Ultratune can burn

damn…this bargain is looking less of a bargain and more of a headache. i have already purchased the scoopon so i guess i will try my luck. for $69 i feel its worth giving it a go, and i guess atleast the roadside assistance would be involving this ultratune branch anyway.

Second pic with the mechanic helping a lady shows you exactly who this deal is prey… aiming for.

Major service parts that you will get hit on are a combination of any of the following - brake pads/rotors, spark plugs, air filter, cabin filter, auto trans fluid or gearbox oil/clutch fluid, brake fluid, engine coolant and air con refrigerant.

Stay away from "deals" on trade services - the best you should always aim for is good service at a reasonable price.

  • "Five year Road Side Assist Coverage begins from date of your first booking" which means after they make $$$$ from you first.

I had a bad experience at this store. Negative vote form me and would like to suggest to go to a better shop.

So how about you tell us, rather than just write write a vague neg comment

  • I might try book it in for early next month and see how i go. I will be requesting nothing be replaced that isnt included in the deal. You never know it could be worth it. I'll reply back with feedback once done, but obviously that'll be too late anyway.

I can actually understand the reasons behind the roadside assistance beginning from the date of the first booking (well might be a gimmick also). How else will they know you have the roadside assistance membership with them as your buying off scoopon and ultratune will only have your details once you come in for that first service. Your not going to carry around the scoopon voucher paper in your car just in case you break down and need them so they know youve got the deal :)

    • ill be interested to see how you go…ie, how much they actually find wrong with your car- i've seen aca shows where the mechanics actually get a bar into the car and break things so they can charge you for them…. id be looking over their shoulder ever chance you get.

    • I bought this scoopon as well and have tried to call them on 3 separate occasions. Each time they haven't picked up the phone. Sounding dodgier and dodgier. Hoping that this can qualify for a refund on the scoopon.

Have you had any success Andyman1908?

      • welcome to the service of scoopon…

for all those who have the time/energy/jump though hoops to get a refund, there are 5 people that dont!

  • I have read too many bad things about both companies.

  • so curious to know how people went with this?

    • was just listening to Ray Hadley (2GB) - apparently one of his listeners gave him the below experience. I was listening to bits and pieces only so do not have the full story.

A lady must have got the service done, then for some reason when she went to pick up the car, they would not give it to her (WTF??). Drama ensued and eventually she called Marrickville police. The cops told Ultra tune to give her the car but when she got back home she noticed they had ripped the rego sticker off or something (???)

edit: state manager Ultratune - marrickville didnt ask head office for permission to do the deal. not happy with franchise owners.

      • Just heard about this on 2GB aswell. I blame mainly Scoopon and their poor due diligence. I really hope they get shut down.

        • well from listening further on, apparently they wanted to do $1500 worth of work on it and when she said no, they held the car hostage.

Another caller called in with similar story for Mascot.

plenty more ultratune dodgy stories came through.
I suggest ppl stay away from them
