Looks like they’re opening some sort of Geely location on the corner of FTG Rd/Princes Highway (next to Repco) in Chadstone

The car actually looks like quite nice

      • +4

        wtf did i just read

    • I test drove it, it was definitely nice. No physical buttons so you would need to work out your own shortcuts, it makes an icecream truck sound when below certain speed. Zeekr and Geely are still establishing their brand here so not sure who they use for servicing and how readily available parts will be. Other than that, I am very well impressed with the amount of tech you get in the car, 16 speaker sound system called Flyme and massage seat.

      • +1

the new update gets rid of the jingle. it's barely audible inside cabin now, electric humming noise. I quite like it

  • -1

Im confused with the servicing. I thought electric cars didnt need servicing? Or is that only if you buy a tesla

    • +3

It's more a check rather than actual service.. and probably change of cabin filters etc. They especially check the health of high voltage electrical system..

      • +1

Oh excellent point about cabin filters.

After seeing the black crap come out of the Subaru liberty's A/C and fan cabin filter. Toyota cabin fans, etc. But in the Fords / Holden days not as black in the cabins.
On the bike, work clothes stained with black soot.
Going from Brisbane to Sunshine Coast, the amount of black soot up my nostrils was shocking. Thus filtered the helmet. And cleaning the foam filters was shocking turn warm water to midnight black from one journey.
We're against the diesel owners who do not maintain their vehicles. Even petrol vehicles can build up with black carbon soot from using low grade petroleum products.

      • -3

brand new car and i need to have it checked after a year, are they afraid the wheels might fall off

        • +1

EVERY brand new car gets checked each year…. What’s your point?

          • @31mop: My experience has been the oil has been changed of a new car every year, was hoping to avoid this by buying an electric car

            • +2

@turk182: Save your money and don’t bother with servicing

          • +4

@31mop: Tesla doesn't. 3 years in and no servicing so far.

        • Depending on the ICE car brand you may need to get it serviced every 6 months. My EV is every year and cost 165$, they just use a computer to plug in and check the traction battery and other electronics

    • +13

Brakes, wheels, joints, hinges, rubbers, suspension, electrics, etc always need interval inspection. Repair or replacement.
And the exterior, they can let you know if there are stone chips, there always be stone chips until they sweep every black bitumen strip daily

What about electrical standards. Most electrical appliances comply with a general power point (10amp) or 15Amp or 30+ Amp. Standard electrical cables.
Yeah if vehicle manufactures make their own electrical cables, the purchase should be included with a electrical cable to charge it. Or at least a relevant low price.
We can always dream telsa (<$700)

      Sweet its right hand drive.
      $43,201 for the complete
$47,281 for the inspire (less range with a sunroof)

      • +3

You think they would do all that inspections?

      • +2

they can let you know if there are stone chips

        Why?

        • Perhaps because they can add some bollocks charge, because they certainly won't touch up under warranty.
          TLDR…. bullshit

    • Theres a reason why Tesla only has a 4 year warranty

      • +1

General warranty is 4 years. Battery and motor is 8 years/160k or 192k depending if you own RWD or AWD models.

        • +3

Exactly the point though, EV drivetrains are relatively bulletproof. Arguably even modern ICE vehicle engines are quite reliable with good maintenance.

The things far more likely to die are everything else. From suspension components, to basic electrics, interior trim, to infotainment systems. And Tesla offers a relatively poor to average warranty there. Plenty of brands regardless of ICE or EV are offering far better bumper to bumper warranties.

          • -3

@FuRyZ: Tesla may not provide a bumper-to-bumper warranty, but I can guarantee that if you treat the "Full Self-Driving" system as a full self-driving system you will end up bumper-to-bumper at high speed :P

  • +8

got a EX5 two weeks ago. I like every part of it except one issue. The car broadcasts sound like an ice cream van when it is doing 30km/hr or under. So every time you stop and start, you will hear the sound. People around you can hear it loudly and prepare to buy ice cream

    • +1

The name no less than a ice cream van. Geely icecream 🍨

    • -1

We are wondering if you took one for a test ride before purchase? if so did it emit the same sounds?
Or are you just in it for ****'s and giggles?

    • Why do they do that? I average about 25km/h throughout lifetime of my car, so that's going to be annoying.

      • +2

Blind people can't hear EV cars at low speed since they're normally so quiet. So, they need to artificially make a noise so blind people have some idea when they're surround for crossing the road etc.

The actual noise played though is up to the manufacturer. Guess they figured it's cute.

      • Umm… given that when the vehicle is stopped it isn't relevant… look on the bright side, aren't electric bicycles wunnerful, and if that's your average speed in a car….. pretty fast!

    • Surely that can be turned off in the screen menu somewhere (low speed pedestrian alert or similar). FFS.

If not, it's probably just using global software not region specific. That's pretty cheap and nasty if so. Hopefully future software updates allow users selection specific to region legislation.

      • +4

update rolling out since yesterday that changes this. shame, i thought the ice cream sound was pretty cute.

    • Sound can’t be turned off. I assume it’ll be change in the future.

    • The OTA update that started rolling out yesterday supposedly changes this to white noise.

    • +4

You can just unplug the speaker until they update the sound file. Edit to say they apparently have updated this in their first OTA update starting to be released by 7th June.

      Summary
      1. The Low Speed Pedestrian Alert or Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS) tone has been changed, and will now be less prominent in the cabin. The sound has been changed to a low hum which will modulate based on speed, and cut off at approximately 30km/h. The tone will change when the
vehicle is in reverse, to ensure pedestrians are aware of the moving vehicle’s direction.
      2. The Navigation will be improved so that upon cancelling a route, all instructions will clear.
      3. The Route Planning function in Navigation will show improved charge capacity calculations at charging points and route destinations.
      4. The CarbitLink app will have greater overall operating stability.

    • +2

All new EVs will need to make a sound of some sort at lower speeds in Australia from November. Hopefully they don't all sound like ice cream vans though 😄

      • +2

think of all the good vibes with mr whippy sounds everywhere!

        • Mr Whippy will be furious

    • I took a test drive and asked this. They said there will be an update.. although there will still be a sound coming at low speeds, it won't be the ice cream truck sound

    • They said they are changing the noise because of the complaints. But yeah annoying the under 30km/h noise rule for all electrics

    • +1

      Just a soundbite (mandated).

Hack it and put in an audio file from something like the Jetsons, crazy frog…Postman Pat…"beep beep..fn …rowl"

    • new patch just released, icecream jingle no more

    • You can unplug the external speaker, this has been covered numerous times on the Geely EX5 Facebook page. It’s easy to get to and a single plug, just unplug and cable tie it.

    • They are rolling out a new update in batches to all EX5 cars to resolve this and replace the ice cream truck music.

    • Years ago, I 'fixed' the beeps from my Toyota reminding me that I'd left the key in the ignition. I stuck a blob of Blu-Tac over the source, a tiny pizo speaker in the footwheel - no more audible beeps.

Maybe there's a similar solution possible with the EX5, although a regular speaker would require more than a blob of Blu-Tac, duct tape and cotton wool? Unlike newer Teslas, owners report that the external speaker in an EX5 can be easily disconnected without the electronics detecting its absence. Tesla's smarts apparently need to 'see' a load on the speaker circuit, but no doubt one of those is cheap on Temu :)

    • I noticed the icecream sound as well, but while I was in the cabin driving around 50km/h I hear therapeutic zen music playing. The salesperson tried to turn it off but couldn't so we were stuck listening to that crap

    • you can just unplug the wire to the external speaker, per https://imgur.com/a/7nCHPdG
also, the new OTA update changed the sound, but you need to wait for the OTA to rollout to yours.

    1. What is Not Covered?

Use of incorrect or contaminated fuels

    Ok

  • Look here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CarsAustralia/comments/1jjj2vu/thou…
Others have reported it plays a music tone.

It can do wheels spins on rainy days in sports mode. That will emit more sounds of tires squealing.

    • +2

Yep it emits an ice cream truck sound at low speeds. However as you drive above 50km/h (as you try and run away from people looking for ice cream), the sound will stop.

Sandra Bullock is looking to do the next Speed movie in this car.

      • +2

So is the ice cream sound still an option? I want the ice cream sound!!!

        • +1

Kids are giggling about it, good to have option to on and off.

    • more likely on the bonnet

  • +1

I believe there's now options for the ice cream sound in the latest update & you can also physically disconnect the speaker under the hood.

    • But… The blind people. Won't somebody please think of the blind people?

      • What about the DEAF people, WTF, and what about these elderly citizens in there sit in battery powered scooters getting around, why are'nt they making sounds??

        • Because once they start talking they go on for HOURS

  • -1

Isn't there no servicing schedule for EVs?

    • +2

Tesla may not have a servicing schedule, but I think all the rest do. The services are overpriced in my opinion, but i expect the service price to stay flat, unlike those of internal combustion engine cars which seem to steadily increase as the vehicle ages.

    • Why would that be the case? There are still brakes, Coolant and filters.

Tesla didn't specify and interval but they still need servicing and will throw an error if you don't service them.

      • radiator coolant and oil filters?
Since brakes aren't covered under warranty, why would they require a manufacturer service schedule?

    • BYD is every year

    Update yesterday apparently

  • 36 month term is expensive. 711 AUD a fortnight for the inspire and drive away in WA. Only good for those who has a car that can knock off 20 grand off the drive away price and be under the 20k loan

  • +8

Firstly, you're pretty close to having to take what's landed as it has to be delivered by the 30th June. It's not clear that you have to take up the finance. If you don't, it's a pretty good deal.

5 years of servicing at their usual cost is $1481 RRP, so you'd be a mug not to get the card and buy the fixed servicing for 3,5 or 7 years at $517, $1,190 or $1,642 respectively.

Not to mention that with the 'free' servicing you have to use it within 3,000 Kms or 4 weeks of the due date or it's rescinded. It's not unreasonable, but if you're not clocking up 20K kms p.a. it's not as important to get there on every anniversary date.

The cable is only $385 retail, so you'd be better off grabbing a mate's shitbox and trying to get 2K for it. Buying said shitbox could see you stuck with it due to the T&Cs.

In NSW, you could pick up the standard model with 7 years of servicing and the cable for $42,224 drive away if you claim both sets of 2K cash back.

    • +1

Seems that only Tesla is falling behind, while other EV makers are picking up the slack.

      • -6

LOL tell me you haven't looked at the sales figures without telling me.

      • +1

Haven't checked the sales figures for May then?

        • Any specific day in May you want to use? or maybe do what a sensible person would do and compare over a longer period like 6m or 1yr.

          • @cloudy: Yeah, and doing that Tesla is still outselling everyone else by miles - what's your point?

        • -2

It’s all fulfilled pre-orders that were made before 2025. Not many new sales of their vehicles.

  • 8 Year unlimited km warranty for the battery… Wow. that's very interesting.. I wish all the EVs had this.

    • +1

8 year warranty only for personal use.

Good deal if you take weekly trips between Melbourne and Sydney, but if you only do 15000km per year, that only gives you 120000km coverage.

      • +1

Well, I do roughly 40,000 km per year for personal use. Everyone is different.

  • Anyone tried trading in a shitbox? Keen to know how your experience went.

    • Unlike Tesla and BYD, Geely is not selling direct and instead has gone with the dealership route. The price you get offered depends on the dealer.

    • $2k trade in as they said my car is worth nothing…

  • Priced against the Atto 3

      • where can you get an Atto 3 for 34k DA?

        • Neither are 34k DA…

      • +3

Base atto 3 is $43k. You must be thinking of the ugly dolphin thing they have, which is a small hatchback.

        • Geely EX5 is currently better value with these promotions…

  • Thanks to Big L

in NSW, standard model with 7 years of servicing and the cable for $42,224 drive away (with both sets of 2K cash back)

Still don't know if the loan is compulsory.

  • wish there was an RWD option

  • -1

I am impressed that this car has sold more than 1500+ this year. For a company that has this, Volvo, Polestar and Zeekr, the total sales figures are indeed very good!
