Has anyone tried one of these with an Aldi/Boost/Belong sim?

    • +2

I would like to know this, too. I use Aldi which uses the Telstra network.

    • +4

My Telstra Samsung Galaxy A30 model is working fine with Boost sim.

    • +1

Same question has been asked the last two times they posted deals on these phones. Closest they came to an answer was:

      Cellmate on 15/07/2019 - 18:54
Hello. We can only guarantee that Telstra will work of course. We cant guarantee that other networks that use Telstra may work.

      • Got the phone, can confirm that it doesn't work with an Aldi SIM. I will get a boost sim soon to test.

        • +1

I use my boost sim in a telstra locked handset without any issues at all.

    • +5

Purchased an A20 from Big W locked to Telstra, and also Sim did not work in it, required unlocking.

      • +4

        Aldi, not also.

        • Thanks Choco!

        • OK, so we've got a No on Aldi and a Yes on Boost. Did you get Telstra to unlock it? And how much did it cost you to get it unlocked?

          • +1

@OZB Al: Sorry for the delayed response. I tried the below service to unlock but they refunded virtually immediately. I am also trying unlocking through website unlock plus, but I think they will also be unsuccessful, di the only option will be through Telstra

            • @Chocoboorin: "Choco" Can you please let me know which network sim you tried that did not work as you have not stated that?

People here are talking about both Boost, Belong and Aldi.

  • +1

That's a steal based off of specs, looks to be competing with the Mi Android One series and Redmi. Considering this is an Aussie phone with an Aussie warranty, quite a bit more compelling too.

  • Anyone know how to unlock one of these if I were to get one ?

    • Web search returns a bunch of sites saying they can give unlock codes…. Buyer beware though.

  • +2

From what I can tell from Samsung Australia's website, it is single SIM and comes with NFC.

    • does not mention NFC in the description, are you sure this particular unit comes with it ?

Would have been good if dual sim…

    • +5

With both SIMs locked to Telstra?

  • +2

Would be good if it was unlocked… They're selling for $279 at JB

  • Vodafone locked A20 has been as low as $169.

  • Will it work with Aldi Mobile that uses same Telstra network.

  • how do i get this unlocked?

  • +4

For unlocking, this is bagman's unlocking service.

    • What do they mean by delivery time I gotta send it to em and wait till it comes back?

      • +1

I believe they mean delivery of the code once you've given him all the info about your phone.

        • +8

I have used bagman twice before. Very good service 👌

          • @rdchristy2: You mean, unlockit.codes you used twice or someone else?

            • @katrodiyar: Hi. Sorry I've only just seen this.

I have used Bagman twice (his ozb username). Looks like he has a webpage called unlockit.codes now? Going from comment above.

But I will sending him a pm to confirm this before I get this phone unlocked (haven't yet received it). Hope that helps!

              • @rdchristy2: Please let me know…Thanks

                • +3

@katrodiyar: Hi again. Can confirm Bagman who I've used successfully in the past, three times actually, is the person from the webpage https://unlockit.codes/

But unfortunately, can also confirm he was unable to provide me with an unlock code this time and refunded my money :-/

              • +1

@rdchristy2: Pls let us all know of the outcome

              • @rdchristy2: I tried this service for this phone, but was refunded

                • @Chocoboorin: Oh no, that's throws a spanner in the works. 😫

Keep us posted with the cheapest solution… Will be using mine with Aldi sim when it arrives. Apparently that doesn't work though?

                  • +2

@rdchristy2: Got it yesterday, confirm that Aldi SIM does not work with this phone.

    • Looks like $13 for a code for a Telstra locked Samsung. That seems pretty good if it's real.

  • -2

Better get it from MobileCiti with their 10% off deal for "$249.30" delivered.

    • +1

but this is $189 delivered …

      • -1

That's locked one, but MobileCiti one is unlocked.

  • +3

This is a great phone for the price - got one for a relative. Reasonably snappy, okay camera, NFC (Samsung/Google Pay support), B28, fingerprint reader and an AMOLED display.

The only complaint I'd have if I were buying is the display resolution - 720x1560 isn't bad, but the pentile sub-pixel layout makes the perceived resolution far lower than on an LCD of similar pixel density (e.g. Oppo AX5S when I was comparing side by side).

Seemed faster than the Oppo though side-by-side and the display (colour reproduction) is beautiful.

    • A20 vs A30 vs A50

      • +3

Galaxy A30 - much higher resolution display, slightly upgraded CPU, same 3GB RAM for the 32GB variant and slightly better camera. Side-by-side with the A20 in my short period of testing, it definitely felt slower (possibly due to the higher-res display = more processing power/RAM required but this may be wrong.

A50 is a huge upgrade - much better camera, CPU and more RAM. Haven't tried it though.

        • Any thoughts on the A70? Screen size is pretty apealling.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: Looks good… haven't used one myself but it has a glass back and massive (4500mAh) battery, so not a bad option for the price.

  • +1

Have an unlocked A20. Very happy with it.

Came from a work supplied iphone 6s.

  • Any of these A20 not bloated with providers firmware?

oooh very interested but would also need to unlock to put it onto Telechoice

  • Did anyone get an email back from cellmate after purchasing? I don't have any record of my order

      • Any way to get this price nearer the BigW deal?

        • Hello.
The Big W deal was for Vodafone locked Samsung Galaxy A20.
Unfortunately at this stage the price is $189 and most likely will be going up on our website after the deal ends.
          Kind Regards
          CELLMATE

I'm curious if the A20 has better battery life than the A30.

Theoretically it should - lower screen resolution, and slower CPUs, same battery.

I'm curious because I'm pretty disappointed with the A30's battery performance (drains pretty fast for such a large battery, but the charging is fantastic- 30 mins to almost full).

  • Thanks to the OP, I ordered one. I am expecting phone the coming monday.

Can anyone suggest a good quality shockproof tough case for this phone?

    • We appreciate your business.
