  • Cheaper than Gerry?

Discount for pre order means Samsung are expecting it to struggle to sell?

    • +2

Everyone is currently struggling to sell phones. People are keeping phones as not much to gain from new ones. Samsung has always done pre order specials btw, I got my note 8 pre order for $999 with bonus charging dock and headphones.

      • +6

most people will disagree with me, but if im paying $1000+ for a phone, I expect it to to last more than 2 years,

        my tv was $1000,
        my fridge $1000

and they all last more than 2 years

sure phones get outdated, but I dont believe a phone at the 2 year mark becomes so obsolete that its doesnt function
especially when $1000+ gets you a flagship phone

Samsung/Apple etc are smart in their marketing that the make consumers feel they need to upgrade

        • Not sure where this came from, but yes I agree. Luckily they come with 2 years warranty, 2 years OS updates and 3 years security updates.

        • +2

Completely agree. I'm still rocking my S7 Edge (been 3.5 years now) and the primary issue is the planned obsolescence with the battery.

        • -2

phones hold better resale value and are more liquid

good luck reselling your tv after 5 years for more than a few hundred bucks at best

          • @furythree: My 5 yr old flagship Samsung in excellent condition would only probably be worth $200

        • It's not so much that a 2 year old phone is unuseable (though battery degradation contributes towards it). It's that people love new and shiny things. You're right about that.

          • @lostn: Often I would hear someone say.
Oh the new model bla bla came out. I was on a 2 year contract and had 9 months to go.
So they gave me a $400 trade in But i had to pay another $800 to get it.

Btw, I'm up to my eyeballs in debt

        • i'm expecting 3-4 yrs use from my 1k phone…

i'm still on a s8+ but the note10 looks good if i can get for under 1k under EPP…

  • I'm so gutted over the loss of the headphone jack.
The merged power and Bigsby button is a bit of an eyebrow raiser too. I was all geared up to order one, but having serious second thoughts now.

    • +1

Actually now I’ve moved across to Bluetooth I wouldn’t go back. The only PITA is making sure the headphones are charged up but not having to play with the cable is much better.

      • Ahh good to know, thanks mate.
My big gripe is the amount of cash I've invested in wired headphones. I guess there's always the adapter option.

        • We have a little Bluetooth adapter that seems to work pretty good. It probably wouldn’t pass muster with an audiophile but it is fine for us. I got some soundpeats headphones for about $35 that are pretty good.

          • @try2bhelpful: Running nice headphones in BT mode makes it a waste of good headphones.

Like those people who buying Sennheisers for gaming because they heard it's really good for gaming, and then they plug it into the dual shock 4 and use the crappy BT dac inside it.

If you're going to plug nice headphones into your DS4, you may as well just buy a pair of Astros.

            • @lostn: They wouldn’t be great for proper systems but they are fine for portable systems out and about.

    • I was looking into it today, I hated the separate bixby button. I also never used the fingerprint scanner as it was on the back of the phone. So now theyve changed to a scanner on the screen and integrated the bixby into the power button (you have to hold it down) so i wont accidentally hit it any more. It comes with a dongle, I'll probably end up just buying a few spares and keeping them connected to my wired headphones. I'm upgrading from a note 8 which seems a good idea, if you had a note 9 id be sceptical.

Aren't we thinking there will be a eBay deal for this phone soon?

    • In a few months, sure.

In the meantime, it's either going to be jacked in price when there's a discount, or miraculously sold out and listing pulled just before the sale begins.

For all intents and purposes the Note 10 "series" looks like a major step backward from the Note 9 release

    The Note 9 512GB pre-order breakdown:
    * $1500 discounted price
    * 10% cashback for final price of $1350
    * Fortnite skin which could be sold to further reduce final price
    * MicroSD card slot for all models
    * Hybrid/Dual sim for 512GB Australian variant

    Note 10 pre-order breakdown:
    * Starting price $1500 for base product
    * Only 256GB storage for N10/N10+
    * No MicroSD slot for N10
    * No 3.5mm jack for any model
    * "Free" wireless headphones with inflated RRP
    * No dual/hybrid SIM options for Australian variants
    * Confusing feature set between models

    Hard pass from me.

    • The 10+ is hybird SIM. Check Amazon listing. Because of the lack of headphones jack I'm half passing rhis. I may have to settle for S Tab with Spen plus LG V60 phone.

    • aud dropped

you can also be a little less biased with your intentional ambiguous comparison. Samsung dont owe you anything to offer bonuses, just be glad you get any compared to apple which want to bumfist you with no bonuses

      Note 10 pre-order breakdown
$1599 for 256gb, 512 seems to be 5g model. (it has been 1 year since note 9 and 6months since s10, so naturally they would want to shift ppl to 5G as the "baseline" flagship model as time moves forward. when s10 came out the 5g was a harder sell, as carriers offer it it makes sense they would use it as the new flagship. Also licensing cost of 5g is more than the 4g of note 9 so not even a fair comparison)

      • Only 256GB storage for N10/N10+ -512gb exists for 5g
      • MicroSd/Hybrid for 256gb note10+
      • No 3.5mm jack for any model - use a $1 dongle? buy 20 if you need to if you have that many locations and legacy devices so u will never forget it. whats $20 in the face of a $1500 phone?
      • "Free" wireless headphones with inflated RRP - so discount it by 50% and sell it for $250. still worth more than the $150 galaxy buds
      • No dual/hybrid SIM options for Australian variants - yes there is
      • Confusing feature set between models - whats confusing? Entry model is lower spec. 256 10+ gives you everything except 5g. 5g gives you everythng except hybrid sim
      • -1

Intentionally ambiguous? Let me break it down for you a bit more if it's too much for you to comprehend.
        * Half the storage for the same price as last years flagship
        * Removed features for a supposed flagship phone (MicroSD Card expansion, dual-sim and 3.5mm at the $1500 price point)

I don't owe Samsung anything and if they are going to charge more while offering less they simply won't get my money.

        • It's not a decent jump from a 9 to the 10, but I've got the 8 and its a massive improvement on that. I'm going to get mine through Telstra,as the monthly payments are 47 dollars for a 36 month deal or 70 dollars for a 24 month deal.

        • -3

youre still wrong about the hybrid sim

the 3.5mm isnt a deal breaker for the less whiny people who have moved onto wireless or dont have Alzheimers and can remember to leave their dongle attached or use the ones in the box.

the only valid point is the storage. but again, if you factor in import costs due to AUD deflation compared to last year and factor in that the freebie headphones this year are WORTH MORE than the galaxy buds from last year. its relatively comparible. its not so much that they gave you less, the tradeoff is just different and not 1:1 comparible. The Galaxy note 9 512gb model was also RRP 1799 vs note 10+ 256gb model at 1699 (or 1599 at most places). So its hardly a 1:1 comparison to begin with

You also forget its a higher specced phone, with a better camera, processor, bigger display. These are things your note 9 isnt going to beat it with. You have no idea whether it costs the same to source the newer hardware. the screen is bigger so definitely costs more to manufacture.
and theres no rule that says each years new model has to be the same price as the previous. THeres a reason the original note was in the high hundreds of dollars and latest gen has been trending to the high thousands. hardware advances, inflation occurs and not necessarily linearly

and yes, the way you half assedly researched it and listed out the note 10 specs is intentionally trying to paint it in a negative light. But hey nobody is forcing you to buy anything so i dunno why you are wasting time here whinging

its fine to be upset that it didnt turn out how you want. but you didnt do a fair detailed analysis. its not so black and white, despite the average consumer only caring about a basic spec sheet

If you do go ahead don't forget to add headphone to cart (they zero out at checkout) I almost forgot! Good thing is you can always cancel until they ship if a better deal comes up or you change your mind.

Sell headphones on Ebay, cashrewards, and TRS claim and get's it close to 1k if your travelling anytime soon.

    • what really you need to add it to the cart?

      • +1

        This is what it says

"With the purchase of select Samsung Galaxy Note10 Series you will receive bonus Samsung Wireless Noise Cancellation headphones valued at $499.

Add both products to cart (Samsung Galaxy Note10 of your choice and headphones), discount will be then applied automatically at checkout.

Offer ends 22nd of August at 11:59pm AEST or while stock lasts.

        See Terms & Conditions"

      • +1

Wow thank you i had to cancel the order and re-do it

        • your welcome I almost did the same thing!

        • does it take the money straight away or only when it's about to ship?

    • im torn between EPP 1349 price vs amazon which hinges on 3.5% cashback and ambiguous resale value of headphones

seems like effort to monitor and resell to get a roughly $50 saving assuming you can dump the headphones for $250

      • I can't say this enough. If you have 28 Degrees (which you really should), pay the higher price and get the free headphones. Keep them or sell them. But when it comes time to cash in on price drops, you get more money back than you would paying a lower price with no headphones. Plus the headphones are a bonus.

In one year, just before Note 11 releases, I expect this thing might be clearance price at $700 or less. Then you claim a cashback of $1000, and you still got to keep your AKGs.

If you go the EPP route, you'd be claiming back $650 with no headphones.

Remember, the S10 series has been on EPP for 35% off mere months after it launched. That's not even clearance price.

        • Are the claims always successful in case of price drop?

          • @Karansingh: I've never had a rejection.

Most of the time they never even ask for evidence of the price cut. I'd be more than happy to provide them the URL, but there's nowhere in the claim form for you to do that.

        • but does Amazon AU consider Australian retalier?

          • @CDG: Yes.

Also, it doesn't have to be an Australian retailer.

        • Thanks heaps for the tip! Just applied for it for an overseas trip. Quick one, do you need to pay for the protection plan until you claim back or is it enough if you have that in the month of purchase? Also, T&Cs says; “Shopper’s Protection costs 1% of the monthly closing balance of your account“ - in my view if I pay ky card before the end of the period it is going to be free. Maybe I’m just too optimistic :)

          • +1

@rszirmai: I would assume it's only during the period you purchased it.

You are correct. If you pay the balance before the statement date, you will have a $0 balance, and no fee to pay.

        • Hi,

If order through Amazon, the invoice would have both the phone and the headset, and a promotion applied makes the final price $1599.
Would this affect the insurance claim later on? If order through other retails, I guess the headset is not listed on the invoice, simply comes as a bonus gift?

          • @aboutconfig: I couldn't say for sure, but I had a similar deal when I bought an S9+ during the free 512GB SD card promo (both items appeared on the receipt), and I still got price protection. All I did was explain that one is a free gift that I did not pay for.

If you do the same, they will accept it. That is if they even ask for proof. I doubt they will ask. The price you paid is the expected price so they wouldn't question it. For me, I ordered through Samsung EPP and they didn't have access to EPP pricing.

I'm fairly certain they won't ask for proof. They rarely ever do. The amount you paid will appear on your credit card statement which they do have access to. But if they do ask, all you have to do is explain there was a promo for free headphones, and Amazon chose to do things this way for accounting purposes. Other retailers had the same promo but do it differently.

They cannot argue that you technically paid less than RRP for the phone and some amount for the headphones to total the RRP of the phone. You did not buy the headphones. You only have them because they're free and if they weren't free, you wouldn't have bought them. There is no legitimate quarrel with your protection claim.

    • What's the point of doing trs if it's over 900 dollars? Have to pay the gst back upon entry

  • Might be stupid question but the Amazon model is 5G correct?

    EDIT:
Amazon listing says it is but also states hybrid Sim and Samsung sites states Hybrid sim is only on LTE model… from what I can tell though there is only one s10+ note model in AU so should be safe

    • FYI (direct from Samsung Australia):

“Note 10+ is the only hybrid sim model. Note10 and Note10+ 5G are single sim.”

      • That makes no sense the Amazon listing states it has both hybrid sim and 5G?

        • +1

There’s 2 versions of the Note10+ for the Aussie market. A dual SIM version and a single SIM 5G version. That’s what Samsung Australia confirmed.

          • @[Deactivated]: Having a closer look Amazon has removed the 5G part I'm 99% sure this is NOT the 5G model be aware if that is the model your after

  • I know people find anything to complain about but no headphone jack on the note is a real bummer for me.
Their flagship should have all features. I hate having to charge my headphones. I just want to leave my headphones in my bag and not worry about them.

    • They do make USB C - 3.5mm adaptors

  • is the note10 on EPP?

    • +1

yes, 20% off but no bonus AKG.

If it follows in the S10's footsteps, EPP will have 35% off in a few months time.

      • cheers … will prob wait for the 35% wont be needing the akg… and dont think id get a decent price back if i sold them

  • Thats interesting

    https://www.amazon.com.au/b?node=7272158051&pf_rd_i=B07VJ3CB…

Pic shows AKG headphones, but description says Samsung Headphones

    • +2

its the AKG ones by samsung who owns harmon kardon and AKG a subsidiary of HK

  • A bit disappointed about note 10, no 90h refresh rate, no headphone jack, no longer the everything package.

  • Be aware the 5G model only comes in 512GB so this is definitely not the 5G model if that is what your after

  • Is this the 5G version?

  • -2

I see a similar deal at officeworks

    https://www.officeworks.com.au/campaigns/samsung?cm_sp=perso…

Anyone know if i can bring down the price from this officework deal with a giftcard or something?

    I trust officeworks over amazon.

  • Has anyone pre-ordered any phones from Amazon AU? They don't seem to be offering delivery on the release date and I was wondering how far past the release date to expect delivery. Obviously it will vary based on delivery location, but I'd love to here some anecdotal evidence.

    • @JacobScoob
The only things I've ever pre-ordered from Amazon AU are games. For pre-order games they usually label "The item will be released on Date X". Date X being the official release day for the game in Australia. The same label is applied on the Note 10 product page.

In the past, I've gotten delivery attempts on the release day.

Where did you see that they wouldn't be offering delivery on the release date?

      • Well they're not guaranteeing it, if they do guarantee it the label "The item will be released on Date X" is replaced with a different label mentioning that Amazon guarantee that it will be delivered on release day

  • Can someone advise what is the exact cashback available for buying a phone on amazon?.I dont like the "up to 10% blah blah" if i am spending more than $1000.

    • if you click the 'cashback' button under the 'go to deal' button up the top it explains further. Looks like 4.5% at ShopBack and 3.5% at Cashrewards

  • Can't decide to buy the 4G or 5G version, you sure will use this phone for at least two or three years right?

    • +1

      Go for 4G version.

      Reasons>>
1.It will take at least 1 to 2 years for 5G to be available widely.

2.Need to pay more for 5G version.

3.5G version will have worse battery life as evidenced in S10 5G discussion on whirlpool.

4.These are early 5G phones. The Note 12 will have much better 5G for sure.

5.Whirlpool says right now 5G speeds are not a lot better than 4G.

6.There is hardly any use case right now requiring 5G.Also the carriers are not giving you 1 TB download quotas either. Also the carriers might charge you more for 5G plans.

      • Thanks mate.
Is 22th Aug the last day to place order to get the pre-order bonus ?

  • What's the warranty time for this phone if you buy from Amazon

  • It seems order from the good guys gonna to be cheaper than this deal
    1699*0.9-100 = 1429
for some people, there's also $80 store credit via email invitation
