      • The CIS was the same as previous deal. However the wording on their system showed a $800 phone credit that they might want you to pay out if you want to leave contract.

        • +2

Without a change to the CIS the worst they can hit you with is the $390 ETC (as listed in the CIS).

    • I thought it was always known there would be an ETC for this plan, what people were doing was switching to the month to month plans then cancelling with no charge.

      • Might work, I'll wait to hear if anyone is successful before I go ahead as it ends Sunday. I can't take on $100 per month (45 last deal + 55 this one with port disc) at the moment.

      • Telstra doesn't know that you are given a gift when signing up from JB. Some JB employee put a note to Telstra when a customer sign up, which makes it difficult to avoid ETC cause then Telstra knew that you are given a gift.

If the plan name is changed by explicitly saying "Huawei $800 phone credit", then I doubt anyone will still able to change their plan without paying ETC

        • +2

          Even if you paid the ETC charge of $390, I suppose $390 + $199 = $589 for a new P30 isn't that bad

          • @puzzles2: Yes, you are right. Still very good price for the phone, but I guess people here are just greedy.

  • Is it possible to see what the contract says ie. what kind of plan it is on paper, before actually being fully committed to it and having to pay?
Im on the fence on whether to gamble or not.

  • No option for the p30 pro is there?

  • Just managed to get mine changed to a month to month by speaking to a very nice rep. I did go up a plan though to the $80 one as that suits me better so not sure if that helped.

    • +1

So you managed to change from $65 jb hi-fi plan to $80 month to month plan? Did you do it through online chat? And did it take much work/persuasion, what did you say to them?

      • +2

Correct. Not much persuasion at all, told them I just signed up to this new plan at JB, however I realised that I need more data than what it has, then mentioned to them that I saw on their webpage that to change within the same plan group there is no fee, then said I hope they would waive the ETC (probably didn't need to say this bit but I took a upfront approach). They didn't even mention the ETC, just went through the usual upgrade process and said it'd take up to 48 hours.

I also asked if they were still offering $10 for porting over, but she said that deal is finished and unfortunately she didn't have a way to add a discount.

The fee page I'm referring to and linked them just in case was (https://www.telstra.com.au/support/category/mobiles-tablets/…). I also find that you get better service if you do it late at night out of hours and just be nice and upfront and make it sound like you made a mistake with plan choice and they're doing you a favour :)

        • Is this the m2m plan? Then you can cancel after 48 hours

          • +1

@h4zey: Correct, the 100gb is already live, plan isn't but my chat transcript refers to large month by month in the T&C's linked.

And I assume I can cancel? Not planning to as I want the 5G for when my Note 10 comes end of month :)

    • Did you get the plan from this current deal or from previous deal?

      • +2

From current deal, I was with Vodafone yesterday prior to the change.

        • If your contract from jb hifi mention anything about the handset?
          Thanks

          • +1

@Ughhh: Not that I could see, only thing is the $65 JB HiFi reference

    • Did your JB plan says anything about the "$800 credit Huawei"?

      • Not that I noticed, but I didn't look in great detail

  • If you were to buy another items worth of 101 and get this deal, would you be able to claim TRS?

    • +1

You don't even need to buy another item, the invoice will list the $999 for the phone, not $199.

      • Fair dinkum…. So the invoice has invoiced amount at $999?
So $90 back from TRS if that's the case.

        • That's correct, enjoy.

          • @glassyan: Hey thanks. Just purchased and as you said invoice is $999, $800 paid as gift card and balance paid as Visa.

            • @ozstig: Cool! Can you confirm the GST amount shown on your tax invoice, please?

              • @yjm: On mine it said $90.82

                • @puzzles2: Thanks, mate. Heading off to JB shortly!

  • +3

Just signed up to the $65 plan on JB and the moment I got home I contacted telstra to move to the month to month plan and managed to do so. Moved onto the $80 month to month plan, the rep said to me "Any termination charge from current contract will be waived." so I presume I can cancel whenever as I'm now on the month to month plan. P30 for $200 bucks!

    • wouldn't that be 280? have you tried cancelling it?

      • No.

Telstra charge pro-rata so you can port out and just pay for a couple of days

    • What’s the worst case scenario you have to pay out if this switching to m2m doesn’t work?

    • Hey mate, your a legend, was on the fence, but decided to go for it after your comment. Did it yesterday, but I actually just changed it to m2m online. No chat needed. No contract now, will be cancelling it soon!

      • No worries, glad to see it worked for you too. Has your plan actually changed to the M2M contract yet? My rep did it on Saturday and said it would take 24 hours but it still hasn't changed to a M2M contract.

        • Yep - shows on web site and tesltra app (had to re-install it though) that I am now on $60 pm and m2m. No contract end date. I got a few messages, emails trickle in slowly for updated contract. I did it Sunday 5pm and I reckon updated about mid day today. Try the website or, re install the app.

          • @andyfc: Gonna try this to, let us know once you successfully cancel it

          • @andyfc: according to this you will have to pay early termination charges since you are decreasing your plan inclusion?

            • @h4zey: I just got my final bill for the original plan of $2.19 (one day). When I ordered it, there was no up front cost.

I guess if you're worried, go up to 80 pm m2m plan?

Edit: it may have been because I am not actually decreasing inclusions, still 60 GB pm or maybe that is only applicable for before June 2019. It is a bit unclear.

              • @andyfc: Just gave mine a go last night, still waiting for it to change over. Have you cancelled your plan? I wonder if you can port out and join any JB deal again in a month time lol

              • @andyfc: So you've successfully cancelled your M2M plan? Does that mean you only paid $199 + $2.19 for a P30?

                • @puzzles2: Not yet, was going to give it a few days, maybe jump on live chat and just confirm theres no etc.

Given new plan doesn't say any etc. Theres no contract end date, and ive got my final bill for the original plan, touch wood its ok.

                  • @andyfc: mine successfully change to $50 m2m with no additional cost as well, however i can't seem to find the bill, how did you find your original plan bill of $2.19

                    • @h4zey: Mine was emailed 2 days after change of plan.

                      • +1

@andyfc: awesome! will you lose the number if you cancel it? and can you simply port out now?

                        • @h4zey: I assume I can port out now. For good measure, I'll wait for the bill payment to clear, drop a line to live chat to make sure all good with ETC, then port to Aldi 25pm prepaid, keeping the number.

                    • @h4zey: Shortly after i changed to M2M, i got charged $67.10 because with the JB plan you prepay for the month ahead.
can you let me know what your bill is?
I signed up on Saturday, and i moved to M2M on Tues.

                      • @Arghs: yeah i got $65 bill, i wonder what happen to this bill?

                        • @h4zey: normally i would dispute the bill, but im too scared to draw attention in this scenario. haha

                          • @Arghs: don't need to dispute, just check with them over the chat

      • i just tried this too. its given me an order number with $60 M2M plan listed. is that right?

        • do you have to pay the early termination charges since you are decreasing the plan inclusion.

          • @h4zey: Ok mine changed to m2m. Did it via the website, not chat. Didn't say anything about etc. But I cant say for sure until the bill comes thru.

  • Tried to get on the deal today, but I cannot do it apparently you need to be away from Telstra for 30 days. Even if you buy a 2nd number, your record will still be in their database hence you cannot do port in.

    • You should be able to port a different number. I signed up to Vodafone with a $2 Sim and $10 recharge and used that number to port in. They still had my details on their system but the could still process the port without any issue.

I didn't use my Telstra number from the last deal as I'm happy with the $45pm for 60gb.

      • Do you have other number that is with Telstra? I have 2 numbers, one currently on Telstra plan and the other with Kogan. They say I don't qualify because I already have Telstra plan, even though I want to port in my Kogan number

        • Yes I have a Telstra number on a plan from the last JB deal with the $500 gift card.

    • What he/she said is completely false, I signed up having only been away from Telstra for a week and the staff didn't even check, all he did was ask me what number I want to port from and who is the current provider so he can initiate the porting process; at no stage did he ask me whether I had been away from Telstra for 30 days.

      • I'm still with Telstra, but the number that I want to port out is not. Not sure if your case is the same with mine, but I'll try again tomorrow with different person. I'll try not to mention that I already have Telstra number.

      • I was asked if I have Telstra account too.
They also said they can't release phone until it has ported to Telstra.

      • I can confirm the previous person at JB was wrong, I tried other store today and manage to get the deals even though my records is still in their system. However, couldn't take the phone straight away cause the port in process might take 1-2 days

        • Had same experience but my number ported within half an hour from Optus so returned to store and picked phone up

  • For anyone wanting to port in today, Vodafone doesn't process porting on Sundays. I just tried with the $400 good guys voucher. Will have to go back tomorrow to collect my gift card

    • Do you know if the good guys use the same system as JB hi-fi? I'm trying to figure out if they know if I already have a contract with Telstra when I go to sign up?

  • Does it take 48 hours to change to mont-to-month plan? I have successfully changed the plan but the order is still pending and the rep said its gonna take 48 hours to reflect on my account.

    • hmm took me about 2 hours for the m2m plan to be active.

Even in the order tracking part is says - "Add Plan Contract Cancellation Waiver" along with the other usual messages when changing plan .

Couldn't be more clearer that it is now on month 2 month with no cancellations fees from the previous contract.

      • How long did it for you to get a order confirmation email?

      • what m2m plan you are changing it into from this plan? according to this you will have to pay early termination charges if you are decreasing your plan inclusion, is this applicable to this plan?

        • Took about two hours for everything to go through.

I had two plans - one up to $80 m2m and the other $60 m2m which is a downgrade.

However I have a transcript of the rep confirming twice no ETC and also screenshots of the order I tracked which mentions ETC being waived.

Mind you I did have to try twice ..first rep flat out said ETC and so I just disconnected and tried again.

          • @Roadie999: so you change this thru chat, i wonder what will happen if you downgrade them online

            • @h4zey: I think if you do it yourself online you’ll be up for ETC.

Doing via chat allows rep to help out at their discretion

          • @Roadie999: just out of curiosity, are they both under your name and both sign up to this JB deal?

  • phone died day after deal ended :(

    • +1

This deal come up quite often, just wait a couple weeks.

      • they're running the same deal but with oppo reno z for $99.
should be ok for the time being.

        • +1

Well, definitely not the best deal, but if its urgent then better than nothing.

  • Has anyone successfully cancelled the m2m plan without any charges yet?

    • I will do it tomorrow

      • Let us know how it goes! Hopefully it works out

      • Did you manage to cancel successfully? Any charges?

    • you need to give it 30 days as telstra is issuing some bills at the end of month

ie. I got notified of an upcoming $390 fee

      • After get jb hi fi plan I go home change to m2m straight away. 3 or 4 days after I got a bill for my account on to the jb hi fi plan due for $2.1. Check everything is on m2m plan there are no any jb hi fi. Paid it last night and then port out to optus. Now wait for Monday or Tuesday let see. For me understanding, $800 off and the watch gifted are promotion that huawei push to retailer to clear their stock then they pay back or credit back to jb hi fi. All jb is just to get it and confused consumer with the plan will be get back $800 if they cancel the plan. There are no chance for them to get both $ from consumers and manufacturers if go out to ACCC they might be get trouble too. Can see that huawei is trying to gain their sale even actually they get loss. Just for them to show up that their sale is higher than Apple in the economy fight. However in this fight we all know who is the true winner and who is lost more even sale more!!!

        • So you've ported out already? Any issues so far?

  • Tried 3 times today to transfer to Telstra M2M plan, did not succeed.

the second time the rep told me that he would like to change my plan but there is an ETC in the system he cannot avoid.

nothing mentioned about the phone credit though. Also asked about the port-in credit, the rep told me the offer is not on market now.

I wonder if in Telstra store, the staff can do the plan transfer or not, but used out my patience today online.

maybe I tried this too late and Telstra fixed the loophole? anyone succeeded?

    • I did it online myself. Can you not do that now?

      • so you did it without goinh thru the online Chat? then the ETC must have been applied, didn't it?

        • There will be a screen with any termination costs. Mine had none

          • @googoogaga: I think on your CIS there says about the ETC, not quite sure if it would be that easy though.
better check your next bill when it's out.

            • @asyoufake: I wouldn't do it online, you can't do anything if you got billed with ETC since no one actually promise you to waive the ETC.

    • It is depend on the agent you're talking to and it is dependent on in how is your reason as well. I find out that it is easier to tell that mistake buy the plan to give my kid to watch online video and YouTube kids, and my kids complain it is not enough for them to use force me to upgrade plan to higher data plan. Then I we saw telstra has $80 m2m plan with huge gb suite my kids better. All rep are happy to please the kids. Good luck to yours. Try it again.

      • thx mate.

I tried already with the $80 m2m today, though not with the kids reason(since I don't have any kids).
I've been very polite and nice, but they all just pulled up my contract and told me the ETC cannot be waived for 12month contract.
I've tried the upfront method, by which is telling the rep in advance whether they can waive the ETC; also the 'innocent' method, to act like not knowing and ask the rep for help waive it.

Maybe my bad luck with the reps. 3 times today and once yesterday.

        • They don't check you got kid mate. Just start with the kids and nicely ask them help to please the kids just. Let them do anything. No need to ask for the waiving. If he is not nice he will stop you with the fee. If he not say anything let him do it. Inform the customer about the fee before change plan is the rep's responsibility. Try with diff agent at night time better. Good luck with yours!

        • they will be cracking down on it now since all these people on ozbargain

          • -5

@AussieMark: What do you mean? Do you mean they will fix it now or they are lost profit?
I don't think they are lost here. For these promotions and flexibility of telstra, I think telstra and jb are both winners ahead to optus and Harvey. They will be more popular and sure more customers will be boating on telstra + jb when they can get what need. It is proof that more ozbargain are happy to stay with telstra now. I think if telstra offer cheaper price plan better gb, they will be #1 on the market, however they till live strong when sell plan for 3rt party. The most loser in this promotion is Huawei, proof that I am luckily wrap it for $999 with anotber 12month plan get $300gc to get galaxy note 10 plus $1699 but paid only counter for $400. Then I will get another $100 gc when I pick up the note. End up I was paid from Huawei to buy the note 10 plus with extra $ when sell watch and headphone. I will keep the phone unopen till look for iPhone 2019. If iPhone over Note10+, I will do another 4th plan to wrap note10+ for iPhone 2019. Don't know whether iPhone pre-order bundle with any gift, if so… This will be the most deal of the year from huawei (looser) for SAMSUNG OR APPLE (WIINNERS) who are more popular and reliable in customer privacy.

            • +2

@cmdnxtt: Either JB or Telstra still lose a lot, you see these kind of deals from JB came up quite often these past 3 months. Its not just Huawei phone but also Gift card, TV, Oppo phones, etc.

Also your plan is good, but its not 100% guaranteed that you will get away with it. You are lucky till now that you don't face any problem changing JB plan to m2m plan, but who knows next time you do it they already fix this loophole. Also you paid Note 10 plus during pre order, if they write the gift card and headphones gift in your receipt it will be more difficult for you to exchange it to other phone later on. I know you were lucky to have your P30 swapped with other phone, but no one in this thread succeed to swap it with other phone. Why not tell Ozb which store did you go and who's the rep that is super nice to give you all these bargains?

              • @yummypinacolada: Hi, you could say I am lucky. For me it is not only I am lucky, but I have a help from super nice rep, we can call he is a hero. As you may watch on the incredible cartoon, when Bob a super hero playing a role as bank broker, he is on the poor people side who need help to avoid greedy boss. All the bank are doing benefit from show up what customer think they might get benefits when come along with their contract. However, they are hiding other side of documents that are required from government to protect consumers. Bob are nice to point out for poor old lady to get her real benefit. So the boss are very angry ask why all customers who deal with him are expertise in every policy that could benefit them instead more to the company. Then he got fired. Bob are hero. Do we will destroy the rep's life the same when we expose his detail? I am sure there are few hiding ozb working to against benefit for ozb communities. They might hit on the nice rep who is just silently doing his job on the guideline of company along helping his customers having better deal. We could not hurt him in any way by expose where he work. He has his family to feed too mates. If you think those telco are lost, you totally are wrong. The telco, the bank…all they're super rich. They are billionaire. Their benefits from normal buyers ever year are billions. How much people on ozb do you think they are in Australia buyers. Only 1% of Australia 's population. Only 3k more click on this topic of the deal so poor number. So please let 1% of us confidentially to share our experience to work out best deals. All obz are just need how to get the deals, check it, belive it and go out to find their "hero", just that. Please don't ask where he is, what his name is. Leave our hero free to help fellow ozbs that is the best way you can get deals. Beleave me all telco, big businesses are strong and live long. How could you tell the price for note 10 plus $1699 on the market but sell on telco friend and employee are half $850. This is my answer mates. Take care!

              • @yummypinacolada: For those are waiting of p30 pro deal. Sure there are deal for this model soon as US has announced extend for Huawei 90 days (including Google). The effect is not included current models. However sure Huawei will push another promotion to clear out p30 series soon for mate 30 series coming. Be confident to buy p30 series as you got 2 years upgrade too.
