Not when you compare it to a Sonos Play:3 price tag

      • -6

        I'm comparing it to TEAC.

        • So you like comparing the price of steak to apples then do you?

          • -1

            @BenMHarvey:

comparing the price of steak to apples

            nope, speakers with speakers.

            • @jv: Yeah which TEAC speaker then mate? Yeah your comparing speakers same as I compared food mate. If you specific with a model maybe your opinion would be of benefit to someone.

                which TEAC speaker then mate?

                The good ones.

  • +2

Good price for a great speaker.

      • +3

JV you really tickle my pickle.

      • +1

Buy 2 and pair them for stereo Effect!!!!

        • -7

I've tried it with the minis. They lag a bit.

          • @jv: I have the minis paired and mine don't lag at all

            • @dmac80: Even if they do you can adjust delay can't you?
I know you can in a speaker group.

        • +6

Reminded me of Steve Jobs when he said iPad can easily multitask - you just need to buy 2 iPads!

          • @Blue Cat: 2 Ipad Pros, each with 4 speakers!

      • It is stereo. Just not very separated

  • Serious question, I'm not too interested in the smart side of things (I'm a bit primitive like that) Is there a better sounding wireless speaker I could buy for similar money?

    • +2

Depends what you want from a wireless speaker.

If you're happy with just streaming music over Bluetooth, there's probably quite a number of soundbars that would sound just as good. Or you could consider any number of more conventional bookshelf speaker sets, like this one: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/475761

If you want to be able to cast to a speaker (WiFi rather than Bluetooth) then this is probably one of the better choices. You don't have to use the voice assistant part, and you can disable the microphones entirely if you have privacy concerns.

      • Cheers for that. Didn't know you could disable the microphones. In truth it's probably other people in the house that are not into the smart part more than me. Very tempted.

      • Unless you're using Apple Music, then the only choice is to pair Bluetooth… and you can't play to a speaker group, just one speaker.

    • +1

Not for similar money. The next step is a Sonos Play 5. And then KEF LSX.

    • +1

Other option would be Sonos Play:3

    • +1

Or a pair of Sonos Play:1 for $370 thereabouts when on offer. Price wise it's not too far off your budget and you get proper L/R channel separation with this stereo pair.

$284.05 with office works price match?

    • can we?

    • I phoned Officeworks and tried however they rejected it because part number GA00222-AU or just GA00222 is not listed anywhere on Google store website.

Might have better luck in store but stock is low in store in NSW.

      • +3

That sucks considering if you scroll to the bottom of the linked sale page at google it has "available at local retailers" and Officeworks is listed.
Seems like a shitty loophole to get out of discounting it as by google showing this product is available at these local retailers it is shown as being the same product/model.

      • Where on the pricematch policy does it say it must have a matching part number?

        https://www.officeworks.com.au/information/policies/price-be…

        • And google would have to distribute the AU varient for our market, otherwise they'd never have made it.
Might try officeworks tommorrow and push the issue.
Its directly availiable from the company that makes it and sold for the aus market.
Also lists them as a damn retailer for the product on their site page

    • +1

I just successfully price beat at Officeworks instore for this price. 🙂

I'm very impressed with this speaker. Great sound quality.

  • Very tempting!

  • Talked to a Google rep at JB hi-fi yesterday and he said that the hub max will be coming out around late September at a price point of $480 but that was a bit of guessing on his behalf, so just keep that in mind, otherwise great sounding speaker

    • -3

From what I read, the hub max sound is similar to the mini…

    • Hub Max is $349 as listed on Google Store. Your JB guy taking a big cut.

Hub Max sound is nowhere near the quality of the Home Max. Basically different products for different use cases. $299 is an amazing deal for this speaker. Personally I'm waiting for the Hub Max tho. I want that screen.

  • This is a really great speaker. Even at low volume, you could 'feel' the solid sound. Tempted to get a second one for stereo

  • Thanks OP.
Got one for free from Harvey Norman Google phone deal. Loved the speaker. Now buying one more to use one on each floor and sync when needed

  • is this the new low price? is there an end-date to this low price?

  • How does this compare to the Bose SoundLink Mini ii?

    • Not even comparable. But the size of this is also much bigger

  • +1

Alternative is Sonos One which is now Google Assistant enabled.

  • +1

Was all set to get a home hub max next month , already have every other device except this one…tempting.

  • Better than Bose Soundlink Revolve+ ?

  • Any idea if this is better than the JBL Link View?
I have that one at the moment and it’s cheaper than the Max. Sound feels good to me.
Considering a second one :) should I go for this one instead?
