Apart from people with some disabilities that can make drinking a problem, do we need straws?

    • +1

I don't use straws myself, but I have heard that some dentists recommend them for drinking crap like coke to avoid tooth damage from the acids. Although I think if you are drinking enough soft drink for that to happen, you'd have bigger problems to deal with.

yeah not sure why we need straws. Is it a misguided attempt at being environmentally conscious? Isn't no straw option a better one?

    • There is a use case for straws: People who consume while driving. Much safer for them to use a straw rather than take their eyes off the road. However using a metal straw in those cases isn't really an improvement…

Using a metal straw while driving could be a death sentence if you get into a crash and it goes and lodges itself deep within your brain matter.

girls with lipstick use straws so they dont ruin their lipstick

      • Fair enough. So would girls buy these to take with them?

        • probs just chuck in the handbag and rinse at home for those who are bothered

    • Doesn’t this apply to 99% of OzBargain listings?

    • Some smoothies, slushees etc are too thick without a straw.

Following the link I get $8.75 then the coupon brings it down to $7 ??

  • Gosh imagine using this in winter when the skins are all dry, be prepared for the shock

  • Safer on your enamel, supposedly. Might also be good for those with heat/cold sensitivity

  • How on earth do you wash this?

    • You know those things you played with in school called pipe cleaners? Their name is their intended use.

If you click through or look at the small picture in the bargain, you'll see these come with a cleaning brush.

Useless, doesn't come with a bubble tea straw.

    • Most of the fat bubble tea ones are useless too because they don't have an angled pointy edge for piercing the plastic film. I had to bust out the Dremel to cut an angled pointy end. I've since seen some for sale with a pointy end, but the vast majority are still flat.

kid friendly? I would consider these quite dangerous for kids… all it would take is one slip or fall, and this could easily go through a cheek or gum… where a plastic or cardboard straw would bend or snap instead.

    • They're safer than glass ones at least :)

      • Glass straws are an entirely different thing and I don't think kids should be anywhere near them.

If you don't need them coloured, there's a set on Ebay for $5.50 delivered.
