Delivery Plus: One Month Free Trial ($100 Min Spend) @ Woolworths

260

Although increased in price, Woolworths has relaunched their delivery subscription services with the following:

  1. They still allow monthly or annual billing but the crate-to-bench or reusable bags options are now incorporated into the subscription itself.
  2. Most importantly, they’re offering a free trial of either subscription. Should you wish to make use of the free trial only, choose the “Any Day” type (as this offers the best value), then cancel immediately to avoid any chance of being billed, while still getting a full month’s subscription.

How does the free trial work?

Please select the Delivery Plus subscription that you prefer and follow the prompts to enter your payment details. You won't be charged for the first 30 days of your Delivery Plus, and you can cancel at any time before your first billing date.

Can I cancel my Delivery Plus plan at any time?

If you decide Delivery Plus isn't for you, or wish to change your Delivery Plus, you can cancel your auto-renewal at any time via the "My Delivery Plus" section of your account. Remember when there were good Woolies deals here all the time? They are so scungy these days I don't even use the rewards card.

So you've got to spend a minimum of $119 p/a to then have to spend $100 per order to get "free" delivery…

Sounds like a crappy version of Amazon Prime! Bring on the Amazon food expansion…

  • The old anyday 12 month delivery saver was $99 including free single use bags

Then the new delivery plus was temporary $129 plus $1 per trip for thicker bags but most times still getting the $1 refunded by handing one bag back to the driver

Now $169 including bags, so no chance of the $1 being refunded?

    Next years price $x.xx?

    • My annual saver expires in a few days. I previously paid $99 and used it every week with bag refund. I am questioning whether I will renew it at these new rates.

      • I just scrambled onto their website to try and stack another 12 months on my current delivery saver ($99 p.a.) to no avail. Damn.

        • I have used deliveries so much this year (1 a week) and it's been worth it at a cost of around $1.9 per delivery. I have been quite loyal to Woolies this year because of the delivery saver. But putting the price up by $70 is a huge price jump. They might lose my weekly shop altogether.

@imissbeans: I just called them. Gave them some feedback on the price. They said that this product is still and constantly will be a work in progress, so I guess if people stop buying into the delivery subscription, then they'll re-adjust.

        • Yeah, the Delivery Saver has been unavailable to purchase for a few months now while they've developing this new Delivery Plus.

      • While I don’t like the significant jump in price no one can deny the convenience. If I was using it every week I’d renew but try and place my final order while current one is still active but push the delivery date out to the next week if possible (almost like 1 extra week free) then sign up for the new one close to the delivery of the next order as the timer for 12 months starts when you place the order not from the day of the fitst delivery. Plus the 4 weeks free if eligible

To renew or not would depend on where you live traffic/parking, personal time constraints how much your normal spending is.

My relative has the saver and where she’s living it’s 30minutes to drive/park and walk to the supermarket. The delivery saver is so useful as they also have to bring the groceries up the stairs :-)

        • Thanks for the tip. You are right in so many ways. A weekly shop is so time consuming. I tend to buy less in store because I can't load up as much in a trolley. I think I tend to overbuy when online grocery shopping as I find it easy to increase the quantity without second thought.

  • Benefits: Free deliveries (well not really free but cheaper and your preferred times), usually not as many stuffups as pickups (oh we forgot to put all of your fridge/freezer stuff into the trolley sorry about that), not having to deal with people at the shopping centre or in the carpark, not having to search for items that could be in one of multiple aisles.

Negatives: Locks you into Woolies, they regularly have promos for pickup (which almost feels as though you are being penalised for signing up to a year of Woolworths), there have been periods where even ordering a couple of days prior have had limited delivery times.

That said, I prefer Woolies deliveries to Coles. The time saving of not having to shop and getting two free deliveries each week pays for itself in no time if you value/put a price on your time (considering a trip to woolies, depending on the amount of shopping, can take 30 mins to 2 hours each trip).

Wonder if the increase in price was caused by moving from having part Woolies employees and part Toll contractors to fully Toll contractors for their deliveries.

Buying a midweek subscription up to six times a year, with a month+ gap between delivery months, will save me some money on delivery. $75/y.

I'd rather pay a little more to not have to sign and be home, so this deal is good for me.

OP, any idea when this deal will end?

    • OP, any idea when this deal will end?

      No idea, I'm afraid.

Your Delivery Plus Subscription may start with a free trial. This is intended for the account holder to try the Delivery Plus service. We reserve the right to withdraw the free trial at any time. There is a limit of one free trial per account holder.

I'm waiting until my next order to purchase a subscription to get the most out of it.

      • I'm on a paying annual delivery saver that expires in a few days. Can I access this free trial?

        • The terms don't say otherwise. :)

  • Do they charge more per item as well?

    • No, prices are the same as they are in the store that your delivery or pick up order is fulfilled by.

      • I had a free trial a couple years ago, do you think I would be ineligible for this?

        • +1

          Nope, should be fine!

  • I was paying $89 last year for a delivery saver, and this went up by $10 to $99 for this year. So this new version is now $169? Is this right? What's the difference between what they were doing 2 years ago? Is there any added bonuses? So it's doubled in price in 2 years. Yikes! I might consider jumping ship.

    • I see the difference/s….

      OLD: $89
      NEW: $169

      OLD:
Option 1… charged $1 for reusable bags (credited $1 when you return 1 or more bags back to driver, so effectively free)
Option 2… charged $3 for "crate to bench" (no refund credit due to nil bag return)
      NEW:
Nil charge for reusable bags or "crate to bench" (no bag return credit / refund)

I paid exactly the same prices as you for the previous years, and this price hike is extremely difficult to justify. I think it's time to switch to Coles. They're going to have to do better than these "savers".

      Appreciate the post OP.

  • I used to have a delivery saver, and then paid for individual deliveries. I just looked back through my last 20 invoices going back to January. Only two out of 17 orders arrived within the specified times. Maybe they'll be more reliable and far fewer OOS with this new, more expensive subscription?
