    Backlight?

    • +2

No backlight, this is the 2016 model. OP appears to have confused them thanks to Amazon calling them "All-New" all the time.

The 2019 model was $109 on Prime Day at Amazon, for reference.

      • How can you tell the difference?

        • +1

The description and images match that which Amazon used for the previous gen. It makes no mention of any lighting - actually, it is selling the lack of lighting as a feature the same as Amazon did with the previous gen's marketing material. Combine with Tobydeals often selling clearance stock, all signs point to previous gen. I can't find anything that would imply otherwise as Amazon also referred to that Kindle as "All-New".

Not a whole lot of good reviews about this site going around. Not to mention the dodgy looking website.

    • Mate don't understand the negative vote. Have you found it cheaper elsewhere?

Had no problems with this site. Don't. Be a hater

This isn't even the Paperwhite or anything. This is the basic Kindle without a backlight or anything.

Well done you can read the post title. Gold star to you. Correct its not a paperwhite as the title says it is the All New Kindle. It's also not a Porsche as that also isn't in the title if you want to be pendantic

Oooh ouch. My bad, I was out of the loop on Kindle versions (not hard considering how convoluted their naming schemes are). I thought they discontinued non-Paperwhite versions years ago but apparently not.

          Lol you fool 😂

          • @Epiuse: I'd be a fool if I carried on further. I admitted my mistake, get over it.

@Tacooo: Mate you haven't covered yourself in glory. Time to retire from the internet

                  • @nickm: Are you still getting worked up? Jesus (profanity) I admitted I was wrong, you want a personal certificate signed and notarised too or something?

Thanks potplanty. I didn't know this Kindle didn't have the backlight. Not sure why you are getting negged, I found your information useful.
Maybe we all aren't Kindle Pro's like the rest of the perfect people negging you.

If this is the all-new version, it has a front light, rather than a backlight of the paperwhite: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07FQ4DJ83/ref=ods_erd_jr

Sorry I'm new to all this kindle stuff and looking to buy one, whats the difference between front and back light? (Other than one being front lit and the other backlit…) Do they fulfill the same purpose or does it look different?

      • Yep, back and front lights will look different. I expect that the back light would be more even across the screen, although I haven't seen the front light in action.

Also, the paperwhite has a better resolution than the all-new one which means that the text is clearer and reproduction of images (if you like reading comics or books with illustrations or graphs) will be better.

Seems like the lighting is actually not much different these days with the paperwhite having an extra LED so it would be brighter, the paperwhite is also waterproof and has a higher resolution vs the All-new Kindle.

The main difference used to be one having the light (paperwhite), and the other not having it (normal kindle), now there's not much difference.

Only some Paperwhites are waterproof. Mine sure as hell isn't.

    • EDIT: This appears to be the old 2016 model, so no frontlight and not really a deal IMO. Frontlight makes a huge difference in usability.

Paperwhite is also a front light, just has one more LED than basic Kindle. You actually don't want a backlight for an e-reader as that projects the light towards you rather than towards the display, so there's more bleed from a backlight. That's what makes the Kindles better than reading from a tablet in the dark.

  • decent price. any reviews on the product or seller?

  • All new Kindle 8th gen ? …

    • But apparently no back light ;).
