I'll up vote it because of the price, but not surprisingly, it's a TN panel.

    • +14

The resolution is the only good thing about this panel. Everything else is crap.

      • i have a monitor that looks like this but its 27" 144Hz, free sync and 1080P i paid $260

        • Acer KG271A 27" LED FHD FreeSync Gaming Monitor 144HZ 1MS 1920x1080 16:9 HDMI DP ?

Nice price, where did you get it? Can it still be bought at that price?

    • +1

Does it come with a free neck brace so you don't suffer when you're looking at it at the wrong angle?

      • +2

I've got a VA, IPS, and TN… funnily enough i sit in front for each when using them. 4K on a TN whilst you sit in front is quite good. The DPI of a 28" 4K screen, even a TN, makes for very comfortable use.

    • +1

To be fair alot of people like TN because of the lower latency.

      • +1

These are the same people that have never used VA or IPS.

    • +2

I'll up vote for the comprehensive description.

    • Is IPS really a huge advantage for a desktop monitor? Viewing angles don't really matter when you're sitting dead in front of it

      • I think it used to matter when the angle was so bad that the edges of the screen had different dim already.
These days all monitors are bloody damn good, I wouldn't worry about it

        • +3

No, it's also a colour reproduction thing. IPS produces much more vivid and true-to-life colours. TN is washed out to hell and blacks are almost non-existent while VA is slightly better.

      • +1

Colours are way better. I wouldn't edit photos on TN's personally.

        • Depends on the panel. I own a 6 year old laptop and the panel on that is so inaccurate that it can look REALLY off if you edit on it then transfer to another computer. I also have 10 year old TN Samsung P2370HD panels that are good if not totally colour accurate and a bit too bright - I'm quite happy to do most of my editing on them.

  • +1

WOW! what a price! Does anyone own one of these a can vouch?

    • +1

I have a CB280HK which I think is the same except the HDMI port isn't 2.0 (I use DisplayPort so still get 4K@60fps). Paid ~$500 in 2015.
Works fine, occasionally doesn't wake up from sleep without being power-cycled. I have it mounted on an arm so viewing angle has never been an issue. Side-by-side view is handy if you're working on two machines at the same time, especially if one is a console.

      • Thanks for sharing.
A question about getting 4K on a mac, we need DP connection, right?

        • I'm not a Mac person so can't say for sure. If it helps: DP can output 4K@60Hz, HDMI 2.0+ can also do 4K@60Hz, HDMI before 2.0 can only do 4K@30Hz.

    • +1

Yeah I have one I got from Officeworks. Im a software developer and love the screen real-estate. Tempted to get a second at that price. Viewing angles are good, but not as good as an IPS display, but nowhere near as dire as TN once was.
Can't comment on colour accuracy as I don't use it for anything that matters.

  • +1

Not bad for the price. But serious doubt about the quality and long term reliability.

    • +1

The Samsung 28" is not much more on special and i've had one going strong for years.

  • -4

For about the same price, I'm going to gamble 3 x Lenovo 21.5" and see how they go. Less pixels over all, but maybe that's a good thing because the GPU can handle it better.

  • +3

We have 20+ of these in our office, all being used in pairs. Never a single issue with any of them. Sure they're probably not for gaming, but great for general office work. I use one for drafting/modelling and the other is split into 4x 1080 displays using Display Fusion. At this price I'm tempted to ask the boss to get more! We paid more than double!

    • +2

Do you get tired eyes or anything looking at two massive screens all day?

      • Not at all, I wish I had 2 more! :)

  • Thanks! Bought 2!

    • you got the last 2

      • Still available, if they don't ship to you it looks OOS.

      • Just got another 6 for the office. Seems to be plenty left.

      • i am pretty sure the ad was still up after my purchase. also i did a pickup from carlingford and they did have more in stock in the back.

  • +6

I almost bought one, then I realised I'm happy with my current monitor :)
    Great price though!!

    • +1

Buy first, check if you are happy later. That is the ozbargain spirit!

      • exactly.. now I am scratching me head,, why I need 4 monitors??.. may be one for each room..

  • Tempted to spend a little more and get the Samsung U28D590D.

    Or should I wait until there’s a 32” deal?

    Or just get this one?

    • depends what you're doing on it really. i think anything over 27" is too big to play games on if your on PC at least. 24-27 is the sweet spot

      • I find pc games are best enjoyed on my oled 65 actually.

    • +1

Picture quality on the Samsung is a little better, but it has really annoying high-pitched whine and the control stick thing used to access the settings is dumb.
I'd say hang onto your money; both options are pretty old, new stuff is better.

  • 60Hz so wouldn't recommend for serious gaming.

    • +2

If you're gaming at above 60hz 4k I don't think a budget monitor would be on the cards…

    • Sure. 4k must be 120hz.

    • +1

It would have to be super serious gaming. The difference from 60hz to higher (i went from 60 to 144) is more a feel improvement than anything. In the FPS games i play i was always up around the top even on 60hz. I'd say a stable internet connection and playing style are far bigger factors.

  • Thanks OP, buy 1 for my newly build PC

  • Occasionally the AOC U2790VQ comes down to $300 on ebay - which has a 4k IPS panel and is very good for the price IMO. Not comparable on price but I don't like TN panels.

  • Deal doneskis

  • Anyone still waiting for them to send it?

    • Yes, I asked them, they said due to a high volume of orders for this sale blah blah… they'll try to dispatch asap blah blah..I should've said received them yesterday, but they haven't even dispatch it… what a joke!

      • You'd think a big electronics business would send stuff out quickly. I'm still waiting too.

  • Aust post are useless bastards.

They want me to pick it up from the distribution centre which is about 10km away.

Bing Lee should have just had shop pickup since I'm like 2km away from them.

    • Agreed, I stayed at home the whole day expecting them to deliver to my door, but they just threw a notice letter to my mailbox…

  • received via Aus Post today.

    • Lucky you. Do you like it?

      • +1

very good for the price and never going back to 1080.
pretty heavy monitor with a thick border.
colours look over-saturated on Windows 10 but will try to calibrate it tomorrow.

        • Can you get 4k 60fps over HDMI? Or is it display port only?

  • Got mine today. Sadly faulty - green flickering lines/artifacts on a big part of the screen… tried on different devices with different cables, and adjust OSD settings to no avail. Let's see what the return process is like!

  • This monitor is a flat out amazing buy for the money.

I do find the typical acer crappy onscreen and the build is kind of meh but its $250!

    2560 x 1440 is a good compromise. I find 4k too small.

Also running FHD on hdmi brings up a border and I dont know how to make it fit the screen.

    • Also running FHD on hdmi brings up a border and I dont know how to make it fit the screen.

This could be caused by a setting in your graphics card software but just to be sure it's not, bring up the settings menu on the monitor and make sure "Wide Mode" is not set to 1:1.

  • +1

Got mine today and it has a cluster of dead pixels. Looks like maybe 20-30 pixels due to the resolution. Typical Acer quality. Guess I'll constact Bing Lee.

    • Did you manage to get a replacement?

      • Nah they didn't have any stock so had to get a refund. It was easy to return, all pre-paid just had to drop it off. Honestly I wasn't that impressed with the monitor. I mean it's 4k for $239 which you can't go wrong with but the colours were extremely bad and FreeSync was limited to display port. Also the viewing angles were really bad but that's to be expected with TN (seems worse for this monitor though). I'd rather pay a bit more for an IPS. How did yours go?
