Nice find, but A8G is a joke. 2019 Model but no eARC unlike the LG C9

    • +12

Sony OLED TVs are a joke in general. They're never as good as the LGs yet always more expensive. I don't see how Sony can continue with them. Just like their phones.

    • +1

Thanks, so the general consensus is to get the LG OLED TV instead of Sony?

      • Sony top end A9F/A9G are awesome, but grossly overpriced. The A8 range is to be honest a bit meh and you are better off with C8/C9.

I did get a A8F but only because they had the $2999 special.

        • A9F is awesome, but this year LG C9 and Panasonic GZ2000 are better almost all category compared to this year Sony A9G according to HDTVTest 2019 shootout (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vj_oR91s1BU).

I guess Sony sit on their laurel and didn't improve anything much on their A9G, hence only win for their Motion Handling performance.
Not to mention Sony unjustified exorbitant price as well. I know Panasonic GZ2000 is also expensive, but at least they buy Open Cell panel from LG and customize it themselves (use better heatsink design, etc)

      • For this year model, big YES. Not to mention if you factor in the price as well…

  • +1

Anyone know the difference between this Sony X70G 49" for $799 and the Sony X70F 49" for $649 at Amazon?

$150 is a decent difference in price.

I'm googling, and will update, but knowledgable folks are welcome to comment. Thanks!

    • +4

My tv end in c and pr3vious model is b, i’d Assume f is last year and g is later so maybe this year. Not sure about difference though

      • +2

        Is this Algebra?

        Not sure about difference though

        That was anti-climactic..

      • +2

Looks like the new X70G model uses more power - 416 kWh/Year vs 388 kWh/Year, has lost the headphone output and is only Motionflow XR 100 vs Motionflow XR 200 on the previous model.

New model looks worse vs the previous one, at least according to a comparison of the specs on the Sony website.

        • +1

The new X70G model appears to have the TRILUMINOS display which has more vivid colours.

According to Sony: "See vivid real world colours all around you. A TRILUMINOS Display maps from a wider palette, faithfully reproducing every shade and hue in the umbrellas."

Is this worth the extra $?

Can’t believe that Sony is so loyal to us ozbargainers, even says “don’t forget Cashrewards”

Nothing beats the warm and fuzzies that ozb members get visting harvey norman website.

      • What does it mean "Ensure last click" ?

  • +16

Good prices (for these models) but none of them are actually good value.

  • Anyone know if the Sony Store allows split payment between two amex cards?

    • +2

save your money, buy the LG

      • Only eyeing the $799 though. It's for a second bedroom.

    • +1

      No

  • +1

Quick, check Rtings.com to see if picture quality upgrades/downgrades are worth it

  • +7

Not many stores in australia selling them yet so cant compare however looking at the overseas retailers like the ones from Malaysia, the KD49X7000G selling at around $700ish so the $799 price should really be the average retail price so not that much of a bargain since no one will sell at the overpriced rrp anyway.

  • Would a second hand 42" Sony TV KDL-42W670A for ≈$300 be better value than the 49" X70G 4K for $621 (after discounts)?

I'm not too fussed on TVs in general, but can be convinced. The used TV belongs to a friend.

    • +2

Depends on what you want it for. If it's only for FTA TV and you sit fairly close the old Sony will be OK. If you ever plan on connecting anything else to it (console, media player, chromecast etc) then go for the newer model that's 4K and has better connection options. Not sure how picture quality compares but both are fairly low-end so I'm guessing it'll be similar

Buy sony if u wanna it to be smarter 😌 samsung sucks with bixby Lg I dont know 🤣

  • +10

Steer away from Sony. I'm in a dispute with them for warranty, they are denying me my rights for a replacement even when I sent them the fine print regards to warranty from ACCC and their website.

Also all the correspondence is from the Philippines so good luck getting any logical response from them

    • +3

Yeah, I had huge problems getting them to respect Australian Consumer Law in the past.

Your local fair trading or the small claims court may be your best shot if they keep denying your rights. Good luck!

      • +1

FWIW I used to work retail, and Sony was repeatedly one of our best supported brands.. That might have turned around in the last couple of years, though.

    • +4

I've had 3 Sony TV's in 15 years with no problems but thanks for the anecdote.

      • +1

Not a TV, it's another item.

Just pointing out that Sony will try anything to deny a claim.

The horror stories you read on the internet are true about Sony denying warranties

        • +1

Do you believe everything you read on the internet?

        • That's crap too. My Sony Xperia z2 had a loose usb/charging port, so I contacted warranty support. They gave me an address to send it to (only catch was I had to pay for shipping it there) and a month later I received my phone back in good working order.

    • +1

I guess I should count myself lucky then. I had a great experience with Sony. They replaced my TV even though it was out of warranty for 2 years.

    • +1

What you trying to do? Try to fix your sony wega trinitron TV which is 10 years old ?
I never had issues with Sony warranty within their warranty period.

      • Similar experience… they replaced the panel free of cost and the tv was 3 years old. Took sometime to figure out the stock but no dramas with their support.

    • I had opposite experience. I had Sony honour a warranty that had lapsed by 2 months. My 60 inch tv was since discontinued so they replaced it for a newer 65 inch model. I also got them to reset the warranty on the replacement tv, which they did. My contact was also in the Philippines.

    Don't seem like good prices.

  • @TA, any chance of PS4 deals?

    • +2

And the best part of this TV is that it's LG panel. $1999 I would jump on this deal. LG for Xmas now.

  • Out of curiosity, what does the last bit of the post mean? “Code TA-SONYTV is exclusive to Cashrewards, and will not commission to any other publisher.”

    • +1

Your cashback won't be approved if you buy a TV using this code via Shopback.

      • Ah ok I see. Thanks 👌

  • Why couldn’t they do a discount on the A9G.

  • +2

Why is this getting so many upvotes despite the average comments?

    • +4

      Take a wild guess.

But yeah, there's nothing special about these prices. Especially since it's a special 12hr sale.

It's only a big discount because of Sony's ridiculously inflated RRP.

    • Because its ozbargain: upvote first, ask questions later

      • +2

Arsebargain* upvote first, then keep scrolling

  • I received an "exclusive" code for this promotion from Sony via email.

I guess it wasn't really that exclusive since there's a generic code.

Either way here's the code for anyone that wants it, hopefully it will make someone happy:
    NIGHTOWL-L5BR-HGGV-RR6V-DHRQ4

    • +3

The coupon in TA's deal is exclusive if you want the cashback. Otherwise you can use your code and get no cashback ;)

Good price for the 49x70g but unlike higher models it's not android so can't run Kayo.

  • Last month I saw 55 A9G for $2499 in JB Hifi, I think that's a good price.

  • +1

The EBGames code about 2 months ago prices the 65" A9F Master series for $3899

    Bring on a A9G deal..

  • Sony TVs are becoming more and more irreverent day by day…

At least not at their price point.

Hmm, based on these reduced prices they're offering, think my mate at good guys may be right.
