  • I bought one of these a month or two ago and it's very nice

Me: What do you think of this?
Significant Other (SO): No you don't need that, you already have a 27 inch screen
Me: But you said the other day that this would be good
SO: Do you have any USB-C computers?
Me: It has HDMI and DP, it will work with my computers
    SO: [Shakes head]
Me: It's normally $1889!… [walks off]
SO: [yelling] Bring back your wallet!

Episode one was a cracker. I can't wait to see episode two - "Sean spends the night in A&E"

What is the condition generally on dell refurbished monitors?

  • +1

Anyone know what the refurbished standard is? Dead pixels or anything?

    • Mine seemed new

    • Mine also looked brand new, zero dead/bright pixels, factory calibration report.

  • Silly question - How do I actually buy it? Does cashback work? Never bought from Dell Outlet before.

    • 1) Contact the live chat on the website during their working hours and they will email you a quote. Then you phone or live chat back to action the quote.
      2) I doubt it.

does anyone use this for productivity purposes? (writing, reading, etc). I've got a 32" 4k screen I use now, wondering how much difference the curved approach will make - more of a pain or a benefit?

    • +1

Definitely useful as a monitor. It feels like you are working on a normal 27 inches monitor. The curve isn't too much to cause distraction.

      Advantages:

You don't need to full size each window. Arrange multiple on each part and multitask easily.

Scaling of apps works nicely on linux/windows unlike in a 50 inches 4k tv

      Disadvantages

Its heavy,(front heavy) you need a proper support. I won't trust it to sit directly on my desk.

    • Absolutely

I bought mine mainly for gaming but i cant believe how much better it is for productivity. For uni I can have my journal articles on the left, my doc in the middle and AS/NZ standards on the right for example or I'll have ABC24 playing.

At work for excel, I deal with asset mgmt plans and financial reports, so the ultra wide is really handy

As a PM for minor work, I use my own one page PM system, so I can see six pages from one sheet. But this is all from home.

I am almost considering forking one out for work

      • how do you find it for gaming?

    • You need to keep in mind this is not a 4K monitor. This monitor has 1440 vertical resolution vs 2160 for 4K monitor. So the text might not look clear and crisp like 4K monitors.
The advantage is if you are productivity oriented then you will have tons of productive screen size to work on multiple windows.

    • That's how I use it. Two side by side windows look perfect to me. Almost the same as with dual monitor set up but cleaner with a single USB-C from MBP.
