[Windows] Send up to 1TB Online for Free @ FileWhopper

130

Absolutely FREE, test the beta version of a new service that lets you send really huge files: FileWhopper

The main benefits of transferring large files with FileWhopper Beta:

  • Send up to 3 files or folders of up to 1TB each for FREE in beta;
  • Add additional services to your transfers, like more downloads or more days of storage, for FREE;
  • There are no hidden additional fees;
  • Track the progress of all active uploads and your file recipient’s downloads from your account;
  • Data transfer resumes if your PC reboots automatically, with minimum possible data loss: the integrity of transmitted data is ensured;
  • Totally secure service thanks to files being encrypted for transfer;
  • The service supports simultaneous upload and download;
  • No installation is required. A desktop app helps speed up the upload/download of your huge files, then automatically deletes itself.

Note: More transfers will be available when the full version is released with no need to buy a monthly storage plan, just pay a one-time fee based on file size.
Please do not worry, your free transfers will not be lost after the full version is released and they will continue to be free.

    I’ll stick to rsync over ssh, thanks. It’s free, irrespective of file size.

        At the same time as you comment someone neg’d me. Got some sock puppets?

  • what are u gonna do with our data

      All files and folders are encrypted before being transmitted to ensure secure transfer. A password is automatically generated through the FileWhopper app on the server when the upload is started. The password may be changed by the file owner before its is saved. The new password must be 6 to 64 characters in length.
      This password is required for the recipient to start the download, so it must be sent to the recipient along with the download link.
      The password is only known to the file owner and whoever they share it with. FileWhopper does not have access to the password and therefore is unable to access the files being transmitted.

      • +2

        If the password is generated “on the server” then you have access to the password too, and accordingly the data.

        • The encryption key (password) is automatically generated on the server, but can be changed by the user before it is saved. The user has to send the download link and the key (password) to the recipient, as FileWhopper does not have access to the encryption key. The encryption key cannot be changed or recovered after it has been saved, so you need to make sure you don’t lose it.

            @HannaWelch: There is absolutely zero reason for you to generate a zero-knowledge password on the server, unless you want to keep your options open on spying. This alone should give people pause.

            • @kipps: The password may be changed by the file owner before the upload is started.

              @kipps: I've just checked the password issue with our tech team and it seems I really gave you a confusing information. The password is automatically generated in FileWhopper Upload App (it can be changed by the user manually as well) and its hash sum is being sent to our server. Then the FileWhopper Download App just checks this hash to figure out is the password matches. This way we do not obtain the user passwords.
              Thanks for your understanding!

      They will create the next Fappening.

      • FileWhopper is a legit company. This company has very strict procedures in place and complies with all legal requirements to protect your data.

        • That's what the other company said and then the Fappening occurred.

    A couple of things that I picked up:

    (1) Tried uploading the folder with largest file of 22GB in the folder. It kept throwing an error after about 10 - 15 mins that folder has been modified etc while there is no application using any of the files in the folder.

    (2) The app says File Status as "Download in progress" when it should actually be "Upload in progress"

    (3) If the app showed the progress with connection speed / upload speed or how many MBs uploaded etc…that would be great.

    (4) It seems that there is no option to cancel the upload process or manually delete the files once the upload has started?

    Edit: Re: point#1 above, I think the issue might be because I was running low on my disk space. It seems to be working fine when I freed up some space.

      Thank you so much for this detailed comment! We wish to have more users like you are! This way we would definitely fix all bugs and shortcomings in the FileWhopper beta version much quicker.

  • I'm a Cheesy Cheeseburger fan myself only $2.

    XD

  • I'm accessing the portal on my phone and see no installation file to download, I suspect it is a portable executable file thus no need to install anything?

    • okay, apparently once you select the file and register yourself, it will then ask you to download the client application. Unfortunately, you will then need to select the file to upload again (a bit redundant I think); ideally on the front page, it gives option for user if they are planning to upload more than x GB, to download the application and select the file afterwards from their desktop

    • Please use your PC to transfer large files.
      Note that FileWhopper doesn't support file uploads/downloads on Mac/Linux computers at the moment
      Please make sure your recipients use a Windows computer to download the file. We're working on getting this fixed soon!

  • The instructions are not clear.
    I did a test.
    I chose one of my files. Then it asks me to download something, which I did.
    Now what do I do next?

    • FileWhopper app is a quick tool that will facilitate your big file upload.
      1) After launching the app you need to choose a password and save it.
      Important: Save your password, as it can’t be recovered and is absolutely required for your recipient to start the download.
      2) Then you need to choose and upload the file you submitted for a quote.
      Note: The upload might take some time, especially if your file is very big.
      3) You can click a button to pause your upload, minimize the app to keep uploading in the background, and track progress in your online account.
      * Share the link and password with recipient(s) while your upload is still in progress. One download is included by default, unless you order additional downloads.
      * Your 14 days of storage count from the moment the upload starts. After that, your file is deleted unless additional days of storage have been ordered.
      6) Once you close the app, it will be automatically deleted from your computer.
      Please: double check that you saved your file password. The download link will also be available in your personal account.

      Please do not worry, your free transfers will not be lost after the full version is released and they will continue to be free.

      • That is right! Thank you sween64
        All free transfers will be free forever, there are no hidden fees.
        Note: your file/folder transfer includes only one download and up to 14 days of storage. If you need more you should add additional services to your order (also for free).
